I added Metamucil to my water and that helped. Also, i stewed prunes and drank the juice. That really worked well. You may need a softener afternso many days

    Bubbletoes...love the optimism
  5. It is a never ending battle. Not really different from what,we knew before surgery. Only then we forever worked to get under 200. Now i work to STAY under 200. I am told i am doing o.k. i do not have any confidence that i have control. Thing is, people without weight histories such as ours tell me THEY have the same struggle. We just are not used to it. So from this standpoint it mak3s the surgery a good idea because i have been able to accomplish things i could not at 428. From tying shoes to sitting in an airplane seat. From walking dogs to exploring castles. Without the vsg i wouldnt have considered trying.
  6. Jlburger...wow talk about stress. I know u want to be there and healthy for your girls when hospitalization is finished. Just noticing that i are a bit out of control helps. Maybe it can help u realize that you need to make the right choices when overindulging...like lite cheese sticks and veggies. Or nuts with 60% dark chocolate bits...so at least you won't be adding insult to injury. Controlling yourself for the girls will send positive messages about future to them. What do u think?
  7. You are reading the wrong posts here. We are all way past the first year. Our gains mean something different from yours. Your gain is just an anomaly stemming from the body adjusting after surgery. You didnt gain anything really. Hang in there. Stick with sleevers who share your surgery date. You will find similar no worry experiences. U dont get yo panic til waaaaay later.

What are the calories and carbs?
  10. Lexiema...i often find myself gourging but i think the differences are: i gourge on LOW or NO carbs...and 2. I do exercise regularly. I do NOT believe the stretched stomach because i have felt restrictions too after gorging. Advice? Easy...put ALL carbs in garbage dispoal. Eat only what remains. Don't drink and eat and do drink at every opportunity lIquids with NO CALORIES. my cardio said he dont care if i bounce from 188 to 200. I am mostly at 194. Good luck

I had the sleep study and had apnea bad b4 my surgery. I just had the oximetry test and think i blew it because the cytomel im on now caused bad cramps and left me gasping in pain. But point i want to make...u can have bad apnea and still have surgery. That wont stop them from going forward.
  14. Oregon, former vbg i hate to say it but in the "misery loves company" category i DO sincerely appreciate that you share your burdens and stories. I am bouncing between 188 and 200. I am doing all the right things as well. My ankle is killing me from all the exercise and i get knots from musvle cramps when i do it. But i havent let that deter me. Yes, i dispair. Right now the ENT wants a biopsy of my epiglotis. No one told me that the gluey throat sensation is a symptom of acid reflux! Thats why i stopped Nexium which killed bowel control and cost me 3 pair of sneakers...and finslly when i went to ENT he told me our surgery causes that gunky gluey stuff. Now on protonix brand name stuff and that does not cause bowel issues.

Toler48 the surgery wont stop u from gaining. Ive been sidelined with arthritis in ankle and back and other surgerues during these years since my vsg. Eachbtime i have fained and struggled without exercise to get back on track. Ive succeeded but u should never think because u had the surgery that u can 'relax' your vigilance. We can...and DO gain weight.

Woo woo...if i could've weighed 150 8 months after my surgery, i wouldn't have had surgery. Am i misinterpreting messages? It seems like thinner people are having surgery. I always thought it was for those of us who were morbidly obese. Not that i deny anyone anything...

Get the chewables or liquids ...its just for the first 6 months or so and we dont have the malabsorption problems from bypass. Most surgeons push the Vitamins anyway in the beginning so do what they say until you can see the lab results. I stopped the b12 immediately dinxe it was in the 1500s! And am now taking a solid Centrum, a liqid Calcium cuz i dont like swallowing horse sized pills ...i use bluebonnet. ..and a d3 chewable ...also bluebonnet...and a chewable probiotc . I get the bluebonnets from whole foods. ..could possibly find them online cheaper but am lazy The amt of sorbitol u will ingest after 6 mos isnt enuf to worry about. You got bigger fish to fry...

Cococat...they told me the same. I insisted on vsg. Later surgeon said had i asked for bypass he wouldn't have done ANY surgery on me. I just lucked into the best option. Stick to yous guns. If u like raw food and esp veggies u can have them after vsg

The worst part of the entire process from start to finish IMHO was the leak test prior to being discharged. Everything else: all the fear of having to answer difficult. questions [and you CAN say "i dont feel comfortable talking about that"], torture from the insurance co., needless waiting, condescension worry about having put together a supportive team blah blah fades away when it comes down to swallowing that crap for the contrast. If the tech had not told me how unpleasant it was going to be, i probably would've downed it without thinking twice. But the answer came right afterwards that all was o.k. whew. Get there and. Get over it and dont look back. Good luck.

Its mindboggling and i think they do it just to get us riled up. Hartfird told me i am NOT COVERED BY ANYONEZ AND it doesn't matter what the insurance pole tell me. I MUST get the more invasive procedure. Yale told me oh my your ins7rance is golden. You can have whatever you want and then offered only the bypass. No thanks i will pay for VSG. Bingo, they are funding the whole thing. Duh

Bubbletoes...the board is historically quiet. But when people need something specific, someone always seems to respond. I was 66 when i got my sleeve in 2011. This past week holiday brought me 10 lbs but im down 2.5 from that. Whatever, we wont steer u wrong. Its gonna be a struggle but the first year or two should be a real gift to yourself. Be determined to enjoy it!
  24. Excellent advice. That's just the way it is. I am also struggling with passover carbs and this year, for the first time, gave into it. Am up five lbs. On the down side now.
  25. Question is: qhy eat any of it. All those carbs turn to sugar and we crave sugar. If u dont touch it, you go back into ketosis and lose weight. I nevet was told to have shakes. In fact, i was told to eat protien and avoid liquids with calories. All liquids with calories. I cheat on baby carrots and cheese. Humus, sugar snap peas, ice pops Nuts.... I hope you can get a handle on this again.
