I haven't heard of beneprotein. Where can it be purchased?

    Surgery after lap band?

I had a hysterectomy in December. Neither my band surgeon nor my gynecologist thought I needed an unfill. I wish I would have had one though. My stomach is very sensitive to fills, and I became too tight after the surgery and was uncomfortable with it for about a month. I didn't want an unfill after, though, because I had a new incision really close to the port and I didn't want to be poked there. Unless they recommend it in your case, I probably wouldn't do the unfill. They are operating on the shoulder, so if you are having problems afterwards, an unfill wouldn't be difficult to get if you need it.

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Welcome back! You know, they say admitting the problem is the first step. You are back on track. Is sugar a problem all of the time? Everyday, all day, or only certain times? Try to figure out what is triggering the craving. If you like it, sugar free pudding is a good alternative. I looooove the dark chocolate flavor. I eat one, sometimes two, almost every night before bed. It keeps me from feeling like I need to eat more food and takes the edge off any hunger pangs before bed. Oh, it also tastes delicious. Good luck at the support group and let us know how it goes.

    Lifting restriction???

Yes, there is a lifting restriction. You should check with your surgeon to be sure what his/her guidelines are. I was restricted to nothing over 15 lbs for 4 weeks.

    Help -Am I too tight???

That cleared it up a little more. It sounds like you need to go on liquids today. You probably have some swelling from last night's episode. Try the warm liquids as suggested and see if that works. If it continues more than a couple of days, please call the doctor.
  8. Journaling is what keeps me honest. I really didn't realize just how much I ate prior to banding. I ate at least twice what I do now and I consistently eat 1200-1500 per day. I find it easiest to use an online site. I use fitday.com, but many people prefer dailyplate.com. There are a lot of sites. Look around and find one that works for you. Good luck!

    Help -Am I too tight???

If you were having problems with foods, I would say adjust your eating and chewing and maybe wait it out, but if you are sliming after water in the morning, you should probably get an unfill. Sometimes it only takes getting .5cc out to help. Call the doctor's office and see what they think.

Thank Orea, I needed that hug. We don't have it yet. If we return today and don't like the terms, we will leave it there. Fortunately I have two older, but paid for vehicles I can alternate driving and just save the money if I don't like the financing terms. I need to pay it off in 16 months for my daughter's graduation so, I don't want to pay a lot of interest. Donna, I also hated being tight. The hysterectomy left me a little too tight for a month and I stopped losing weight. Now, the wreck/stress has me a little tight, but it is only bad in the mornings. I REALLY don't like it. Good luck with the restriction.

    thanks to everyone

Jennifer, I had the same fears you did prior to my surgery. I had reached the ripe age of 40 and had never had surgery before being banded. I just KNEW something was going to go wrong. Well, everything went wonderfully, and I was home by 4:30 the same day. You should be fine. Try to calm down and focus on all of the reasons you are doing this. If that doesn't help, tell the anesthesiologist to pop you with a feel good cocktail to calm you down after you get there. You won't remember a thing!:w00t: Good luck and post when you feel up to it.

Hello fellow butterflies! I have experienced hell all day... yes, I was car shopping. I would rather sit in the dentist's chair for a root canal than car shop. Just having to go to the dealerships and look for a new car made me angry at that woman who caused the accident all over again. Jeez. Orea, I will be praying for you regarding your procedure. Good night butterflies, I need to take the muscle relaxer and go to bed.:w00t:

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

WTG lori! I haven't given up my mochas yet, but I reduce it down until my ventis only have 220 calories. If I DID give them up, it would save me money, though. I hope everyone gets to feeling better and continue the good work!
  15. I have had it last an hour before, and it sucks. And yes, since you are newly banded, I think you should mention it to your dr. You will probably need to go on liquids for a day or two until the swelling goes down. If it lasted over 2 hours there is probably swelling.

