  1. I'm very glad to hear all the good comments on these doctors. My friend may not be following the rules and like you said insisting on fills. Best of luck to you all! I celebrated my 1 year bandiversary on 3/29/08. I have now lost 133 pounds. I am very close to my doctor's goal and have already met my goal. I wish everyone the best! Hang in and follow all the band rules!

  2. I am in Moulton, Al. I have a friend who used the doctors you mentioned in Guntersville. She will be 1 year out and has not lost 40 pounds. Only 2 fills and still has no restriction. I would ask questions about the kind of care they get from these doctors. I think the one that did hers actually had the surgery himself. Ask lots before making a decision. Dr. Adams in Decatur did mine but he is leaving at the end of June. Dr. Suggs in Decatur is going to do my husband's lap band in August - pending BCBS AL approval.

  3. Great to see some people from Alabama on the board. I had my Surgery in Decatur, AL on 3/29/07. I have lost 130 pounds and feel wonderful! My surgeon - Dr. Adams, is leaving town and I will be swapped over to Dr. Suggs. My husband is going through the pre-approval process with BCBS for Dr. Suggs to do his surgery. There is a support group at Parkway Hospital in Decatur on the 2nd Monday night of each month. Hope this helps!

  4. I love PVL brand in flavors Smooth Peanut Butter chocolate and Mint chocolate Chip. I order these from Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore! and also order the Davinci sugar-free syrups. My favorite is German Chocolate Cake. I use a few squirts of Syrup in my diet hot chocolate. Tastes like a warm chocolate cake and I use sugar-free whipped cream on top! Wonderful substitution for not being able to eat Desserts anymore.

  5. Definitely achievable! I have not updated my ticker, but tomorrow (3/6/08) I will Celebrate 1 year since beginning Dr. Adams liquid diet. I have lost 120 pounds. I will celebrate 1 year bandiversary on 3/29/08. What a ride this has beeen! I am still seeing lots of progress. I just had my 4th fill in February and the weight has began to fall off again. This month I have lost another 10 pounds! Hang in there gang. It is definitely worth it!

  7. I went back yesterday for a monthly check-up and they had posters on the wall and handouts telling us about lap band support group. It is the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Parkway Medical Center, 1874 Beltline Road, Decatur AL 35601. Located in the Surgical Weight Loss Center in the Pavillion. They have a number you can call for more information. 256-301-3310. Maybe this will help.

  8. I had my surgery in Decatur 3/29/07 by Dr. Adams. He no longer does the surgery, but my husband is going through the approval process with Dr. Suggs in Decatur. He really likes him. My surgery was performed at Decatur General but his will be at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. They are both great hospitals. I don't regret getting the surgery done even for one minute. I only have about 20 pounds to get to goal. I wish I could get there by my bandiversary but that may be too ambitious on my part.

  9. My hair was also coming out really bad. My stylist suggested that I try the Nioxin treatment. I purchased mine from the Smart Styles salon, which in Alabama is located inside the Walmart store. You can purchase it in many different places. My hair has been growing back so fast I have had a hair cut every 2 weeks. I don't know if everyone has this same result but it has worked for me. The stylist was joking with me and said maybe she should use it in her Water bottles to get business really booming. Hope this helps someone as much as it did me. I also take the Vitamins and the Biotin. :glasses

  10. I had gallbladder surgery in December 2006 with Dr. Adams as my surgeon. I really liked the way he explained things and worked with me. I learned about the surgery through him and liked the way he explained the benefits of lapband versus gastric bypass. I never considered anyone else. Also, I was self-pay and he had a price worked out with the hospital to make things easier for me. I hope this helps.

  11. I am so aggravated right now! I just found out that BCBS of Alabama has taken Lap-band off the investigational list. This means they will now pay for it. I spoke to one of the representatives from BCBS on the phone and they confirmed this. It was removed 10 days after my surgery was performed. It will pay for any lap band done after 4/10/07. Mine was 3/29/07. That really stinks!
