  1. Look for Tiffykins - she is pregnant about 10 weeks I think and I just saw someone else today too so you aren't alone. I am sure they can help with what you need to do!

    My internist opened my eyes

Good luck in your journey - I haven't had the sleeve yet so can't answer most questions. Call your insurance to see if they cover the sleeve. As for weight loss, I have heard it can be comparable to gastric bypass.

congrats on being on such a reduced insulin dose! You know, in May people will probably have things like cottage cheese, fruit salad, lunch meat and veggies. I am pre-sleeve so don't know what all you can have at that point but maybe some cottage cheese? If you have to take a dish you could always find a recipe that you can eat and take that. I would take plenty of fluids just in case all they have is soda.
  5. What is your height? Your goal weight is similar to me. Congrats! I hoping to be sleeved in July/August
  6. I am sooo glad to have found this site to help me decide on the sleeve because I was seriously considering the band and this freaks me out now!

3500 Calories per pound of fat?

I have always heard that in terms of a week - like if you eat 3500 less in a week so 500 less a day you lose a pound in a week. So not sure how that works - but definitely makes you wonder just how many calories you were eating - I know some things will give you a days worth of calories - like a big mac - and that is just part of a meal. I know I have been guilty many times of eating something sooo full of calories - heck even a blizzard is pretty high, or a piece of cake. Soda is like 120 calories in a can, think if you cut a few cokes a day - etc. It all adds up so if before surgery you were eating 2500 calories in a day and now only 500 - that is 1500 less a day - so 3-4 pounds a week loss...
  9. Well if she is staying if you, you can always say "I had something before you got up" or "I ate a snack while you showered" if she asks - but since she will notice your weight loss, the only questions you may get are "How'd you do it? You look great!" And in that you can say "Eating smaller portions and using the tools available." If she asks what those are you can always say "Writing what I eat and things like that."
  10. applesauce mixed with cottage cheese sounds good! but I love mashed potatoes too!

    Fantastic Find

wow! Thanks for sharing! Greek yogurt alone tastes nasty to me but sounds like it would be good with the crystal light!

    Day 19. Wipeout

feel better! On the bright side, can you count the liquid keflex as liquid? hehe
  13. My daughter (age 16 and size 10) went through her winter clothes last weekend before we went to buy her some summer clothes. And I snagged on to a few of her things she doesn't want. Because I KNOW by late winter I will need those! )) I cannot wait to be that size or smaller! Then we went shopping for her at Aerie and you know what? I want to wear that cutesie stuff too!! I am looking forward to shopping!

    Goal Outfit

I LOVE this! That's what I am hoping for! I do have some sizes just a little smaller than me in my closet in capri's that I would be thrilled to get to wear late this summer, then I have nothing until size 10's. I have lots of sweatshirts that I am counting on getting me through most of the winter and some stretch pants too - will pick up supplemental stuff at Goodwill when I need to. The 10's I have are from garage sales, hand me downs from my daughter or left from my foray at goal about 7 years ago with weight watchers. But hey, I won't be upset if I skip those 10's LOL
  15. Thanks guys! I hear so many who go to Mexico say they are back to work within a week so I wondered. At this point I am thinking the whole month - it will be the end of summer so I could spend some nice time with my 16 year old before school starts back up and just get some rest in general.

    Made a hopeful purchase today

That's exciting! And I agree with Kelly - you will get in to it! I have done the same - garage sale today, bought some M-L shirts and cute 10 capri's and bremuda's for next summer. Because I KNOW I will get there - and so will you!

    Another silly supervised diet question...

My understanding is 6 Dr appointments - I have seen people say you can do one at the end of one month like say April 30th and then have your last one on Sept 1st and that counts. I have also heard someone say to schedule your appointments ever 25 days instead of 30. I think the main thing is 6 calendar months April May June July August September - not necessarily the dates.

    anticipa-a-a-a-tion!

I hit a garage sale today - found myself buying things for my daughter that if she doesn't like I will sit back for me hehe! I am pretty sure I need to organize my closet in to sizes!

    evaluating protein drinks?

I'm pre sleeve but everyone seems to talk about the grams of protein and that seems in line with what I hear.

    depressed

Have you been to your dr in the last 6 months? I know mine always documents my weight. I had a few months where I didn't go before I got to looking in to the sleeve so I had to start fresh with 6 months - I go to my 3rd one Monday. Several people have said if you go late the first month and early the last month that is acceptable and you basically only go about 4 1/2 months. Hang in there - it will go fast. I clarified with my insurance and they said it has to be documented by a Dr and weight watchers didn't count.

    VSG or RN&Y

I haven't had the Sleeve yet but I can ditto everything above as well. I originally went to an orientation thinking I would do lap band but after wards was undecided. In the orientation I learned of the sleeve - I had never heard of it so I started researching it and decided it is the WLS for me. I never considered RNY - I have many friends who have severe malabsorbtion issues and also either didn't lose the weight or have gained back.

    Day 16. Navel gazing

Are you off work? How long did you take? I will have to stock up on crayons before surgery, our Walgreens isn't a 24 hour on so I could be desperate if I don't. I have had surgery - even abdominal surgery - a few times so I know what it will be like. But I will still whine and make my family wait on me while they are around. hehe
  23. I had my surgeon appointment yesterday and he has been doing sleeves for a little over a year and has done 14. Just wondering how many others had done? Anxious to hear if anyone was the first for those of you farther out in the journey. Also, have they had any deaths? If so, did that discourage you or did you look for a different surgeon? My surgeon has had one death with a sleeve and it was a modified sleeve with several co-morbities and an extensive revision, open surgery.
  24. I am doing Weight Watchers while I am waiting out my 6 months of diet with my Dr. I figure it is a jump start and my insurance says "The initial BMI at the beginning of a weight reduction program will be used to meet the BMI criteria for the definition of morbid obesity used in this policy." So I don't have to worry about getting too low. I was wondering so some are following a liquid Protein diet for many months before hand?
