  1. I hear you on the omeprezole. Didn't do squat for me either. Thanks for the tips! I'll try taking it tomorrow morning and see how it goes.
  2. I kept all my belongings with me in the hospital. There was nowhere to lock them up, but I really wasn't worried about theft. As for food at the hotel, I wasn't in the mood to eat anything, and I had brought my own herbal teas and clear Protein drinks. I did trek to a convieniece store and got a Popsicle and Water one day. I went alone and felt totally safe. Your driver, ricardo will pick and drop you off and he is awesome. I had no problems and I'm looking at going back to Mexico in a year or so or plastics....

    When Does It Get Better?

BTW, I also had a bad gurgling tummy and heartburn really bad too. My turnaround was around mid month when I started taking zantac for the acid. The acid was causing me to feel like I had a burning bubble stuck in my chest. I had been popping tums like crazy, and then I read that if you overdo the tums, you can actually cause kidney stones...so anyway....if you feel like you have acid reflux or heartburn try a PPI or OTC acid reducer. That may help with some tummy issues......

    When Does It Get Better?

I'm a month out today, and I feel 110% better than I did when I first got out of surgery. I also thought WTH did I do to myself. But, tonight I had some pasta and chicken for supper, crackers and soft cheese for lunch, and yogurt for breakfast. I've been trying to be faithful with my protien drinks, but I do struggle with them. I'm very very sick of them. My turn around was when I got off the liquids and moved on to the pureed/mashed foods. I had a hard time to feeling like I had alot of air and gas stuck in my tummy. Try sucking on popsicles rather than trying to swallow juice or water. I also bought an ice cream maker and made protein ice cream. Very easy to do, and its kind of fun to make My energy totally picked up once I was off the liquid diet and starting to get some nourishment in with real food. It's a learning process trying to figure out how much to drink, how much to chew, what to eat, what you can't eat, etc. But the reward is soooooo worth it! Only a month out and I haven't felt and looked so good in years! I love my sleeve, and you will too, it just takes a couple of weeks to get used to it. :biggrin5:
  6. My first soft food was a scrambled egg and it was soooo good..... Until I got the slimes, etc. I havent tried an egg since. Almost one month out now, and things are going down much better, and in much smaller quantities. I love having this restriction. It really is all about learning how to eat and what to eat.
  7. I've been drinking coffee and tea for the past week or so. I can only drink about a 1/4 of a cup. I'm Canadian and I need my Timmy's! I think the big concern early out is that caffeine can dehydrate you. I just make sure I drink an extra glass of water after having my coffee or tea. No problems so far, and I feel much more like my old self
  8. Ive been breaking out pretty bad too....I think it's just our bodies way of getting rid of the junk that's still in the body. From what I've read on here it's just a phase, and this too shall pass!
  9. I had the same thing last night. I was up for about 3 hrs and every time I laid down I had to run back to the bathroom. It started with the slimes again, then vomiting. I feel ok today, but I've been having some major heartburn/acid issues since the surgery. I take zantac in the morning and at night and it's been working... Although I feel like I haven't been eating as much as I should and I know that most days I don't drink as much as I should. I find I often forget to eat because I'm pretty busy at work or with the kids. Hopefully this was just a one time thing because I had to call into work today...I lost my voice from throwing up all night I making an effort today to get in lots of fluids.
  10. This may be TMI for some people, but this is my first time getting major slimes. Well, I came home from work tonight, and was actually hungry because I kind of forgot to eat all day....so I thought I'd try to eat a scrambled egg. Well, it tasted sooooo good! I ate the whole egg. After my last bite I knew immediatly that I had overdone it. About 10 minutes later I got the worst pain in my chest, felt like I had heartburn and got the infamous slimes!!! I thought ok, this is gonna pass, but it didn't. Had the slimes for about 45 mins....then got sick So, needless to say no more eggs for me for awhile. And I have to make sure I'm getting food in, as it's so easy to not eat now.
  11. zantac is my new best friend:)

  12. I never had a special chair or anything, but I think a recliner is a great idea! I mostly stayed in bed for the first week, with the exception of walking around, etc. I had pillows propped up all around me so I wouldn't roll onto my stomach. A body pillow is a good investment..... you can buy them cheap from walmart
  13. I also had my surgery at a low bmi with Dr. Kelly. I also had a male doctor try to talk me out of the surgery..... I stuck to my guns and told him that I was not going to struggle for the rest of my life. I was pretty snooty to him and he took the hint and left the room after he was done his tests. He didn't stick around and shoot the breeze with me as he did with the other ladies that were down there around the same time as me. Dr. Kelly was great, and I think he is probably one of the best VSG surgeons out there, but I also think there are some communication issues between the hospital staff, the other doctors and Dr. Kelly. If you have your heart set on Dr. Kelly, just call his office. Most of us have his email address and office phone number.
  14. Are you ready for the next food stage? How about trying some soft cheese or cottage cheese in the blender? I also bought some flavored greek yogurt and sugar free yogurts. I feel better now that I'm getting "real food" in. I was also feeling pretty tired too..... Hope you feel better soon!
  15. this heartburn is making me crazy!

    Nov. 14

Today is your surgery day! Update us with how things went once you feel up to it, and who your surgeon is. Welcome to the losers bench!! Congratulations!
  19. I had a similiar situation after my c-section. I was given demerol, and after being home a couple of days broke out in an itchy rash. Calomine lotion and benedryl took it away. Since then, anytime I have had a surgical procedure I make sure to tell them not to give me demerol..... To be on the safe side though checking with a doctor, even at a walk in clinic is probably a good idea. Hope you feel better soon;)
  20. Bought an Ice Cream maker to make some Protein Icecream! I have to find a way to get this protein in. Can't stomach the shakes.

When to give up Diet pop?

I think cold turkey is your best bet.... I've never been a huge soda pop drinker, but what about trying to drink it flat? I think the huge issue after surgery is the carbonation.

    One week post-op and miserable

i would suggest possibly seeing your doctor and maybe getting an anti inflammatory for your swollen stomach. The doctor gave me a shot and I've been much better since. I\m only one week out too, and I can't drink Protein Drinks at all yet. Clear fluids still for me....chicken broth, lipton cup of Soup, peppermint tea and lemon tea. Those have been soothing and will keep your fluids up. SF Popsicles have been a blessing. If you are concerned about your Protein, try Isopure, but I suggest diluting it, because it's very sweet.

    Dr Kelly

I agree. It sounds like all the co-ordinators actually work under the same umbrella. I had a question, which I directed to my co-ordinator Chrisit, and Linda at a lighter me, addressed it. As well, for payment, I had to send it to Sandy, even though I went through Christi. In the end, its all about your surgeon....
