  1. Hey Dave, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write such a detailed note, it is very much appreciated and I will follow your instructions as you clearly have made this work. Won't be long and you will be at your target so I take my hat off to you. All the best, Gary
  2. Glad to hear it went well for you. Hope we can keep in touch and pass on any advice. All the best, Gary
  3. Eric, I assume you are now a banded-bloke. Hope it went well and looking forward to hearing you are fit and well and how it went. Gary
  4. You are quite right, I'm in the zone so let the fun begin!
  5. Yes, I agree looking forward to a new lease of life. BTW, I have spent about 4 hours trying to work out how to get my ticker to show on my posts and still it elludes me. Is there an idiots guide?
  6. Hi Dave, 119lbs in 8 months is hugely impressive, you must be over the moon. For us new bandees, what would be your top 3 pieces of advice? I'd love to hear that. Gary
  7. Wise words indeed my friend. liquids start tomorrow and I am not at all looking forward to it but I have got to stick to it. I guess its all about thinking about what life will be like when mobility and fitness become the order of the day and being able to buy regular brands. I mentioned to my wife how much we wee going to save on food and she suggested much more will be spent on a new wardrobe so bring it on! I live for starvation!
  8. Fantastic, I hope it goes well and I'll look forward to hearing how it goes.
  9. Hope you are bearing up well on week 2. I'm wondering what to do with eating tomorrow given its my last day of real food before the hard work starts. It feels like the last supper request of the condemmed man! Keep in touch.

  11. I start my 2 week pre op diet on Wednesday. 200ml Fruit Juice, small Porridge, 1pt semi skimmed milk, 400ml soup, 150g low fat yogurt, 150g custard, plus as much tea, coffee, sugar free diluting juice and sugar free jelly (jello). That takes me right up to the operation. No protien shakes or anything like that. Surgery in UK so maybe a bit different.
  12. Excellent, the exercise thing is probably a good shout, it may keep the mind focussed. I was quite pleasantly surprised by my pre op diet, not as brutal as I expected. Fruit juice, porridge, milk, home made soup, yogurt, custard.....not too bad. Nothing to get your teeth in but all in a good cause. Lets see how much we lose in the next 2 weeks!

I'm glad to have found the site as I don't know anyone who has had a band and it is good to hear how everyone is getting on with theirs. I'm hopeful there are some men out there too as I'm sure the experence is different in some ways. I am seeing the dietician on Saturday 10th Sept to understand my pre op diet, which starts on the 15th. My operation is set for 29th and I'm really looking forward to it now the decision is made. Anyway, good luck to all those in the same boat and greetings from Scotland!

This is really good information. My pre op diet starts on the 15th Sept (2 weeks before surgery) but I don't meet the dietician until the 10th so I am still clueless as to what is 'allowed' during this period. I was sort of hopeful I'd be allowed home-made vegetable soups minus the carb filled potatoes etc but maybe not? never been a big lover of the shake type drinks but might have to bite the bullet if that's waht I'm told! I like the idea of spicing these shakes up with fresh fruit etc so any hints from anyone as the best way to 'breeze' through the nightmare fortnight more than welcome. Gary

Hi folks, I'm Gary and I have just found the site. This could be really useful as I don't know anyone personally who has had a band. My first visit to the surgeon was mid July and he suggested 2 appointments with the dietician and a final appointment with him (Mr. Robert Stuart, Ross Hall Hospital, Scotland), which was yesterday (27th Aug). Decision made and I'm going to do it and now have a banding date (29th Sept). Need to go see the dietician again to get the lowdown on the pre op diet but looking forward to just getting on with it now. No idea how easy or hard this is going to be but determined to get fit as soon as possible. Been unfit for too long!