    2 weeks since surgery

Mushies are anything that is mushy, kind of like baby food. So, unless you put that pizza through a blender or food processor, you aren't following your diet. I think they require us to move into foods slowly so the churning of the stomach doesn't begin all of a sudden. It allows the sutures holding the band in place to heal. You may want to back off and start you mushy stage again. I ate tuna salad, chicken salad, chili and refried Beans with cheese and ff sour cream. For the tuna and chicken salad, I made it in the food processor. Also anything cooked like soup, stew or even spaghetti with meat can be eaten as long as it is mushed up. You get the flavor, so it still tastes good. I consistantlly eat 1200-1500 calories per day. I have been losing about 10lbs per month, which I am happy with. It isn't the calories that is the problem, but you should get back to the proper diet for now, to be sure you are letting your stomach heal. You shouldn't be eating more than 1/2-3/4 cup of food at each sitting at this point, so keeping the calories less than 1200 shouldn't be a problem. The wine I won't revisit since you already acknowledged it wasn't good. We are human and make mistakes. Start back over and do it right. It isn't easy, but it is worth it. Good luck!

I have taken water aerobics before and it will kick your butt. Anything you do that is moving your arms and legs constantly will increase your heart rate. Also, you can buy aquatic weights to use while you are exercising. Check for them at probably academy sports. I am not sure whether walmart or target carry them.
  18. :crying: Are we putting Lane Bryant out of business? http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/106466/Where-You-Won%27t-Shop-in-2009 I know our goal is to not need to shop there any more, but dangit what will I do until the day comes when I don't need them? I have to buy clothes every 6 weeks or so right now, because I need clothes for work. In fact, for now, I am giving them lots of business.:tt2: How often are you replacing clothes?

    what does pb'd mean?

It means "productive burp". You basically brin,g stuck food back up, many times accompanied by its best friend "slime", which is extra saliva produced to try to unstick the offending piece of food. It is a little like throwing up, but not as bad since it doesn't involve any stomach acid.

    Taking pills

You really need to ask your surgeon's office that question. I take capsules and pills as long as the pills aren't too big, but I am 7 months post op.
  22. Jodi, this is a completely personal decision. If you are female and young without children, I would probably choose the band. Pregnancy with the band is probably a much healthy alternative. Also you should consider how much weight you need to lose. If it is a lot more than 100 lbs, gb may be a better choice for you. For me, the invasiveness of gastic bypass scared me. I have known 5 people who had bypass and they all had to return to the hospital, most of them from malnourishment. They are, however, fine now. My dad is going to have bypass in the next 6 months. He would be unable to eat following band rules. He knows this and has over 200 lbs to lose. The band would not be a choice for him. Think about all of these things and make the decision that is right for you. If you have any questions regarding my band experience you may ask here in the open forum or by private message. Good luck with making your decision.

    Greetings

I am sorry to hear you had all the problems. I have been fortunate so far and haven't had any complications. I was too tight briefly after I had my hysterectomy in Dec. Being too tight was extremely uncomfortable and I ate Cereal until it passed. I couldn't get an unfill, because I had an incision from the hysterectomy where my port is. I definitely didn't want them poking or feeling for it. You are correct that the weight loss can be done without the band. What the band has done for me is help me not be STARVING while losing the weight. I have lost weight before with the lower calorie diet and exercise, but I was hungry most of the time and then returned to eating bigger portions after a while. Hopefully this won't be the case this time. I have lost 72lbs in 7 months. This is a lot, but basically it amounts to about 10 lbs per month which is doable without the band. It really isn't recommended that you eat soup, because it defeats the purpose of the band. Soup can't stay in a pouch, it goes right through. If you are having to eat soup all of the time, you may be too tight. Think about how you feel when you eat foods like chicken or fish. If you are chewing it well and it is uncomfortable, or sticks, you are too tight. If that is the case, consider going for a slight unfill. Sometimes all it takes is .5ccs out to make a huge difference. If you can't eat healthy foods, you won't be able to fuel your body properly to exercise effectively and losing the weight is going to be difficult, if not impossible.
  24. It took a little over 2 weeks from my consultation visit. I had already been to a seminar, so I called, went to consult a few days later. They set up the preop at the hospital the next week and a week after that I had surgery. It really depends on how many hoops your insurance company wants you to jump through. Good Luck!
