Did God make you rich?
That's a very sad testimony for that church. Very sad indeed. Thank GOD that all churches and believers are not poured from this mold.

Another stupid "Do I need a fill?" question
Sounds to me like you're definitely losing.. ALOT! Some of us tend to 'compact' then drop at once. That's not a bad thing. So maybe you need to think in terms of a month, instead of a week. How much have I lost in a month overall? Am I stalled? Am I gaining? If you are losing between 5-10lbs per month, there is really no need to restrict yourself even more. And your hunger (or lack thereof) may very well be a result of the band. It's my understanding that the band/upper pouch sitting up against the esophagus is what helps to trigger the satiety mechanism that is said to have stopped working for so many obese people (due to the stretching of the stomach, therefore this mechanism being displaced farther away). Just a thought..

Did God make you rich?
I don't think it's 'wrong' to be wealthy. I think it's how you handle it and where you think it came from. I have a friend who tells me money is like pouring water through a funnel. If God gifts you with it and you don't hoard it all to yourself, then it will continually flow through. If you hoard it and worship it, eventually the funnel is stopped up and nothing more can flow through. Sorta like the lapband.

Post surgery paranoia
Everyone goes through this initially. Don't borrow trouble. Unless you are having problems swallowing or vomiting excessively, everything is probably fine. Especially this early on. It IS possible to have slippage and have no outward symptoms. Usually this is diagnosed at the time of flouroscopy, during a fill or via a barium swallow. Just follow doctors orders for your initial diet and enjoy!

Hubby Doesn't want Wife to work
I'm so not as wordy as I used to be. Here's some hindsight, from my own experience. Never fall in love with a man's 'potential'. If he COULD do better, he would be doing it already. I was married to that man, for 20 years. He never lived up to his potential. For the record, I come from a very poor background. I am single, make decent money (not any 6 figures) and I do believe that 'poor' people need love as much as anyone and can make perfectly fine husbands and wives. Money certainly should NOT be the deciding factor. If you love the man and can live the rest of your life with him, that's what matters. If he doesn't fit the idea of what you're seeking, then I say cut him loose so he can find someone who can appreciate what he has to offer. In fact.. I'm on the market.. lol..

Anyone had slippage?
Yes. I pretty much had the same thing happen to me. Went for a fill and found that my band had slipped. I was unfilled immediately, made to wait 4 weeks, then wound up re-banded because the band never totally righted itself. There are many others who've been able to return to fills without being rebanded. Good luck!

Who do I have to thank.....
I use it too. You're right it can be addictive, but it's a great way to gather some baubles without breaking the bank!

Flip a Coin?
Very good advice, Elisabeth. Thank you for the reminder that this or any other surgery is definitely a major thing.

What would you do? One surgery or two?
Sorry you can't have them both taken care of. I had both a hiatal hernia and an umbilical hernia repaired during my last banding surgery. Neither are too terrible. Good luck!

When does the vomiting just STOP?
Yikes. I'm sorry to hear it's been so tough on you. Honestly, puking is not the 'norm' for being banded. While it is always a possibility due to being stuck from chewing too fast, taking too big of bites, drinking while eating and causing backwash, this really should not be happening on a regular basis. I really hope you get it resolved soon as it is a danger to your band (slippage) and your esophagus. Good luck!

Hubby Doesn't want Wife to work
Wished I could find one like that as well. Unfortunately, society has changed those attitudes and the cost of living isn't very encouraging either. I would personally like to go back to the 'helper' function that our creator meant for women, instead of 'breadwinner', but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I've learned the hard way
LOL, thanks for the insight. Cute. I only have one question regarding #2. "2. You really need to chew your food a whole lot. I got hungry and didn't chew enough and, boy, that hurt. It helps to wash the food down with Water." Does your doctor not require that you stop drinking before you eat and wait awhile to drink, like an hour afterwards? I only ask because it is generally the mantra of banding physicians and those who have been banded awhile. Do not drink during meals. From what I have experienced, this not only tends to wash the food on through the pouch (which defeats the purpose of the band) but also will almost certainly, at some point, cause an episode we call 'Productive burp - PB) because the stoma is too small to handle both the food your ingesting AND liquid poured in on top of it. Sort of like a funnel.. Just wondering. Thanks for the morning laugh and much good luck to you going forward!

steroid therapy and the band
NSAIDS on a regular basis are definitely a contraindication for having the lapband. It is widely suggested that they can lead to or exacerbate erosion. Please discuss this with your potential surgeon.

intense pain when I swallow...
It would be hard to speculate 'what' it might be. My advice would be to contact your doctor and let him know you're having pain at all. It may be that you need a slight unfill.

What Book Are You Reading?
The Idiots Guide to Prayer. When Christ Comes - Max Lucado One Year Bible for Women. I have SOO many books that I need to get serious about reading, but since the advent of the computer in my life, my reading has gone by the wayside. I'm working on getting back into it.

Traveling Fill Advice Needed
Lean Body has packets of Protein shakes that I carry with me when traveling. They also have pre-made 4 packs as does EAS shakes. I can see how you'd have to be very careful about the bars.

Traveling Fill Advice Needed
I'd leave it filled. Also, you can get Protein shakes in instant packages. Open and add Water. Or, often I buy Protein Bars and carry them in my bags when traveling. It's not what you'd want to eat all the time, but it could account for things like Breakfast, Snacks, etc. Have fun on your mission trip! I SO want to do that sometime.

Hi , Everyone, I'm a newbie
Hiatal hernia?? I had mine repaired during my second banding. I couldn't really tell anything different, compared to being banded the first time. Maybe my diaphragm was slightly more agitated for a slightly longer period. Hard to tell. No significant 'extra' pain to speak of. Umbilical hernia - had that repaired at the same time. Yowchy! Nothing unbearable, but it hurt much worse than the banding altogether. I wish you much luck and great success with your band! Welcome to LBT!

LBT Charlotte Bandsters Picture Thread
My plans are to fly in on Monday, June 26th. I'll be landing in Charlotte about 4pm and driving to Hickory. I don't know much about Hickory either. I've never been there before, but I'm scheduled to stay somewhere on the 13th Avenue Dr, which appears to be right off I40. I'll be staying until Friday evening and hopefully I won't be working late hours, so I'll have most evenings free (I hope). Or, we could meet up nearer to your place on my way through Monday evening. I'm pretty flexible.

You all look fantastic! So how far is Hickory from Charlotte? I'm flying into Charlotte on June 26th and working in Hickory that week. If anyone is close enough, maybe we could find time for dinner.
