  1. WOW...that is awesome news and good information to know. How many VSG's has your surgeon done? Any complaints? Would you have done anything differently? Did the facility seem state of the art?

I have a good relationship with my civilian surgeon and I'm terrified of going to an MTF. There are no do over's with this procedure.

How are you feeling these days any regrets?

My surgeon is a Captain and I <3 him! My surgery took 1 hour and I was walking the same night after surgery.. I have had no issues other than trying to find a Protein supplement I like.. I have lost about 60lbs since January (25th) and that is without any exercise.. I just returned from a 6 day trip to Jamaica at an all inclusive resort and I had a fabulous time, was comfortable in the airline seats, bus seats walking in my bathing suit on the beach at the resort etc.. If I went on this trip without the surgery I KNOW I would have been miserable.. I had a fabulous time and thank my Doctor everyday for listening to me and accepting me as a WLS candidate.

If you called NAS JAX about surgery you probably talked to the WLS Coordinator/Nurse Mrs. Massari.. She has her moments, I attend the monthly meetings she is in charge of them ...

  2. I will have to see if the Commissary carries the yoplait greek yogurt.. I don't recall if the ones I tried were FF I am going to assume yes they were ... Last night I took the Fage and added some Torani vanilla SF Syrup it smelled so yummy still tasted blah so I added some fruit .. nope blah.. I added some stevia (I should have tried splenda) and I had to dispose of it.. just bleh all around.. My DH bought the stevia to try I prefer splenda...

  3. Hi Welcome.. WOW!! your process has only taken a month... Protein really is to each individual person.. Pre-Op i went and ordered a bunch of stuff and post op I couldn't stand it.. My suggestion is if you want to see what an RTD (ready to Drink) protein tastes like versus a powdered protein you mix yourself then buy individual servings.. not too many your tastes may change after surgery.. I am still looking for a protein that I can tolerate 2 months out.. Best of Luck to you

  4. My one regret was not taking measurements before I had the surgery.. I am going to have my measurements taken now and see what I lose.. I know though that even though the scale wasn't moving I was losing inches because I had to FINALLY cave in and buy a pair of jeans.. So just know just because the scale isn't moving doesn't mean that you aren't losing in other places.. :)

  5. Thank you! You both are very kind.. I still have a ways to go ... I'd love to lose 55 more lbs and get rid of this darn lap belly.. it is getting smaller every month though and I am super excited about that!

I wish I had a workout partner but since I am new to the area no such luck so I have to be my own motivator... I have been exercising on the Wii.. I change up the Workouts I do.. I have a 10 minute solution, Jillian Michaels & the Biggest Loser, I also try to ride my bike and since the weather is FINALLY starting to warm up I will add laps to it (my pool isn't large by any means but it isn't small either).. I am hoping this will help me get to goal, if in a months time I see no change then I think I will drop the $100 to do the Bootcamp that a Gym is offering around the corner.

I am glad I can share my story with you and inspire you, I know I look for others to share their stories good and bad as well.

  6. Afternoon! It is about time I check in..

I read someone posted that they do not tolerate Protein Drinks, I am in that same boat.. Though I have lost a total of 45lbs I am currently at 190.. This past week I upped my physical activity.. I started experiencing Hair loss mid March, so I guess I should look into Biotin?

Other than that I am doing good, I am hoping that upping the physical activity will help me lose at least 10-20lbs by May... I am 55lbs from my goal weight..

    I wish I had a Trader Joe's near me...

I just finished prepping dinner for tonight.. i find I eat healthier and graze less when I have pre packed or pre prepared meals waiting..

There have been times since surgery I have eaten things I feel I shouldn't have.. I had some chips Doritos... I had a kids meal from McD's and was immediately ill and did not feel better until i had expelled what little I had eaten.. (NEVER AGAIN, even if DH thinks it's ok)

I am all over with this post.. LOL

I can not stand the taste of greek Yogurt, Fage etc... I wish I could they seem to be such a staple in many WLS diets post surgery.. I am also lactose intolerant now which sucks because I am trying to find a milk alternative but it sucks to buy a 1/2 gallon of something that I may not finish.

Other than those few things I am doing good and have no problem eating and am enjoying losing the inches instead of lbs losing lbs when it happens and looking at my sz 22 & 24's and packing them away and fitting into 16/18's.. So yeah!

  7. Wow! I can't believe it has been 2 months since my surgery..

I was sleeved 1/25/12 and have been doing great my surgery lasted an hour I was walking that same night and the next day I was wearing my own clothes having the nurses asking if I was a patient here.. LOL (I did have to stay on the ICU floor due to no room on the other floor)..

