  1. Today 120.6

I'm joining too, just finished the Labor Day challenge - met my goal for the challenge as well as my goal of healthy BMI.

Weight before surgery 242 start of 6 month MSWL, 213.4 date of surgery

    Date of surgery 8/8/11

    Current weight 121.4

    Goal weight for competition 117

I weigh every day and only records losses, sometimes that is every few days, sometimes every few weeks.

  2. I have at max 4 packets a day, mostly only one when I do have it, probably half the time I have none so I can do that! I have stevia too but it is a bag and trying to use up my packets for now. How is stevia - still considered natural and safe? I'm on day 3 and I think day one is hardest - saying "NO" to the bad carbs when technically you could still eat them and be in calories. I had some raw veggies and dip last night at a party and steered away from the sugar cookie fruit pizza ;)

I have recently heard some not so flattering things about Splenda. I'm am cutting down my consumption of it by a lot. It is said that anything more than 7 packets per day is detrimental in the long term and can cause cancer.

I highly encourage all veggies and legumes/beans. :)

This Starting Over plan is only meant to be in the very short term and I do not personally recommend anything more than 5 full days. I believe 100% that we should eat a well balanced diet.

    HTH!!

  3. A couple questions - Splenda? coffee? Processed meats (beef Jerky, beef sticks)? Edamame (nut/seed/veggie - not sure)?

I get lots of questions regarding how to get back on track. This journey is tough, and one thing I've learned is that I'm not perfect - but if I'm going to move past that I have to figure out how to forgive myself. For me, the main factor in my obesity was my inability to overcome this. So I would give up and gain all my weight back, and even more. I cannot do this to myself!!! I have to pick myself back up and keep it moving. I didn't go through 2 torturous painful weight loss surgeries to just keep giving up. Heck no!!!

So, along my Sleeve Journey, when I noticed I wasn't doing well and needed to get back on track this is what I did:

    The BASICS BOOTCAMP:

For 5 STRICT DAYS I will eat only...

Proteins: Seafoods, Poultry and eggs, Dairies, nuts/seeds including Peanut Butter.< /strong>

    Veggies: Green only.

    Fruits: None.

    Breads/Cereals/Other Carbs: None.

Fluids: One gallon of Water (128 oz.)

    Protein Drinks (RTD or Powder).

    Avoid: Sugar and Sodium

Once the 5 days are over, I am pretty much over the Sugar Carb Demon. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate carbs! I do need them to live a healthy life and since I workout a lot it is important I have them. However, I need GOOD carbs. Whole grains, fruits, veggies... But I don't need processed sugars. White carbs, in cereals, breads, rice... etc.

Lots will do the 5 day pouch test. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ Great! To each their own. I personally do not do this. My first reason is because I don't have a pouch. I have a sleeve. The second reason is because for me, this has proven nothing but torture for me. I don't feel like I should have to do that. My personal program works just as good without that side effect. The only reasons I've ever done liquids only is simply from being threatened with my life (post op) or if I'm just feeling sick and to let my Sleevie rest. That's it.

Good luck everyone! This journey is tough, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. Xoxo

  4. copying over from MFP...

Yay! I want to join too! I have a few goals, I would like to be 117 lbs by 1/1 - that is around 6 lbs. I am in a normal BMI just barely and want to be more solid. I want to enjoy the holidays (I was on a feeding tube last year) but not go overboard. I want to continue to walk at least 5 days a week. This week I began taking my lunch at 10:30 and 2 breaks together at 1:30 and walking about a mile on one - would like to do it on both. I know once it starts getting dark earlier it will be too easy to just not walk at night!

  5. Yes - see link in my signature for my story. Feel free to pass it on to him as well.

A very close friend of mine recently had VSG done and he is included in the 1% who develop a leak. 3 days post op started to experience a lot of pain and shortness of breath, was taken to the ER and within a short amount of time was in the OR. A leak was detected and they were unable to do anything endoscopically so they had to open him up. Two drains were placed in the abdomen, stent placed in the stomach, PICC line inserted and a feeding tube placed in the small intestine to administer tube feeds. He is on antibiotics, IV fluids and tube feeds. He had this done at a large hospital very familiar with this type of surgery and has only had this happen twice. He is currently stable and was told that if all goes well and no further complications develop, home in 1 to 2 weeks but will be on tube feeds from 3-6 months and IV antibiotics. Has anyone gone through this or know someone that has? I have browsed the internet for hours and can't really find anything similiar to his situation. Thanks and wish you all the best!

