A Slow Loss Is Still A Loss ;)

I am right there with you! It seems like the scale is moving slowly but look at how much smaller your clothing is already. I really realize it when I am folding laundry. You have made fantastic progress and you look great. I was sleeved 2 days before you and our numbers are pretty much the same. I have those really snug 12's hanging in the closet and I know I will be in them in a couple more weeks.
  2. Congrats! The personal milestones make it more real.
  3. That was my first major goal. I hoped to reach it by Christmas and I did last week. Between that and going down another size in pants, it has been a great week. I still wish the scale would move a bit faster but there is only so much I can do to. My body is going to lose at its own pace. I look in the mirror and am amazed at the difference in my face. Now if only my hair would stop falling out. I swear I am going to be bald soon.

    Anyone with UHC and JPMC?

Congratulations! I just bought size 14 jeans too. I was really happy because I didn't really think they would fit yet. Helped cheer me up a bit.

    NSV shout outs

I take my NSV's when ever I can since the scale moves so slowly for me. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to purchase size 14 jeans last week. Not 14W, but regular Levi's 14's (I swear Levi's run just a tad bit smaller than other brands) I even bought a pair of skinny jeans. The smile was plastered on my face. I have donated all of my old clothes, 2X tops and pants that were 20-22's. My closet is so empty and so is my dresser. The 16's I bought 2 months ago are going to a friend next week. I can't remember the last time I wore a Large anything.

    Metabolism- Eating 3x A Day Or 6x A Day?

I wasn't getting enough calories in with 3 meals per day. I went to 4 after talking with my surgeons office. They agreed I needed more calories or my body was going to stay in starvation mode. Even with 4 meals a day it is still hard to get 1000 calories a day.
  8. I've was sleeved on 9/12 and I've lost a total of 56.4 pounds including pre-op.

Is My Weight Loss Too Slow?

I am just a bit ahead of where you are in the weight loss department. I was sleeved on 9/12. As of today I am down 56.4 pounds from the start of my journey in January. Since I started my pre-op diet I am down 41 pounds. The last 2 weeks I have started to see the weight come off faster now that I am trying to increase my calorie consumption. I was eating 3 meals a day, focusing on lean protein and only averaging about 600 calories a day and my body was in starvation mode and holding on to everything it could which meant my weight loss was SLOW! I mean 1-2 pounds a week if I was lucky. I am trying to get 1000 calories a day, eating four meals, spreading out my protein more so I can eat other foods as well. Amazingly, it is working. I can't exercise too much because it just defeats my extra calorie intake. It is hard for me to get in the extra calories but I am working on it.
  10. I was an 8W and am not a 7.5M which I was after my first daughter was born and I was much thinner. Hopefully my foot won't get much smaller but I love the fact I can wear all the cute trendy shoes now since most of them didn't come in a wide width.

    Slow weight loss

I am in my early 40's and 8 weeks post-op tomorrow. I am really struggling mentally with that damn scale. It it moving at a turtles pace. I can rationalize it in my head all day long but that really doesn't help. I am trying to stay positive and be happy with 2-3 pounds a week on average. I try to look at the way clothing fits, actually size I now wear. I was a solid 20 before surgery and I am not a solid 16. To be able to buy non-plus sized clothing is a major pick-me-up for me. I still wish the scale would move faster. I have lost about 25 pounds since surgery and about 50 since I have started this journey with my 6 month supervised diet. The weight is coming off and the inches are melting away. It is just going to take me longer to meet my goals...unfortunately.
  12. I am post op day 7 and according to my Dr's office have moved to soft solids. On them for the next 7 weeks. My doctor is Dr. Hoehn at KC Bariatric and they just redid all their guidelines. I was on clear liquids for 2 days, soups/puree's for 4 days and now soft foods. Scrambled eggs, turkey deli meat, tuna, cottage cheese, string cheese, soft veggies. All things I would have normally eaten at any given point in time. The protein drinks are to be consumed as needed to meet the protein requirement. I can't tell you have happy I am to need to be able to chew something since I haven't had anything in three weeks. My liver reduction diet was 3-4 protein drinks a day for 2 weeks. That was it. That was hard but I had a textbook surgery so no complaints.

