  1. That is awesome news, Rhonda! Way to go. I just got back from my 2 week check-up with my doctor and he said things are looking good. He also said to remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint. I need to keep telling myself that information as I keep thinking I should lose weight faster.

My journey started out on November 16, 2010. That day - I went for my initial consultation and I weighed a whopping 400.6 pounds. How embarrassing to let myself get that heavy. I had to wait until the hospital that I was having surgery at was fully accredited before my insurance would cover my surgery. I waited (and thought a lot) until the middle of July to hear that the clinic was finally done with their accredidation and I could schedule my surgery. My surgery was set for August 31, 2011. The day before surgery, I saw my surgeon and my weight was at 381.8 (thanks to the pre-op diet!). Today, my weight was 366.8. I have a long ways to go - but I know I have a lot of support - with my friends and family and also my new friends on this site!

  2. Good luck to you Kate and Melissa. You will be successful. You just have to believe in yourselves like I believe in you. I lost 20 pounds on the pre-op diet and was sleeved on 8/31/11. Choosing to have surgery isn't giving up. You are just adding a tool to help you lose that weight. As far as people not understanding why you are choosing to have surgery - maybe if they'd walk in your shoes for a couple of days, they'd understand. You are doing this for you. Not for anyone else.
