Who knows about your surgery?
If you are embarrassed, you may not want to tell many people, especially at first. Me? I didn't care who knew. I figured it was easier to tell people myself, than to have them find out later from someone else, because you KNOW people will talk. If you are worried about people watching you for weight loss, explain that this is a way to slowly lose weight, but it should make it easier to KEEP it off. That way, they don't expect you to lose weight too fast.

Honest Answers Needed on Restriction
To answer your question: restriction for me, is being satisfied (full, really) with about 1/3 or less of what I ate pre-banding. Example: we went to Cracker Barrel and I ate 1 biscuit, an egg, and maybe 1/4 c of mashed potatoes. I promise before being banded I ate a minimum of 3 of those yummy biscuits before my meal even arrived. Then I would eat most of my meal. Last night we went to I HOP and I had 1 pancake and half of a 2 egg and cheese omelet. I used to order the 3 eggs, 3 pancake meal with a side of toast and finish it. I take smaller bites, but not really tiny ones, and I chew well before swallowing. This means I don't really like people to talk while I am eating, because then I tend to swallow to answer them before I am really finished chewing. I eat most foods that I love, including pizza. I even eat ice cream when I feel like it, which is around once a week. I was banded a year ago and I have lost 80lbs. I have only had two fills and each one was only 1cc. It sounds like when you got your third fill you became too tight. Please consider going to have a little taken out if you aren't able to eat healthy foods without getting sick.

Let's Talk Movie Review
I just found this thread and I love watching movies, so... Gloucester, have you seen Hangover yet? I laughed so hard. If you are offended by nudity, don't watch the credits. 4/5 I have seen HP twice, including at midnight opening night. It is really good and quite entertaining, especially for those who don't read the books, but it leaves a LOT out. 4.5/5 Proposal, predictable, but dangit, Ryan Reynalds is so cute in it, and much applause to Sandra Bullock for her banging bod in her 40s. 3.5/5 Up- made me cry, so I felt really dumb. 4.5/5

You are so right, mich. I did forget it is supposed to be a 3 year journey. That really does put things into perspective! Thanks! It makes us realize we are doing a great job so far.

do you need an unfill for surgery?
I had a hysterectomy in December and I asked my gyn and she called my band surgeon. Neither thought I needed and unfill (I only had 2ccs), so I didn't get one. I wish I wouldn't have listened. I became too tight and didn't want to get the unfill after, because I had 4 new incisions and didn't want to get poked on. If I have any further surgeries, ANYWHERE on my torso, I will definitely get unfilled.

I wish I had the ability to correct other peoples spelling on here
As an elementary teacher, I often have the urge to correct spelling. I do, however, realize that being able to spell isn't a sign of intelligence. Just yesterday I received an email from my principal with a typo in it. It happens. Also, some people just don't spell well at all. My husband is dyslexic and can't spell, but he is a very intelligent person. If he tried to post on here, it would probably make us break out into hives. I can't count the number of calls I get from him asking me how to spell words.

Where was mom between 1994-2009?
Hiding? Let me tell you about hiding. I don't have an accurate before picture because of hiding. I had ONE but only had one copy on a disc. The disc is now messed up, so I don't have one at all. I have a pic that is 6 weeks post op that is about 25lbs down. It is so sad that I have no pics of me and my children because I was so embarrassed and didn't want to face what I looked like.:frown:

Is this normal
It doesn't always take a lot or many fills to get restriction. I have only had 2 fills, and each one was only 1cc. I understand you want restriction, but if you are too tight you won't be able to eat proper foods. This can lead to eating unhealthy slider foods and, believe it or not, you may begin to gain. If you aren't able to eat properly in the next few days, please get some taken out.:frown:
-
Is this normal
I am tighter normally in the morning. If liquids are getting stuck, it sounds like you are too tight. If this continues, please try to get some of the fill taken out. In the mean time, try drinking warm liquids and see if that helps.

