    Fyi, A Pound Of Muscle.....

Who started that misconception??? I've heard it said by SO many people (and believed it myself at one time too). I had a WW leader dispel that myth, some of the people were pissed! LOL!
  2. Ain't that the truth! Congrats!

    Oily Skin & Acne! Ugh!

I worry about this because I already suffer with moderate acne. From what I've read, it's normal due to the hormones that were stored in your fat cells being released into your body as you lose weight. I wonder how long it takes for your body to regulate the hormones though...

    Where Are You 200+Er's?

that's a really good point! Even if we "only" lose 60% of our excess weight, that's not a drop in the bucket!

    Where Are You 200+Er's?

That's great to hear, that several have lost 150-200 pounds. Thanks for that. I hear you, my goal weight is 180-190 just because I just want to be in one-derland SO BAD! LOL I was annoyed at first because I thought he was going to really try and push RNY on me, but he did just quick blurb comparing the two then the rest of the visit we talked about the sleeve. And like I said, as he was leaving he grabbed my hand and looked me in the eye and said "with dedication and motivation, you'll blow that average out of the water!". So it was left on a very positive note.

    Where Are You 200+Er's?

Hey everyone! So I had my surgical consult yesterday. The surgeon was great and gave me some things to think about. He asked me a question regarding weight loss with the sleeve that I'm wondering if any of you have worked through. He said that with the sleeve, patients will lose 60% of their excess body weight. If I fall within this average, I'd lose about 125 pounds which will still categorize me as obese. He said "if that happens, will you be ok with that?". I was surprised by the question so I just said, I guess so. Now that I've had some time to think it through, my answer is HELL no. LOL I'm not going through all of this to still be unhealthy! I plan to exercise to maximize my results, but being honest he's put this little seed of doubt in my head that I need to work through. My hubby, love him, just said "when have you ever been average?". The doc even said that with motivation and dedication, the average can be blown out of the water. So I'm just wondering, for those of us that need to lose more than the average, how are you attacking it? How are you keeping yourself motivated? Do you ever wonder about the what if's?

    Who Did You Tell?

That said, I've already told more people than I originally planned to, so we'll see how it works out in the end.

    Who Did You Tell?

I am debating this now. Right now, my husband, children, mom, and a handful of close friends know. I have a blog that I shared with my friends to tell them. I plan to open up a bit more with a larger circle of friends and family once I actually have a surgery date. I struggle with telling coworkers. My boss and one coworker knows but I'm not sure about telling others. One in particular has a big mouth and makes snide comments all the time about people. I already know she'll say something dumb. I agree that it's a very personal decision. I already feel like an exhibit when I eat with people watching me and I feel like that will get worse if I tell them about the surgery. That one coworker gave me grief the other day for turning down a cupcake as big as my head.

    New To Flirting

Smile, graciously accept the compliments and keep it moving. if you weren't married I'd say flirt back! You're probably oozing confidence (even if you don't know it) which makes the guys crazy. Soak up that you'll never be invisible again.

    Approved!

    Congratulations!
  15. So many seem to have their surgical consult early on in the process, with my program it's one of the last things you do. After this, everything goes to insurance for approval. <insert panic here> Anyway, between my husband and I, we have ummm.....4 pages of questions. It's 4 pages, typed up, with room under each question for me to write his answer. Is he going to look at me like I'm crazy? LOL I admit, many of the questions I've seen various answers for through researching and being here, but I want to hear the answers from *his* mouth. Is that weird? So, what say you, am I crazy? edited to add: I just counted, it's 31 questions. some of which may be answered during his spiel (if he gives one).
  16. This is a really good idea! Here are the questions my husband and I came up with (again, many of these are basic questions that can be found with research, I just want to hear his thoughts): Experience: How many sleeves performed? On people with a BMI similar to mine? How often have you had to change to an open surgery? Surgery: How long is the surgery typically? How much of stomach is removed? Typical size of Bougie? Or typical size of sleeve after surgery? Do you staple and sew the sleeve or just staple? Hospital Stay: Day of surgery – what is it like? Who can be there? Bariatric patients with other patients? Typical hospital stay? Do you perform surgery on specific days? How are leaks checked? How many times? Is a catheter used? When is it placed and removed? ET tube? NG tube? Drain? If yes, when are they removed? Recovery: What types of pain medicines are given? (very bad reaction to codeine) Taking one week off, then working from home for one week. Sound feasible? How long until cleared for normal activity? Exercising? Strength training? Risks: What are the most common post-op complications? Any risk of rupturing the stomach (not stretching)? Chance of leak after leaving hospital? Risk of blood clots? (hormonal BC) Risk of hernia or adhesion? Any risk associated with the stomach not producing grehlin? Is stricture common? How is it treated? I have acid reflux , how common post-op? Treatment provided at discharge? Post Op (down the line): How often do I see you post-op? Goal weight?
