  1. I make chili beans in the winter, which I love. High in protein too. But, yea, I'm like you, with the colder months I have certain foods, like homemade vegetable soup, that just seem to go with the season.
  2. Just wanted to let you know you're in my thoughts. Hoping to hear from you soon!
  3. I do believe it is because it is considered an irritant and could possibly aid in erosion. It has definitely been proven to cause gastritis in some people.
  4. Tricia, Thanks for clarifying. I do recall your posting this somewhere in the back of my mind. However, I must admit my total memory is definitely lacking in my advanced age . Seriously, I've had MRI's, EEG's, psychometric testing. It sucks, but I look better! lol.
  5. ROFLMAO!!!:laugh
  6. Darcy, Hugs to you girlfriend, been there, done that. Being un-filled is absolutely terrifying for me. The first day they un-filled me all sort of images of cheeseburgers and fries went through my head, then I just said to myself. "Stop!" I have not spent the past year trying to lose weight only to dive right back into all the foods that brought me here head first. So, what I tried to focus on was to just try to continue eating AS IF I still had my restriction. I did pretty good at that, even lost a few additional pounds while un-filled, then, on the day before I had to have surgery (in your case, being filled again) I did take myself to my local fav hamburger joint and I ordered myself the kiddie size burger, fries etc that I had coveted on the first day of being un-filled. I enjoyed it, but it was my reward for NOT having done it in the beginning and everyday in between. Now, don't get me wrong. I eat 'wrong' all the time, but the one thing I have done is to cut out all bread products, rice and Pasta. Another thing, I know it's disappointing to gain back a few lbs. I've been dealing with 5lbs since Labor Day. But, the cool part is that we still have the band. On any given day, we can begin again. This is progress, not perfection. You'll get better, then you'll just begin again. I think that's pretty awesome! So don't beat yourself up. I think it's normal to test the waters, for all of us. You're gonna do just fine!
  7. Welcome Tanise!! So great to hear veteran bandsters who've had great results! Congratulations on a job well done!
  8. Hi! My name is Leatha and I AM a Lapbandtalk addict!
  9. I would seriously ask you to consult your physicians post -op orders again. Pizza 2 weeks post-op seriously conflicts with what most docs advise. If your doc did not advise you. I would seriously consult Inamed's Patient Handbook which will definitely say no solid foods for the first 4-6 weeks. This allows your stomach to heal and the band to 'seat' itself in scar tissue which hopefully will help prevent slippage down the road. It would make sense that you aren't initially able to sleep on your tummy. You just had surgery there. It will take time to heal, but generally within the first few weeks you should be able to sleep on your side again, the full tummy may take a few weeks longer. Breathing, coughing or sneezing will stretch your diaphram which will definitely be sensitive after surgery for several weeks. All of this gets better with each passing day. Are you walking? How about a heating pad for relief? Who was your doctor again? I'm really sorry that you seem disappointed in having the band. 11 pounds in 2 weeks is very good. With the lapband, 5-10lbs a month is average. You are ABOVE average (enjoy it, this will slow down.). Were you expecting to lose like bypass patients? How long did you research before you were banded? Don't be discouraged, this is all part of the process and I promise you will feel like a new person in no time, if you just follow the rules. Take a deep breath and try to remember the reason you were banded in the first place. You'll get the hang of it, I promise. http://www.inamed.com/pdf/health/94829F_LB_Patient_Book.pdf Please check this link out for Inamed's recommendations for band care. Good luck to you!
  10. Just make sure it fits! Otherwise, you might be flashing everyone around like I did at Lisa's!!
  11. The reasoning behind this is that drinking will actually flush any food in your pouch on through, leaving room for MORE food. This will hamper your weight loss efforts allowing you to eat more. The band actually works the best by eating only enough (solids) to fill the pouch and then stopping. The longer you wait to 'wash' it through, the longer you feel satiated. I hope this helps!
  12. Good luck and speedy recovery to you! Let us know how you're doing once you feel up to it!
  13. Slight hijack! Welcome back Laserjock! LTNS. How is your wife doing?

Ain't she a doll? I just loved her! We'll all have to get together sometime, seriously.
  15. Betty, I'll be thinking of you. You have my cell phone if you need anything at all! Have a safe surgery and smooth recovery!!
  16. They should have given you a book when you had your surgery. It goes with the band. I asked my doc where mine was and he was like 'huh?'. Duh..

So.. can someone tell me the secret to changing/adding avatars now? There is an option to de-select the one you have, but no option to change or upload a new one? What gives?
  18. Some insurances do, some don't. Mostly, I think it depends on how they are coded and whether it paid for your surgery or not. In my case, my doc has a deal where any care within the first 3 months after surgery is considered part of the deal, after that, we'll see. My insurance DID pay with my first band.
  19. Pizza, two weeks after surgery? This is pretty scary. Did someone tell you that you need to follow a diet of liquids, then mushies for the first 4-6weeks? This is so that your band can heal in place to help prevent slippage later. I would definitely forego the pizza or any other heavy solids for at least a while. And, well.. I hate to tell you (cause I'm sure you know) but Pizza is not really very band/weight loss friendly food.
  20. October 5th is only just over 2 weeks ago. Sheesh! The average weight loss for the lapband is 5-10 lbs per month. You are well within that range. The RNY would have gone very much faster, and you'd be a heck of a lot less healthy too. You're right on target!
  21. I just noticed Penni and Marie(NewHope) have become moderators. Congrats!!
  22. Welcome to the board, CissyLea!! Please do read all you can. There are some great posts both here and other places online. The one bit of advice I can give you is please do not only seek the cheapest and whatever you do, have your follow up care ready and waiting BEFORE you are banded. This is so important. Do not wait, hoping you can find someone later. I wish you great success on your journey!
  23. I too have been a slow loser. 55 was my 1 yr weight loss too, but that is 55 I sure wouldn't have lost without this band. Megan, I am so proud of you! You are such a beautiful spirit and it just shines right through! I am so blessed to have met you in person and saw firsthand that beautiful smile and flashing eyes that say so much about who you have become. Isn't it wonderful to be glad you're among the living? Thank you for sharing such personal thoughts with us. Congratulations on an awesome year!
