  1. Hello hello!

I was banded Wednesday November 2!

Each day has been better and better. The feeling of "wtf did I just do??" only lasted about 20 hours.

My upper stomach is still tight/sore (where the incisions are) but nothing too bad elsewhere.

I accidentally ordered 6 packs of gas-x thin strips from amazon..oops.

IF anyone wants em for FREE please message me your address and I'd be happy to pop a pack in the mail for ya!

I'm on full liquids and it's going find and dandy..EXCEPT I hate Protein powders and shakes. Blech.

That's about it for now, good luck everyone!! B)

  2. I feel your pain. I hate ALL of them. The taste, smell & consistency. I have ordered online and stalked the GNC store and still..nothing I can even ALMOST like.

OK seriously, I can't find any I like. I have the unjury and the taste is great, but the smell is horrible. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to smells. Like seriously, I should be studied. It's that bad. Smell determines EVERYTHING for me, even my mood. I know I am weird. All of these Protein shakes have that Protein smell or whatever it is and I can't stand it. The smell makes me nauseous. I almost threw up earlier, not because I was drinking too fast or had the wrong thing, but because of the smell. I am still nauseous from it. Honestly, if this is how this is going to be, I have to find an alternative to these Protein Shakes. I understand the importance of protein, but is there any way around this? Ive spent a lot of money trying different kinds and can't find anything. I even spent $70 on unflavored so I could put it in food. I can still smell it!!!

    Help!!!!

  3. I had mine done yesterday at around 8:15AM. Arrived at hospital around 5:45AM. Prepped and ready by 7:45.

Stayed overnight. Had the pain pump until 8AM this morning. It was fine but made me feel really loopy.

I have moderate discomfort in my stomach and have some difficulty getting in/out of bed.

I was walking around after surgery yesterday, ate broth/jello in the evening and Jello before I left hospital today.

At home I have had only Water and carnation instant Breakfast.

I'm ordering a heading pad and more gas-x thing strips from Amazon. I didn't realize you take 1-3 for each dose.

I will say I underestimated the amount of pain/discomfort I would feel. I assumed I'd be all up and about by today for sure. This is not the case!!

Good luck to everyone with surgeries coming up!!

  4. My primary physician is the EXACT same. I brought up surgery to him a few times in the last couple years and was shot down each time. SO I found my own lap band doctor and went through them. I was lucky because I had already been on Phentermine through a weight center so I had the 6 months supervised weight loss.. I didn't need my primary for anything except a couple weeks ago when I got my pre-op tests (EKG, physical and chest x-ray). He asked me what surgery I was having and I told him..he didn't have too much to say except my surgeon was a good one.

I guess it's different if you need a referral? I'm not sure how those things work since I have an open access health insurance plan.

When I needed xanax or paxil he told me to "relax and try yoga". Yeahhhh thanks. <_<

  5. I was almost an October bandster for a hot minute. My surgeon scheduler called me yesterday and asked if I wanted to come on October 31 (they had a cancellation).. I called back to say I *could* do it but I'd really rather stick to my Wednesday November 2 date (I planned everything around going be out of commission as of that date and not before)..she said they had moved some people around so it was my choice.

    Still a November Bandster! Woot.

I plan on having one last hurrah with some crispy, hard bread next weekend. (no pre-op diet restrictions. Bread has and probably always will be a trigger food for me, so I plan on just staying away from it post-band.

  6. That is so great!

Even crazier we are the same age and almost same height -ya got an inch on me ;)

Since joining derby I have been up and down weight-wise. I believe at my lightest I was around 215?

Imagining dropping serious pounds will help with speed/endurance (which are my biggest issues).

Jamming has always been a bit of a dream for me and when I DO jam I wrecking ball into people and go to the box, ha.

I'm still in the "band closet"..haven't told anyone except my brother and husband. Taking about a week off work then doing office/easy stuff for a couple weeks.

Are you on NoVa? I'm with Key City (part of a split from Mason-Dixon over the summer and formed a new league in Frederick)

I volunteer for DC sometimes and go to most of their home bouts.

    So awesome to "meet" you!

  7. I've been wondering the EXACT same thing!

Small, small world to meet another derby gal here  AND one that is kind of close (I'm in MD!)

My band date is coming up on November 2nd and I told my league I'll be on medical LOA for a few weeks.

I have brought up skating/derby with my doctor and nutritionist but they don't really know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty scared of getting the port hit hard.

So you felt that good a week'ish later?? That's awesome. I was so afraid I'd be off skates for at least a month or so.

    Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any other derby girl bandsters out there. If so, how has your post-op skating gone? I was banded on Sept. 20 of this year and (naughty me) started skating again about a week and half later. I am trying, however, to watch core exercise for a couple more weeks and am still taking it easy on wheels.

Any advice for getting back on the track? I've got jammer dreams for this time night year! ;)
