    First Fill

The fill needle? Don't look at it when you go. I had my first fill on Aug. 20th and it was completely painless. The only time I hear of people experiencing pain, is when the person doing the fill can't find the port. Many people use a numbing agent before sticking you, but my PA didn't and it still was painless. Don't worry, and look at the ceiling, not the needle.:crying:

    find Dr. closer to home

Where in AR are you and where are you traveling to? Honestly, if they are hitting your port easily with each fill, I would probably stay where I was. I know gas is expensive, but so is the band inside you. Also, I am a BIG baby about pain, and I would want to go where I KNOW they can take care of me.
  6. Yes, you will need some type of protein drinks, soup (clear broth and then creamy for full liquid stage), and sf jello to start. Also for protein consumption, I found the New Whey bullets (42g) to be easy to get down. Each one is only 3 oz. You can drink it by itself (kinda thick, tart taste, but not bad), or I have heard of people mixing it with sf tropical punch. GOOD LUCK!

  8. You need to do this in the "edit signature" portion of your profile information. If you go to links at the top of your screen you will see the edit signature under user control. Then you should be able to click on my ticker and it will take you to the website. You can make a ticker there. Then, I think you have to copy the code at the bottom that is for forums and paste it into the edit signature box. DO NOT try to paste it at the bottom where it says pics and stuff. I could NEVER get that to work for the ticker. The rest of the information (like my band dates and stuff) I just typed into the edit signature box. Hit the preview signature button and see if it looks correct before saving. Try this and see if it works.

    sweets.....

Ok, first, if you like chocolate, Jello has some new sf puddings in dark chocolate, dark chocolate and raspberry, and chocolate mint. They are super yummy and I eat one every night before bed. Only 60 calories!!! About the fill, mine was completely painless. The PA who does the fill felt around for my port. I put my hands over my head and looked at the ceiling. I was expecting it to hurt, so I didn't want to think about it. She told me there was going to be a stick. I didn't feel anything. It just felt "weird" after the Fluid was in. She put 2ccs in my 11cc band. They normally do 3-4, but I had lost quite a bit already and I asked for less. She put a bandaid on and I sat up and drank the Water she gave me. It kind of stuck going down, so she told me she was going to unfill some. She pulled off the bandaid (now THAT hurt) and stuck me again and took out 1cc, leaving me with 1cc in. I did fine drinking water with that, so I left. My PA doesn't numb the area before doing the fill and I still felt no pain whatsoever, except for when she pulled the bandaid off.

    Weird Taste in Mouth

It could be ketosis breath!!!!! It isn't pleasant, but it is a sign that you are burning fat. People doing Atkins experience it. I did when I was on it. It is just a not so pleasant side effect of the fat burning process.

    Gas, gas and more gas!

I burp ALOT too!!! It is not very nice. I don't do anything about it. If I am not in public, I burp. If I am, I try to excuse myself and then I burp! If I can't excuse myself, I just cover my mouth and try to burp quietly. Did I mention I burp!?
  12. It lasted a while for me also. You are probably fine, just healing. Actually, even when I was 6 weeks post op, bending over for an extended period hurt me. I was bending over helping my students do a project and I was sore for two days at my port site. Be careful and take it easy.

    how long for BCBS approval?

My approval with BCBS of La was very easy. I called the dr's office on June 24th, was approved June 26th, had preop on July 3rd and surgery on July 14th. So, basically it was 3 weeks from my phone call regarding a consultation until my surgery. It went sooooo quick. It must be the individual employer who sets the plan up who decides whether or not there are general exclusions and how many hoops you have to jump through. I did all my pre-consultation paperwork online with my surgeon (took a little over an hour) and the rest was a breeze.

    recentely banded

You really should have followed your dr's orders, but mine did allow a test meal on day 8. This was a soft scrambled egg. His rule was if you could keep it down, you could move on to mushies. I did and I have done well so far. If you insist on eating and aren't going to follow what he said, then please make sure it is soft food/pureed. I know it is hard. That is why I ate the test meal on day 8. Going without food is not easy, but they tell us this so our stomachs can heal. I am doing well, so you will probably be fine as long as you keep it simple.

:thumbup:It sounds like you are doing great. You are getting more in than I did, and that is good. As long as you aren't staying hungry and you are keeping everything down, keep up what you are doing.

    newly banded!!!

Some people don't feel any restriction at all until they have 1 or more fills. You sound like one of the lucky ones who have restriction simply from having the band put on. This is probably due to swelling. I was like that also. This is why you will probably lose weight prior to your fill, even though it is normal for some to gain weight during this time. If your body doesn't want you to sneak these solids, please stop. If you are pbing you are probably delaying the healing. I think this irritates the pouch. Try to stick to your full liquids. If I am correct, this is probably keeping you full since you feel restriction. Spice the soups with extra garlic powder, sage, and pepper. I KNOW it isn't the same as real food, I have been there too. But, you aren't ready for the other stuff and your body is telling you that. I read earlier that someone else had issues with applesauce. Next time, maybe try sf pudding. Take small bites and eat it slowly. It used to take me 10 min. just to eat one of the little pudding cups. It gets better and you will probably continue to lose a few more weeks.

    newly banded!!!

PB is "productive burp". It is like vomiting, but not as gross, because there isn't an stomach acid. food comes up like it went down, but maybe with more saliva (slime). I don't have staples. They used the adhesive on me. Makes a pretty scar :tt2:
  22. crzytchr

    Undecided about a fill....

I almost didn't get my first fill. I was losing weight, but I was starting to get really hungry every 3 hours instead of 4. I went, but I told her I didn't want the normal 3-4ccs they put in. She started with 2cc and I had too much restriction with drinking Water, so she pulled 1cc out. I am fine with this small amount. Bottom line: if you are losing weight and aren't starving, I would probably wait for the fill. You only need the fill when you aren't satisfied any longer and are starving constantly. I understand you are apprehensive, I know I would be too. Give it some time, but please make sure that when you get to the point that you need a fill, you will go. I think you are probably really careful now with what you eat and your chewing. You will do fine. Listen to your body. It knows what you need.:tt2:
  23. crzytchr

    question

You are welcome, and yes, it sounds gross. It has never happened to me, but people say it isn't as bad as actually vomiting. food comes up about like it went down.
  24. As you can see from my post above, mine was completely painless, as was my friend's first fill (she was banded 2 weeks before me). I have heard some people have had problems with them finding the port. In some of those cases, they get it filled standing now and it is easier to find the port. If something happens and they have to stick more than once, ask them if they will try it standing. But, remember, for most people it is painless.
