  1. Thank God for this post. i went to a support group meeting last night and walked away freaked out. i am a month and 11 days out and i am able to eat what i want per my surgeon. i thought i was supposed to be getting 400-600 calories a day. so at the meeting with our dietition she said we should only be getting 500 calories a day and made me feel bad cause i craved ice cream and ate it one day. not a lot of it, but just to cure the craving and i did not go HAM on it, very little. my surgeon also told me soda was ok once in a while and the dietition was like No no No!!! so i have a hard time getting my calories in some days and those dang protein shakes make me want to hurl. i told her i was eating a stouffers meal for lunch once a day and yes they can have up t0 425 calories but they have 24 grams of protien and it helps me meet my calorie intake and get more protein than i would if i didnt and i got ripped for that. so im like wtf am i supposed to eat and how many calories am i ok with. i have lost 25 lbs since surgery so i gotta be doing something boardline right

4 weeks post op - is it too early for salad?

i bought the small apple pecan sald from wendys last week and it was fine. i didnt add the walnuts but i chewed and everything went down. it took me 3 days to eat it but at least i know i can have salads
  4. In a week maybe a week in a half you will so much better, trust me. thepain took me by surprise and i felt like i was dying. i had to stay in the hospital a few days and do a blood transfusion. today makes a month and i am feeling so much better. im tired and im confused about what to eat but i do eat and trist me it is nothing like i used to and the weight will come off and people will take notice. i think i even broke down and cried because i was like WTF did i do after the first week, but i feel much better and i am just riding this new life out. you will be glad you did it shortly
  5. im 3 weeks out this wednesday and im testing out lots of stuff. cottage cheese and speghetti sauce, scrabbled eggs, pureed chicken and mayo on toast, mashed potatoes, grits, smoothies, greek yogart, thin sliced turkey and cheese. i have done great with these, other things didnt agree with me but i will try them again later.

    Home After Surgery - Reflective...

wow good luck on your journey. i was also sleeved on the 4th and i felt like hell. i was like WTF did i do. i still dont think i would do it over if given the chance and i thank God i dont have too. i stayed in the hospital until that sat and was sent home. its goodto be able to see how someone else who just got sleeved is handling things. im trying to get the fluids in and walk. i have a constant pain in my left back i think and hope its gas. other than that the pain is going away, i just have to get this drain removed. looking forward to more updates from you.
  7. glad im not the only one worried about this. i wasnt weighed before surgery so i have no clue how much i lost oh the pre opt diet. i had surgery wednesday and weighed myself yesterday and was 235. i was 238 when i started my journey, and a week before surgury before the diet i was 230. i figured im still full of gas so that is why i am at 235

    Stressing Out

Thanx for the encouragement. the surgery took place as planned on wednesday and i just came home today.
  9. Hi All! Im new to this site as i was originally getting banded and was on the sister site lapbandtalk. i changed my mind and decided to go with the sleeve and i just need to vent a little. my surgery date is scheduled for tomottow and i have been on this liquid diet for a week now and i am almost flipping out because there has been no word from the insurance company yet. my surgeon is open until 5pm and after that the deal is off and i have to reschedule for a new date. im almost in tears. i feel like the surgeons office waited until the last minute to submit. They gave me this date in Nov, but dont submit for approval until last week. the insuarance company said they did not get all of the paperwork, so they resubmitted everything on Friday and because of the holiday, i had to wait until today. so here it is 3.21pm and no word yet. my wife said to relax but its getting harder with each minute. if they say no because they want 6 months of dieting then ok, i understand and told myself to expect that. case, but any other reason and im just going to be a mess.
  10. Congratulations!!! im so happy for you. i am scheduled for tomorrow but have yet to hear from the insurance. i am almost in tears, i was supposed to get banded but switched to the sleeve. in any event we will all get what we want and that's a new lease on life. best of luck to you.

