I have diabetes and I am scheduled for the sleeve in Jan. My doctor never mentioned to me that the bypass was better than the sleeve for diabetes; BUT my friend who has diabetes that is not control currently was told the bypass would be the best option for her AND we go to the same doctor. I have an appointment with the doctor next week after my pre op testing is done and I am going to ask him why he told my friend that see should think about the bypass because of her diabetes. My diabetes is controlled now with medication but I am worried about down the road and years to come if my diabetes will get worse. I have a strong family history of diabetes. I do not want the bypass but I also do not want diabetes anymore.

Hi, I just switched my date from Nov. 28 to Jan. 16. Doc. says you need to rest for about 4 weeks to heal, there is no way I will rest in Dec. (who does?). Is there a January sleevers group yet?
-
Hi, Sad to say but I am moving to the Jan. sleevers (If a group exists) I changed my date from Nov. 28th to Jan.16. Just way to busy in Dec to rest like the doc wants.

Hi, I am in the same boat with getting sleeved around the holidays. I will actually be on my Pre-op diet during Thanksgiving. I am the one who make the Turkey for our family. I am alittle nervous about it but determined to get sleeved. I will be interested in what others have to say about being sleeved around the holidays.

You have a great outlook!!!! Just reading your post one can see your determination and excitement. Have a GREAT surgery tomorrow and I will be praying for you. I get sleeved next month.

I would like to thank everyone who wrote about their surgery! I am getting sleeved Nov. 28 and I really enjoyed reading everyone's post. The majority are doing fabulous! I am also sad to hear about the people that are not having an easy time. I am glad you all have reponded to the Poll. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I was wondering how long does the Protein Powder last when you are having 3 shakes a day. I know it all depends on the serving size, but in general.
-
Yea!!! I found somebody getting sleeved the same day as me!!!!! Do you have to do a 2week diet? Starting on the 14?
-
That is a good question. I am waiting for people to reply.

I will be getting the gastric sleeve next month. I went to a support group meeting last week and met 3 people that had the gastric sleeve. They were all around a year or alittle less post op and their caloric intake is between 1200-1400. All have lost significant amounts of weight. Hope this helps.

Hi, I am glad this subject came up and the responses are wonderfully well- put to, to ease our anxieties. I am scheduled to have the gastric sleeve next month and my anxieties get higher each day until I found thisforum. My cousin who had the Lap Band has gone through the same worries around 6 mos post op. It maybe fairly common to have these post op worries, but when we have a worry this is a great support system which is at our finger tips!

Hi, I just got some samples of Protein Powder shakes from my nutritionist, all have artifical sweeteners. I am just learning about Protein Shakes and trying them out since I will start my 2 week pre-op diet next month. Any suggestions. I mixed the samples with Water. nectar Fuzzy Navel, Nectar chocolate Truffle- yuck!!! I do not tolerate any artifical sweeteners.

I just got some samples of Protein shakes for my nutritionist. I tried Nectar- Fuzzy Navel- Yuk, but it did taste better if you get it cold first. This morning I tried nectar chocolate Truffle, not too bad but it has splenda in it. Splenda upset my stomach. I will be on a two week pre-op diet. I will start that on Nov. 14th. I am like you.... so excited and nervous. Lots of Anxiety.
I will be in the hospital until Friday. I have not tried any Protein Shakes yet. What have you tried so far? How much of a pre op diet do you have to do? My doc said one week but I may start the 1st of November just to be safe. I am so excited and nervous!!!!

1 day after mine! I am on a Monday and yours is on a Tuesday. How long did your doc. say you will be in the hospital? Mine told me 4 days. Have you started sampling Protein shakes. I have tried two. Yucky, so far. I am glad I have someone very close to my date now to chat with.
Mine is the 29th. Dr. Aceves.

Wow, I am so glad to hear how well your numbers went down following surgery, clk and Kemo46! That really encourages me! I am on 1000mg of Metformin daily and look forward to the day I will not take it anymore. My surgeon told me that I will stop the Metformin right before surgery and will not be put back on it after surgery; because the success rate is so high for controlling the diabetes. I am glad both of you posted, makes my day