0600 showtime, 0800 went in for surgery 0900 came out... ICU Room not sure of the time I was loopy from the anesthesia and MORPHINE rocks! About 8pm that night I did 2 laps around the ICU floor .. Next day 1/26 0800 Barium swallow and was cleared for liquids ... Water and broth never tasted so good..

I hit ONDERLAND in February (at the end) then I was in a stall for 2.5 weeks.. My weight finally moved a # and I am hoping my stall is OVER!! I am 190lbs, as of this morning. I started off at 235lbs.

I do not take any Protein supplements as I have yet to find one that doesn't make me ill. I am taking my Vitamins on a semi regular basis (don't shoot me, I am seriously working on it).. LOL this week I have upped my physical activity and focused on my water intake.

I haven't had any issues at all with the exception of a period that lasted about 3 weeks, I had to get birth control and am thankfully back in control... grin.gif Thank you everyone for the kind words on my surgery day and I apologize of not coming back sooner with an update..

  10. Circa I have not tried the Max Protein as I can not find it locally .. Never heard of Premier Protein.. Tomorrow I am going to try the Protein shot that I bought, I also have a lean body shake to try.. I NEED to get in my protein.. Also Vitamins, the WLS nurse/coordinator not sure her official title, I think is a bit bi-polar. She told me she had protein samples for me when she came to my room after the surgery she said she never say that.. Then she said I have Vitamin samples... it took 3 days to get those from her (SMH).. Then she never answered me directly on what Vitamins besides chewable to take.. I asked about flintstones chewable but she said they had to be adult flints ones.. I have never found any.. so tomorrow I am going through the bag of vitamins she sent to me..

It can be so confusing.. I read online don't take Calcium and Iron at the same time etc..

Right now I am looking at

1500mg of Calcium + Vitamin D with calcium citrate

    B Complex

    Iron

does that sound about right? I know if I go to my appointment on the 6th taking nothing she will be mad at me and i don't want to make my Dr mad at me.. but Im kind of lost.. Everyone else I know has had Bypass not the sleeve

  11. Wow! Your post-op goes fast compared to mine! Have you tried Premiere Protein? I don't know what i would have done preop without it! The Max Protein from SEI Nutrition is amazingly tasty too - neither is chalky or have an aftertaste. I'm still on Clear Liquids till tomorrow, then full liquids for a week, then mushies/purees for a week, then introduce soft, moist foods, then full foods at 5 weeks.

    Liquids

    Full Liquids

    Week 2,3,4 pureed Foods

    Week 5, 6, 7 Soft Foods

    Week 8 Reqular Diet

  12. Good Morning Sleevers! I can not believe that I was sleeved 6 days ago, I am a little lethargic at times but I contribute that to trying to do to much and only being on liquids..

I also have not found a Protein Drink that stays with me if you get my drift and I don't mean upchucking.. I have tried Chike, Isopure, Click... I have a bunch of Isopure I liked it in the beginning.. I am going to go back through them and systematically eliminate them, just in case it was a pre-op thing.. LOL though Chike is definitely out, I can't stand cold coffee therefore coffee flavors don't work for me.

Today is my last day on Full liquids then I get to have a pureed Diet, mashed potatoes never sounded so FANTASTIC.. LOL

  13. 3 More days and I will be sleeved! 2 more days and I will get a call telling me WHEN to be at the hospital..

The liquid diet is kind of rough... but I am managing through it, thanks to the encourangement on this board..

4mykids, I hope you get better soon!

Tlmiller2971 glad to hear the walking is helping the gas pain.. if it is anything like the gas pain I have experienced before (had me doubled over thinking I was going to give birth) ...

Em & Mel congrats on the post op!!

  14. I am day one of my liquid diet.. and you know what it sucks! LOL I thought I was so prepared but apparently I wasn't ready I thought I didn't need a food funeral but I feel like I should have had one.. HA HA...

My surgery is Wednesday 25 Jan and I hope I can make it through without biting the heads off of my family who have to endure grumpy me looking at them while they eat spaghetti and I sip on chicken broth.. Maybe I should get a room for the week all to myself...

Looking forward to the surgery, stocked up on Soups and broth today, went shopping for needed things for the hospital stay ... now I am just trying to occupy myself so I don't go in the kitchen and ravish the left over spaghetti.. :D Wish me Luck!

Good luck everyone, I love reading your stories successes and struggles.. It is so nice to be able to connect with people going through the same thing

  15. I have 8 days before I start my liquid diet.. What are you guys eating/drinking during your liquid diet? Did anybody cheat on it? Were you tempted?

Congratulations to everyone that has ha surgery already or will be in the next few days.. I am excited to have mine on the 25th.