I can't eat!!!
It could be many reasons you are getting stuck. The easiest thing to do is to get a little more Fluid out. If you were fine for two weeks, then began to be too tight again, maybe stress or your cycle caused you to become tight. Also, it is possible that the fill you had two weeks prior "kicked in" and it was just too much. My stomach is extremely sensitive to fills and any type of irritation. I had restriction just from having my band placed and have only had two small fills this whole year. I would really suggest getting a small amount taken out and see how it goes. Then, when you start getting fills again, just get .5cc or 1cc put in at a time. You can't continue like you are now. You will eventually start eating slider foods, which will likely cause you to gain weight and aren't good for you. Good Luck!

I'm here. Not losing weight, but not gaining either. I am STILL not exercising. I just feel lazy. I am happy with my loss and just hope to keep going, albeit, slowly this next year. 80lbs isn't too bad.

What kind of bowel prep have y'all had to do?
I didn't have to do anything!!! Jeez, you won't have to go for days after getting cleaned out from all of that!

What to do about dumping?
It is my understanding that dumping occurs with bypass patients due normally to sugars entering the small intestine. Banded patients don't experience "dumping". Something is, however, causing you discomfort. I suggest calling your surgeon's office. It is possible that changing your protein drink may help. They should be able to help give you some answers.

It sounds like you stomach is sensitive to fills, like mine is. Try to come to an agreement with them regarding the price. Either get them to reduce what you pay, or let you come in during the 4 weeks after the fill/unfill without paying more until it is correct (better alternative). You will probably need small fills from now on to make sure it doesn't happen again. And yes, sometimes it only takes a small unfill to help, but I would probably want at least 1cc taken out, since you have been tight for a long time. Take it easy, and at the end of a week, see if you are able to eat hard protein like chicken or ground beef again. If you can't, get another cc out. Please let me know how it goes today.

My 1st post and I need your advise
The incompetency of his staff needs to be brought to his attention. He might lose your business because of this. His staff is who is going to schedule your appointments and answer your calls. You may want to think about that before continuing. If you are really secure in his ability, and are willing to overlook the incompetent staff, then proceed quickly and don't look back.

Concerns!
Of course I am worried about the future of my band, but I didn't have the surgery thinking about taking it out. It is doing its job for me now. I have lost 81lbs in less than a year so far and I don't ever want to put it back on again. If something happens, and of course it can, just look at the complications thread for proof, I plan on doing whatever I need to do to make sure I don't gain it back. I dont' know whether or not insurance will cover removal if it doesn't cover the initial surgery. I would hope that if it were affecting your health, it would cover removal, but I am not sure.

I am so sorry that you are going through this, and I know it must get very expensive. I would say call the surgeon's office for an appointment. When you go in, have them only take out 1cc, with the understanding that you expect them to see you in a week (without paying again) to either take a little more out or put a tiny amount (.5ccs) back in to try to get it right. They can see your history of getting filled and unfilled and if you aren't satisfied and successful, you won't recommend them to anyone. It is in their best interest to have this band work for you. And in my opinion, it is their fault it isn't working, because they are taking out and putting in too much at a time. It won't hurt to give this a try, and getting some out will only help. Even if you can eat more, at least it will be more of something that is healthy instead of soft "junk food".

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through, joiful. I have only had 2 small fills, and may go get a very small amount taken out if my GERD doesn't continue to improve over the next few days. If all you can keep down is icecream, you really do need an unfill. After the swelling goes down, they should start refilling you slowly. How many are they taking out and putting in each time?

lap band and asthma
My asthma has improved greatly. Before being banded and losing some weight, I was using my inhaler 4-5 times per week. Now, I may use it twice a month.

Me?, well thank you. The problem is, I have lost almost nothing in the past two months, so I am thinking about a fill. I am trying to consume more water since I am almost finished with teaching summer school and I am hoping it will help me start losing again. If you click on my ticker my weight loss since probably January isn't good at all. BUT...if I would EXERCISE, I would lose weight...dangit, so it is all my fault!

I am sorry to hear about the problems. His dr has every right to be angry. What will it take to get him rescheduled and when do they plan on doing it?
