My primary Dr referred to one of only 2 bariatric surgeries that she trusts in our area. There office got him approved at a bariatric surgereon. I got approved for a referreal.
Well then i got letters stating that I am approved for surgery BUT they will not cover the surgeon that they approved me for a consult. they now want me to go to a Dr out of state & follow there 12-week diet program for 12-mtonhs...??
thank
my concerns are:
financail burden of the diet & travel.
do not know this Dr.
they are about the pyschy & figuring out things and not so much surgery
why can't i go w/ the Dr i was referred to that is in our network.
the diet will make me sick & i will not learn anything

Your Doctors need to fight for you - specially your general dr
i see my primary on Wed & was wondering if i could talk to her about that!

what ins co do you have?
Group Health!!!

As far as the diet requirement, there is probably no way to get around that. You may be able to appeal the decision to go out of state but there again, insurance companies pretty much call the shots. I think it is wrong but that is the reality and the new norm. The reason they want the supervised diet plan, I feel, is to make sure you are motivated to lose weight and can follow instructions.
I wish you all the best but one argument would be the cost of gasoline these days. Keep us posted.

I'm heading on my 3rd month next week and it has been going very fast. At first I was thinking that it would take forever but I'm moving right along. Before you know it, 6 month will be gone. This has been a learning tool for me also, I have lost only 2 lbs but I'm not gaining. This is my time to learn how to eat because most of the time I starve myself then I'm really hungry, so I will eat without chewin properly. I still have issues, but its getting better I do not want a stuck episode after banding. Also, I'm learning to get my Water in and try different Protein shakes. All I can say is that I'm preparing for banding. Use this time as prebanding prep time. Remember to research and read some of the post here, I have found them to be very helpful. Good luck to you during your journey.
SUCH a positive attitude!! thank you!!

WHAT?? i don't understand.
HOW DO I FIGHT THIS!!!??

THANK YOU!!! very true about more people post that are looking for help!!!

How many people have you spoken to?
How many people are on the sleeve support group as compared to the lapband support group?
How long have they had their bands/sleeves? Probably not too many people that have had a sleeve for 2 or more years.
I have a band , I am 100% happy and I believe myself to be successful.
THANK YOU!!

I love this thread! So nice to see so many positive outcomes. Thanks to everyone that posted for giving the rest of us hope and encouragement!

I have been looking at the Sleeve & the Band. it seems more people are happy w/ the sleeve than the band! I fell like the band could help you be more in control!!
PLEASE HELP!!
-
YAH!! so glad to find this!! i am thinking of banding!! seems like the best option.

-

This meal plan consists of consuming 4 Protein drinks and 1 meal at regularly spaced intervals throughout the day. For example:
7:30 am - Protein bar or shake
10:30 am - protein bar or shake
1:30 pm - protein bar or shake
4:30 pm - protein bar or shake
7:30 pm - meal/TV-dinner (Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, etc)
Note: if you still have calories available and are still hungry you can add lean meat to your dinner; such as boneless, skinless chicken
Women 5'4" and below: 1100 calories and at least 60 grams of protein daily
Women above 5'4": 1200 calories and at least 65 grams of protein daily
Men 5'9" and below: 1300 calories and at least 70 grams of protein daily
Men above 5'9": 1400 calories and at least 75 grams of protein daily
Do NOT consume more than your calorie limit and get at least your protein minimum every day for two weeks.
I have been using the EAS Protein Bars and shakes - specifically the carb control bars and shakes. You can get these at Walmart. The first few days can be bad due to headaches but after that no so bad at all. I usually have a protein bar for Breakfast, Protein Shakes at 10:30, 1:30, and 4:30 and then a Healthy Choice meal for dinner. Tonight I added chicken to my dinner and still had about 70 calories left over.

wow!! very good point!!
At 39 with no other health issues other than being over weight I had a stroke. Four days in intensive care at one of the best Neurological hospitals in the country and then 3 more days in a regular ward. Doctors have no definative answer as to what caused the blood clot but said they could'nt rule out my weight. If that does'nt give one a giant push to changing their life style I don't know what will.

so i started thinking about the 2. and really questioning my decision to band. this is what i started thinking.
yes there is an object in there. you will have to do fills.
but if you do the "sleeve" they cut away your stomach. what happens if it stretches again?? just like w/ bypass wls, if you start gaining you just have to do the diet. w/ the band they can adjust it!!!
just my 2 cents & what's going thru my head!
-
same here! on the fence!! what are some problems you've had with the sleeve?
-
google it also.. i've had 5 surgeries in my 41 yrs of life. 2 of them after i had high blood pressure.. i was more worried about those surgeries than this one. maybe w/ bipass surgery. but not lap-band. not very invasive!!
-
so it is different w/ each insurance?? will my insurance reguire a psych eval??
i just finishing doing WW - did great, but everytime i lose 60-70lbs it comes back on . everytime!!
so i hope i don't have to.
is the information seminar helpful??
-
how hard/restrictive is the diet??
-
I have group health insurance & i know they can be picky. what has been your experience? my primary only gave me a referral for a consult. Dr. Bright has been approved as a bariatric surgery.
Anyone been overweight their ENTIRE life?

I started putting weight at age 8. when i was around 12 i was thin, but told i was heavy. so i started putting on weight. now i am 300+ lbs & 42 yrs old. i lose weight than goes right back on. i fail at maitance.
also it seems like when it's that time i can't stop eating.
so i have starting looking into lapband. have that physical reminder about eating.
also has anyone has a personal trainer w/ nutrition? there are 2 gyms here doing that now, was thinking of doing that.