  7. I highly suggest asking around the revision forum - I know the risk can be higher in that case. They say in general 1% have complications. Doesn't sound like much until you are the 1%. But the other 99% don't have them. Really, it is like any surgery - there is risk. But don't let it discorage you - just educate yourself on the possibilities.

Are these types of complications normal for the sleeve? I'm thinking of revision from the lap band, but after reading this thread, I'm having second thoughts.

  8. I think it is important to remember that the sleeve is a tool, you still have to exercise control over what and how much you eat, to an extent - the further out you get, the more important this becomes. I can tell you know this - you regret that pizza. Try to portion your food - if you know you can eat 12 shrimp, only put 6 on your plate, 1/2 of wings, etc. (remember there is alot of bone on that 1 lb of wings). Also, make sure you aren't allowing yourself to eat longer than 20-30 minutes - if you are, some of your food has digested and that is why you can eat more.

  9. Hi guys! Right now I am an Illinois sleever, but we plan to move (back) to FL next year. We were in Zephyrhills/Wesley Chapel 2004-2007. I expect we will move back to the area. Would love to live farther south and closer to the gulf but I just don't know much about those areas and jobs. My husband worked in Lakeland and I worked in Tampa so we were located well. We have been shaking our heads, wondering what the heck we were thinking almost since we moved back to IL. We both are from here. My older daughter is married and they are here in IL, as well as my mom. My younger daughter is a high school senior this year and is applying at UNF for Fall 2013. She's the reason we are still here, she wanted to graduate with her friends here. House goes on the market in April and she graduates in May - can't wait to be headed back to FL! I have a count down going! I attend my support group here monthly and am really wanting to find one for when we move also. So if anyone attends one in the general area and you think it is a good one, let me know! I don't mind driving 45 mins to an hour - I do here! Looking forward to getting to know everyone! I see lots of August 2011 sleevers I recognize here!

  10. What are you eating 4oz of? Is it dense Protein like chicken breast? Or soft?

you guys are making me worried because I can eat 4oz with no problem. However, depending on the food sometimes I have to eat a little less. Am I eating to much? I'll be 1 month post op on the 9th

I can eat 4oz np either but what I do to eat a little less, measure your food and put it on a very small plate so it looks a lot try not to exceed to 4oz that's what I do even though you can eat 4 oz dnt go up to 4oz that's like your full point

  11. Are you on a PPI? I have a gnawing, almost like hunger, feeling when I don't take my PPI. If you aren't you might want to get on one. Also, most of what you mention eating is fairly soft - how much chicken breast can you eat? Dense Proteins will fill you up and keep you full longer.

I just returned from my 6 week post op check up. As I have been telling my doctor and dietician from the beginning...I am hungry and I can eat too much! (examples: 3 eggs and 3 turkey sausage links/ entire 2 cup can of Soup / full plate of fish and green Beans...I always stop myself because I SHOULD, but know that I could eat more!) The dietician was so condescending. She just kept telling me that I just need to continue making healthy choices. She does not understand the fear of losing 100+ pounds, only to gain it back again. (which I have done several times) In fact, she encouraged me to eat like I used to...just to see what happens. I really feel like the surgery has not been helpful...I just feel like I am on a diet. I am hungry often, and simply relying on my willpower. What is going to happen when I have a weak moment and eat something I shouldn't eat? I was really counting on my sleeve to allow me to say "Well, at least I only ate 4 tablespoons of it".

I am having another upper GI on Monday. But the doc says the only thing he can do is go back in and try to tighten things up. I said "So...basicly re-do the surgery?" He nodded "yes." I told him I only had one shot at this because of finances, time off, and the fact that I will not upset my kids again by going back into the hospital for 3 more days.

I am pretty much devistated. That is my sleeve story thus far. :(