    3rd week and stalle

I am finally getting out of that stall. It started at three weeks and I only lost about a pound a week for over 2 weeks. Just this past week the scale has started moving again. Thanks to everyone here I realize how normal that was. What got me through it was taking my measurements instead. I was still losing inches even though the scales wasn't budging. And my clothes were getting bigger. During the stall I had to get new jeans because my old "skinny" ones were way too big. Hang in there. The scale will start moving again.
  15. In all my documentation from my surgeon and nutritionist, it only talks about getting 60-70 grams of Protein a day. Over all caloric intake is not discussed anywhere. I am in the dreaded week three stall and am trying really hard not to let it go to my head. Really struggling with this so I am trying to focus on other things. I know I can pretty much get the protein in but don't know if I'm actually getting enough calories. Any one know what the total fat grams per day target should be? I see carbs should 50 grams or less. What about sugar? I try to avoid it over all but sometimes it can't be avoided. Thanks for your help. This site is a very valuable tool.

    JEWELRY DURING SURGERY

I was able to keep my nose piece in. I signed a form saying I knew the risks, which by the way are almost non existent. With surgical stainless steel or titanium piece there is really little risk at all. The excuse of interfering with equipment is like sayiny anyone with a knee of hip replacement or any thing else like that will interfere with all future surgeries. There is a minimal risk the cautery could jump to the metal but very unlikely. My surgical nurse and anestesiologist both rolled their eyes at me having to sign the form. Oh I was also able to keep a couple fresher cartilage piercings when I have my hysterectomy done several years ago.

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon

Dr. Stanley Hoehn, KC Bariatric Shawnee Mission Medical Center Both the hospital and office staff were extremely nice and helpful. I have been very pleased. As for cost, we reached our out of pocket deductible early in the year when one of my kids was hospitalized for several days. We had no out of pocket cost. However I have seen what the charges submitted to insurance are and they are pushing $40,000 however my insurance company has paid about $20,000. I know Dr. Hoehn's office has self pay discounts.
  19. My doctor's office just switched to these new guidelines. Mainly they found people were cheating and there were no ill effects so they went back and did some tweaking. I am on regular soft foods till 8 weeks. Fish, deli meat, eggs, canned chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. After that complete regurlar food.

    IVF

Libby, IVF is really a roller coaster of a journey. I think more so than my weightloss journey. I lost both of my tubes to ectopic pregnancies and IVF was our only option. We were fortunate to do a cycle 11 years ago that resulted in my 10 year old twin girls. I also have a 20 year old daughter. Our fertility struggles were extremely hard to cope with after all the losses that I suffered after my oldest was born. I would be happy to talk to you, answer any questions I can. Good luck with your journey.

    What is considered Failure??

It sounds like the "supervised" diet you are doing with your primary will cover you. It is within the last two years. I wouldn't lose too much weight during that time because like you said you don't want them to deny you because you were able to do it on your own. However, 15-20 pounds is not going to dramatically change your BMI. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you with CIGNA.
  23. Sampled all those and every other variety available with whey isolate protein. I found the Bariatric Fusion to be the most pallatable. I did find a few of the nector ones to be okay...no fruit flavored ones. My surgeons office actually carries it but it can also be ordered online at bariatricfusion.com.

    New Here

Hi Everyone. I have spent some time this morning reading your stories and am so happy for all of you, progressing/reaching your goals. My surgery was Monday 9/12 and I am really ready for this part of the journey. I started with my seminar in 12/2010 and had to do a 6 month supervised diet before getting approval. My biggest fear is that this will not ultimately work. I hope that with the support of all of you here I will be able to get past the hurdles and stumbling blocks that I know are ahead of me.