    Failed My Sleep Study!!!!

i was really scared with my first study. i was diagnoised with sleep apnea years ago. too bad your dr's office doesnt do this all in one shot. ask if you can switch to another center. the one i went to was really nice, although i felt very wierd about being hooked up to all those cords and wires. I dont go to sleep until 2-3am. they said i had to go to sleep around 11. i got there at 8 to get prepped and relaxed. if i couldnt fall asleep they had meds to help. a few days later my dr called and told me i had severe apnea and i just had to go to a pulmonary dr to get fitted for a mask, no new sleep study. My most recent study was a nightmare but ony because they were doing a study on a little boy who was loud and rowdy until 1am and finally his parents took him home. i hope you are able to go somewhere else and have a much better calmer experience.
  12. Congrats i hope to hear something in a few weeks, my date is Jan 4th.
  13. Great question. i have been thinking about this to since i am scheduled for surgery 1/4/2012 and need to give my boss a heads up. thanks everyone for all the feedback and good luck to you on your surgery

    Banded This Morning

Wow! Congrats, I wish you the best, thanks for sharing
  15. so i met with the dietition last week. she was informative as to what foods where good and bad but we did NOT set a weight loss goal of any kind. Now i feel like i have been left hanging. she told me, some foods i will never be able to eat again, but im like ok i understand that, but she didnt set up anything to say ok, you should start eating this or that and we are going to set a goal to loose x amount of weight. i keep reading about people here drinking Protein Shakes, but she didnt mention anything about those. all i know is i have to cut out certain foods and go by some generic chart she gave me. at my last drs visit it was suggested i see the dietition more than once so that Aetna doesnt make me do the 6 months and will just give me an approval with 3. I had already decided to see the dietition up until surgery because i want to make sure i have everything in place and a good understanding of what i will be able to eat and how much once i have the surgery. so as im ready i see people getting approval and then their dates. mines is the opposite. i have the date, but no approval. i called the dr to see when they would be putting in for the approval and they said the middle of Dec!!!! WHAT???? you ask for an approval 2 weeks before my surgery (Jan 4, 2012) what if they say no? uggghhhh!!! so here i am not really sure what i should be eating, just what i shouldnt be eating.
  16. Everyone thanks for the tips. i went grocery shopping and got a lot of low cal stuff and just planned ahead for the week. i boiled eggs and bought wheat mini bagels instead of plain big ones, i started doing salads instead of fast food, and i am trying to stay away from frying food, and i even found something to make water taste better without calories or very little. so all of the ideas have helped. i am just changing the food and cutting back on the calories.
  17. Thanks, for the encouragement. i saw this dietition because my surgeon recommended her. i like the idea of an alternative to my favorite tings.
  18. This is great to hear, i have Aetna also and i dont even know if my dr put in for approval yet but he already gave me a date.

  20. My Before & After Photos!
  21. wow Roe you are really moving. i saw my surgeon for the second time friday. he is ok, but his staff is awesome. i have to see the dietition twice in order to not have to do 6 months and still have to see the cardio and pulmonary drs. have you lost any weight since going to the nutrition classes? wow i am excited for you

  22. Good afternoon ladies!!! Well i went to see my surgeon on Friday and although i hate that he makes his patients wait 20-30 minutes to see him, he was more friendly this time around and seemed to be ope to any questions that i had. his receptionsist is awesoe, she is super nice and asks lots of questions to make sure you are on track and just makes you feel like soeone in the office actually cares. she inquired about the surgery date, wich i told her i did not have yet and hoped to get that day. so far all i knew was January, she immediately said we can do january 17th and that was cool but i said if you have anything earlier i will take that. And what do you know January 4th is wide open. I can definately blow off any liquor on NYE in exchange for getting my surgery! so i left there feeling pretty awesome. she did mention that my insurance company would want me to be seen for 6 months prior to surgery (which is something i dreaded especially since i have seen just about everybody with Aetna on here only having to do 3, but i drilled it in my head that this was a possibility so dont be too upset if it came to this) however she said if i saw the dietition twice instead of once then they tend to approve it with the 3 months, so i will definately see her twice. I was down by the end of the day though because i forgot to get a referal from my PCP to see the dietition today, so i have to reschedule. i also have to make appts to see my pulmonary and cardio dr for clearance letters, so i thought i was little ahead of the game, but not really i still have lots to do. but with a surgery date set i am definately motivated to not drag my feet.
  23. Hi everyone!!! My name is Shalene, im 37 and from NJ. I have been gaining weight at such a fast rate I didnt even realize I was packing it on the way I was. After changing my diet and working out it seems like I wasnt getting anywhere. So finally last month I gave some serious thought to WLS. I hit the internet and I found a surgeon and set up an appt. I met with my surgeon last month and walked away with mixed feelings about him. But i am forging ahead, i figured i can stop and start over with a new surgeon if i felt the same way after out second meeting. My surgeons website recommended a group and I checked them out and wasnt too impressed. I found this site and you guys are awesome. I feel like I will really find some support and answers here, so I am looking forward to making new friends
