  1. I discovered that one of the main reasons I like to drink with my food is to cleanse my mouth. After Im done eating, I now just go to the bathroom and rinse my mouth out a few times. Doing that totally takes away my strong desire to drink after I eat.. It's been working great for me!! I hope this can help someone else. What other tips do you have for life after lap band?

  2. Oh and yes I take anti depressant and anti anxiety and have been able to take both still. I had to switch the meds before surgery because I was on extended release meds and you're not supposed to crush or cut those. So thats all, they just switched me to the regular release ones. I was told my anti anxiety i didn't have to crush or cut because it was so small. My anti depressant i just use a pill splitter to cut in half and I haven't had any problems at all.

  3. I've been banded for just under a month now. I had a little bit of depression that first week after surgery.. I was in a lot of pain and started questioning what I had done.. I've alot of people get that tho. After my pain went away my mood increased significantly.. I went to see my psychiatrist last week and she was amazed at how much this surgery had already effected my overall mood and way of thinking.. So far so good! Lets hope that as my weight keeps going down that my mood keeps going up

  4. WEIRD totally sums up how I felt the first 2 weeks. I was terrifed that I would never feel normal again. I kept asking everyone, "will my insides feel normal again?"... and figuring out your body all over again is soo weird.. it feels totally different when your hungry and totally different when your full.. and then you have these gas pains in the mix as well... Just know that you are just healing... let yourself get used to all the changes.. you WILL feel normal again :-)

  5. yes heating pad def helped!! Maalox also helped. And holding a pillow against my tummy where the gass pain is helps to relieve it for a little.. Mine last about 5-6 days.. Don't really get gas pains anymore like in the beginning, but i do burp like a beast VERY often!! lol

  6. Yes bring PJs, you probably wont wear them in the hospital but for the ride home they are great. Also bring a robe so you can walk the halls... the gowns are backless and I don't think you wanna walk the halls like that :-) Definitely a pillow.. holding the pillow against your side helped when i had gas pains..pillow also helped on the ride home. Chapstick!! yes, a friend suggested I bring that and Im glad I did because my lips were soooo dry. i was going to bring my laptop or ipad but i decided not to last minute. im glad i didnt because i was so out of it most of the time..every once in a while id get on the internet with my iphone but only for like 5 minutes. thats all i can think of.... everything else the hospital pretty much provided me with.

  7. OMG you look fabulous!! And I love your blog.. Definitely bookmarking it! I've got one of my own: http://bettiethederp.tumblr.com/

Just banded on OCtober 17th... still healing..recovering... one day at a time :-)

I'm three years out as of Oct. 23rd, and I eat Soup all of the time. I have it for lunch on a regular basis, and that's the main meal. Once in a while, if I'm going out to eat and everyone is getting appetizers, I'll get a soup to start -- both because I love soup and because it's easy to eat. For you, right now, you're in the healing phase, and you're about to enter "Bandster Hell," so you will need to be more mindful of how much you are eating until you get a decent fill. I really never could stand the whole drinking-while-eating rule, so I only follow it very loosely.

Anyway, no reason you can't enjoy soup for the rest of your life. I did go from getting a large soup and bread at Hale & Hearty pre-band to ordering a medium soup with no bread or crackers. That tides me over pretty well. It' s really helpful to check in with yourself periodically and ask "Am I full?" "Am I really hungry, or is this just head hunger?" If it's real hunger, I get something to eat. If it's not, I don't. Don't worry -- all of this stuff will eventually be second nature to you! :)

    Best wishes for your success,

    Catherine

  8. Tell me about it!! I feel like there is so much to do before Monday and not enough time! Between making sure things are covered at my job and making sure things are covered at home..Im very stressed! We will get thru this!

I am also scheduled on October 17th and I am really excited. Although now that it is so close, I have so much to do around the house that it is crazy. I have been trying to clean our house of all the unecessary stuff and getting it cleaned so I can enjoy the week home after my procedure. We will have to keep in touch and see how each other is doing. I am female also, 39 (40 in November), single-mom and live in Tallahassee, Florida.

  9. Hi everyone!

This is my first post on here.. Im getting banded on October 17th.. I've been looking forward to this for almost a whole year now...well.. I've been overweight for what seems like forever.. but only started considering the lap band about a year ago. My father had lapband about 2 or 3 years ago and has been very successful.

I started my preop diet about 4 weeks ago. This consists of a Protein shake for Breakfast, a Protein Shake for lunch, actual Protein for dinner with veggies... and fruits in between for snacking.. i also allow myself one sugar free italian ice at night. My surgeon thought it was a good idea to start the diet right away and Im glad I did because Ive already lost almost 15 pounds and am very motivated to do this! This Saturday and Sunday I will be on ALL liquids since its the two days before surgery. Im NOT looking forward to that... But I do have my mom coming this Friday, she will stay with me for a week. She is the one that helped my dad when he had his surgery so she is well versed on how to take care of me. I look forward to that.. but Im still a little nervous...

Not so much nervous about actually having the surgery..more nervous about everything that follows after surgery.. Will I be able to do this? Will I succeed?

I've been reading a little in this thread and saw people discussing who they've told about their surgery and not wanting to tell too many people etc... I've told EVERYONE. Im even blogging about all of this and I post my blog on my Facebook page for all to see. Including some unflattering before pictures in a bathing suit.. Yeah, I know.. I must have had a temporary lapse in judgement the day I posted those :-)

Anyways, here's my blog link for those that are interested..: bettiethederp.tumblr.com

I am going to try and be active on this board.. I've never really been a message board kind of person... but I've been on this site for weeks now just lurking.. so I think maybe it's time I start to become that person ;-)

I guess I should also give a little bit of info about me.. Im 27 female living in Orlando, FL with my husband and our two cats..
