  1. The difference between POD 5 & 6 is amazing! Drinking more water, eating real food. Much less restriction.

  2. scrambled eggs never tasted SO GOOD!

  3. Wish I could figure out and differentiate all these new sensations I have. Pressure, tightness, burning....all that come and go. Sometimes related to eating, sometimes two hours later. Sometimes when I change positions. I'm POD 6 and I find I'm feeling tighter and feel like drinking less. Frustrated. I see the NP tomorrow morning.

    What Do They Mean?

She thinks most of what I am feeling is heartburn. Gave me a script which I should have received in the hospital. They are advancing my diet to pureed. No worries on their end. In fact, I woke up feeling a lot better this morning.

    What Do They Mean?

I am on full liquids until Friday. Even small sips feel like a challenge sometimes.
  6. I will also add that I'm experiencing a lot of heartburn-type symptoms. Most of the time it's hours after eating.
  7. I'm POD #4 and feeling pretty good. I do have some GI gas, but mainly due to lots of dairy in my diet right now. My port site is sore. I had my gallbladder removed at the same time and that hurts more than anything. I'm on full liquids until Friday. I'm definitely starting to desire and crave real food. I can tolerate about 6-8 oz soup at mealtime. Today I had hubby get me soup from subway and blended it with some skim milk. It was SO flavorful compared to everything else. I'm really trying to listen to my stomach and know when I'm full. Sometimes I don't know until I stand up and feel really full.
  8. I have a 25 pound 15 month old toddler who wants to be held. I was told nothing over 10# for 1-2 weeks. I have help for the first week, bit the second is iffy. When did you start picking up your kids and feel comfortable with it? Btw...it's killing me not to hold him.

Just Had My Gallbladder Removed! Ouch!

I had both surgeries done at the same time. I do feel like I am experiencing more pain than the average bandster.
  11. Sissy: my belly is like clockwork. Right at that 3-4 hour timeframe, my belly starts grumbling and growling and I know it's time to eat. I did finally take another dose of Lortab this morning because I was so sore. No nausea!
  12. Thank you, wanna! I do think it was the pain meds that made me vomit. I've been using my incentive spirometer religiously since surgery.
  13. I'm taking liquid Lortab for pain control. I've had a few nasty headaches today that I can't get rid of. Has anybody else experienced this? I don't want to take any more pain medicine because now it's in a vicious circle. I need help!

    Rebound Headaches

I am on day 3 post op now. The Lortab would knock me out, but then I'd wake up with a crushing headache. To top that off, I know I'm not drinking enough fluids because I'm sleeping so much. I decided not to take any more Lortab and see how it goes. I'm a little sore this morning, but no headache. I think I'll stick to plain Tylenol. Do you crush yours or are you able to swallow them whole?

    Wheres My June Bandsters??

lauralou: I don't have a great explanation as to why you are gaining weight other than your body is adjusting to this new routine. Try not to get caught up in the early numbers. You'll start losing when you're on solids, most likely. I weighed myself this morning after surgery and I gained 10 pounds! All fluids, no doubt....but scary to see on the scale.

Why Cant I Lay On My Side?

My port and largest incision is on the right side. Im only first day post op, but it is painful to lay on that side. I feel a lot of pulling even on the left side. I've been shifting my hips to tilt and put a pillow behind my back for support.

    Wheres My June Bandsters??

Checking in: The operation was smooth. My surgeon said there very little fat on my liver and other organs, which makes me so happy. He took my gallbladder out first then the band. I'm having more pain on my right side. Something to do with an extra stitch. I had bad muscle spasms earlier, but with a little dilaudid IV, it was controlled. My fluid intake has been slow. I feel really tight in the chest when I drink. I've been up twice to walk around the unit...getting ready for the third. I didn't sleep well last night (no surprise) so it will be bedtime for me I think. Good luck to tomorrow's bandsters!

    Grocery List

Those items were suggested to me by my bariatric team. They specify it can be either regular, 98% fat free, or Healthy Request. The drinkable yogurt is Dannon Light n' Fit Carb and Sugar Control. And the sugar-free carnation instant breakfast is used for making "power milk" with dry milk and skim milk. My daily protein goal is 60-80g. Thank you for reminding me of the fiber supplement. That was listed on the next stage.
