  1. This is a difficult time, I am sure. Paying COBRA premiums is ideal, but I don't know anyone who can afford that. Check with the medicaid office again. You DID make too much money when you were employed. I am pretty sure your unemployment will help qualify you. It depends on how many previous months that are factored in. If you can get qualified for medicaid, is there a surgeon in your area that accepts it? Don't give up. Even if you have to postpone the surgery until you are insured again, you can make this happen. Use this time to learn everything you can about the surgery and prepare yourself mentally and physically for it. Start working out, if you don't already. It will help you feel better. Start logging your food intake on fitday.com or dailyplate.com so you can have an idea of what you are consuming each day. If you can afford it, you may even want to join Weight Watchers if you have never followed a program before. Many insurance companies require a diet history and this may help you get it covered with any new policy in the future. Good Luck and don't forget to check with the medicaid office again. You may not want to mention that you want this surgery.
  2. I am so sorry to hear about your trouble, but glad to hear you were able to get it corrected. Congratulations on getting back on track.
  3. It sounds like you are both doing great. It seems that most people don't lose much until after they begin getting fills, so you are both ahead of the game. I have lost 67 lbs so far and have rarely felt hungry, so I LOVE my band! Ollie, in regards to fills, everyone is different. My friend required 4ccs each fill she got, but each of my fills were only 1cc, because my stomach seems to be sensitive to being "messed" with. The best advise I can give is that once you start getting fills, is to be aware of the amount of restriction you have. DO NOT stay too tight if you think you are overfilled. As far as I know, being too loose won't cause damage to you, but if you are overly tight it can cause problems. Good Luck!
  4. Mine pushes and finds the port. They have filled it with no problems both times.
  5. After you create the ticker, copy the forum code. It is the first set of codes at the bottom of the screen, I think. Then paste this in your edit signature portion of your profile.
  6. I keep some Campbell's soup at hand in the pantry. SF jello pudding was my lifesaver after surgery. It was satisfying and very tasty. I used my food processor to make chicken and tuna salad. Also, buy some of the 4 oz plastic containers. They are wonderful for serving and putting in the refrigerator a 1/2 c serving of everything. Good Luck
  7. I am saying a little prayer right now. Good luck and let us know what the doctor says.
  8. I am 6 months post op. My port area is still tender. Everyone is different. I don't need a fill every 6 weeks, I have only had 2. Some people go up to and even a little over the capacity of their band. Just because he tells you most people can only tolerate 10cc does NOT mean he shouldn't give you another fill if you need it. I never pbd, even if I ate a little more than I should have, until after having my hysterectomy which caused my band to be a little too tight. Please encourage your surgeon to work with you if you feel you need another fill. Oh, and be THANKFUL that you don't get sick when you overeat. It doesn't feel very good.
  9. I also use fitday.com. If this is something you are going to eat often, then I suggest looking up each of the things you make it out of and calculate how much it has in all. Create this under custom foods. I have done that for my Starbucks mocha, the quiche I cook, and any other foods that I eat on a regular basis. For example, for my quiche I added up all the ingredients for the whole pan: 8 eggs, 1/4c onions, 4 oz cheese, 8 oz of ham, 1/2 c flour and 1 c milk. It adds up to a lot of calories, but then I divide it by 8 because I cut it into 8 pieces and each piece has 240 calories.
  10. A fill will help if portion size or staying satisfied for less than 3-4 hours is the problem. Unfortunately, if the problem is poor food choices, it won't. If you haven't had a fill at all, but are satisfied with the correct portion size, discuss that with your surgeon's staff. They may tell you that a fill isn't needed or give you a small fill. Do you journal your food intake? It may give you an idea why you aren't losing weight this week. I like to use fitday.com and many people use dailyplate.com. It makes it easy.
  11. I am sorry you had a painful experience. Maybe next time you can request the "expert" before anyone else touches you.:wink2:
  12. Steph, please call and go for an unfill ASAP. You sound like you are really uncomfortable. Somtimes just taking out a small amount makes a huge difference. Restriction should help you feel full with a cup of food or less and keep you full for around 4 hours or so. It should not make you sick. It is possible to have restriction with small fills. I had restriction just from having my band put in and I have only had 2 fills, each one only 1cc. My friend has the same band and has 7ccs. Everyone is different.
  13. That sounds like it is extremely low in calories and could be the reason you are experiencing the weakness. I think you should call your surgeon and explain that you are experiencing weakness that is interfering with your ability to exercise. Maybe he/she will add an extra shake. It sounds like you probably need it.
  14. Surgeons are different on what they require and sometime have different requirements depending on the needs of the patient. It seems that most people are on some type of preop diet, but my surgeon did not require anything other than liquids only after 6pm the day before and nothing after 10:30pm. Just make sure that you do what your surgeon requires from you, and you should be fine.
  15. Tabithan started a thread that may be really helpful. It is for people who are struggling so they can support each other and hold each other accountable. If may help you. She is a very positive and supportive person. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f255/i-have-failed-my-band-support-group-81953/
  16. I am glad that you are starting to heal. It sounds like your stomach is sensitive to being disturbed and was swelling. Mine is like that. I had restriction just from having the band put in place, so I lost 25 pounds before I ever had a fill and each fill I get is only 1cc. Also, I just had a hysterectomy. They didn't really get anywhere near my band, but just disturbing my abdominal area caused swelling and my band became tighter. Since you are having this kind of response from your band, please make sure you start your fills off slowly. It is real easy to get too tight and you already know what happens when that occurs. Also, have they given an alternate way for you to take your heart meds? Can it be broken, or is it available in a liquid? I would hate for this to reoccur. Oh, and sometimes drinking something warm will open your stoma a little more. Try drinking some warm tea or coffee if your surgeon allows.
  17. The easiest way to get the required protein in, is the New Whey protein bullets 42g. It is only 3 oz and each bullet has 42g of protein. The liquid is kind of thick, but two sips is all it takes to drink 1 oz. They have a tart taste, my husband says it reminds him of a sweet tart. I bought the tropical punch flavor. If you decide to buy them, they are at GNC, but be sure to buy the 42g ones, because they have some that are 26g or something like that.
  18. The 4 oz containers are the best (1/2 c). I would put my food in there so I knew I had exactly the correct amount. It is easiest to immediately put your food in it and then put it in the refrigerator.
  19. The posts aren't correct for quite a few. Someone posted an update using an old list so I corrected entries for: bandana, bonnielass, wowox7, and tabithan. I see that bunky and loveislovely already reposted to correct theirs. Please be careful and make sure you are using the most recent post when you update. Everyone please check your stats to make sure they are correct. 20. If it is actually throwing up, you will have stomach acid mixed with it and it will be probably at least an hour after you eat. If it is the food mixed with saliva, you are just pbing. Not pleasant either, but better than throwing up. I don't think it is good to pb a lot. I don't actually know if it will harm your band. You should call your surgeon's office and ask them. You may need a very small unfill if it continues.
  21. I am glad you finally have restriction, unfortunately, you sound way too tight. Please see about getting a slight unfill before you begin to eat slider foods, or worse, start to pb more and swell. As for the tracker, click on mine and it should take you to the website. Choose your stuff and create your ticker. At the end it will give you some codes. Copy the first one (i think) at the bottom for forums. Then go to the edit signature part of your profile and paste it in the section where you can type stuff. Hit preview signature and it should show up at the top. If it is correct, then save it. Hopefully this helps.
  22. You're welcome. For start weight they mean at the beginning of this challenge, so we will use 165. 23. How does your band feel? Do you have restriction at all, or maybe even too tight?
  24. Give all of your stats and if you can't post it on the list, someone will add you.
