  1. Hopefully, that is the case! Remember to walk as much as you can. It really is the trick to the healing process. I found out the hard way during a different surgery. Once I started walking after it, I felt so much better. I was determined to not go through what I did before so I started walking within 2 hours of being back in my room. The first time getting up was a bit tough as I was really groggy (not sure that's how you spell it). After that, I was good on my own.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that you are as happy as I am with the results! It is truly amazing what this sleeve can do and how fast it changes your life for the better!

  2. So dont get me wrong, I am so excited to have this surgery, but I dont deal with pain or being sick very well. How horrible was it like the 1st week post op? I am not going to back out of this, I already have my mind made up. Just want to prepare myself.

For me, the first week went OK. I was just sore, not really in too much pain. I was a bit nauseous, but the doctor made sure that I received anti-nausea meds in my IV the first and second day. The day I did get out of the hospital, I slept for 3 hours solid and it was the best sleep ever! Be sure to walk often. It really helps with the discomfort. I had a routine the very first day that I put myself on and stuck to for the first month. I would drink my alloted liquids, walk a lap at the hospital (at home I walked the length of my house and back), then took a short nap for about 15 minutes. I did this every hour during the day and evening.

Healing goes pretty quickly. Just remember to drink what you can of your Water and protien and walk often. You will do fine! I was also very nervous about the pain, but after it was done, I was relieved that it really wasn't much at all.

  3. My first attempt at eating pizza was at 2 months out. I had very thin crust and it was all meat with olives. I didn't eat all of the toppings or all of the slice. It took me about 2 hours of eating off and on to eat the whole slice. It was heaven! Now, I pretty much can eat a whole slice in about 30 minutes and most toppings I can "stomach" on most days! I try not to have pizza more than once or twice a month, but it is a nice treat once in awhile!

  4. Oh! How scary! I am glad that you are doing OK now. I still cannot drink the Protein drinks. I use food to get my Protein now. In the beginning, I would sip the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth. It does get better in time. Even though you had complications, when you are healed you will be so happy that you did the surgery! I know I was and I had a couple of complications! All is good now, 4 months out!

Hang in there and keep us posted!!

  5. It is always comforting to know that I am not alone in this fight! Thanks for the support! Together, we will conquer this!!

    Hello!

Stall's Stink! It is the most talked about topic on this forum! A true "stall" is 3 or more weeks without loss. Below you can see my weight loss results.. I only weigh myself once a week and since June 3rd I have not lost one singe pound.. nothing.. VERY frustrating. I had a little personal goal of wanting to be at 250 pounds by my 6 month surgery date... since I have not lost a pound in 3 weeks, this is pretty frustrating - not going to hit my target.

I count calories (1000 a day) , I count carbs (stay under 40 a day), I hit my protien goal and I hit my Water goal every day.

I started walking about 5 weeks ago, started slow - 20 mins a day, have worked up to 3 miles a day now... and still I have not lost a pound in 3 weeks....so I am with you!!! I am not giving up, and dont you give up... we just have to work past this little hurdle.. (and cuss alot)!!!

    Good luck my friend..

  6. You are probably right! It just seems so odd to just halt my weight-loss after 16 weeks! I have hit stalls, but nothing like this. I am still not loosing and I am now at 17 weeks.

Although, on a positive note, my friend said that I look like I am loosing even though the scale is lying to me. She always is so positive:)!

Thanks for the post. I was beginning to feel frustrated and upset. Even though I am still not loosing, I am trying to think positive and stay upbeat!

Hi there - I know with the band I would hit a stall after losing for several weeks. But the saving tactic was doing my measurements. I started that right before I had my surgery and then did it each week for about the first 6 months. I was amazing to see the inches keep coming off...even when I didn't lose any lbs.

Give it a try...your body is probably rearrange as we speak!

  7. It is obvious that your therapist needs therapy! I wouldn't go back to them. They should be providing you with support and guidance with your own choices. They shouldn't be telling you what their opinion is of you! Get as far away from them as possible! There are plenty of great therapists out there. That one is definetly not one for you!

  8. I have pretty much the same story as everyone else. I am also a slow loser, but I am happy with where I am at this point. I do hit stalls in my weight-loss, but I keep doing what I know is best. It is usually because I need to switch things up a bit. I am currently in a stall, but I am OK with it because I know that it will stop and I will begin loosing again.

Keep your chin up! We are all in the same boat, we just might be hitting some different bumps along the way!

  9. About 2 weeks after my surgery, I woke up at 4am with horrible abdominal pain that radiated to my right side and back. I found out a few days later that it was my gall bladder! After an ultrasound and blood work, I found out that my gall bladder was going bad, so to speak. I never had any problems with it before surgery and just all of a sudden, it went bad. Your problems sound similar to what I experienced.

I know that I am late posting this as the last post was in January 2011, but I am wondering if you had your gall bladder taken out and if it helped you at all. Mine came out 3 weeks ago and I feel sooooo much better!

  10. I have hit 3 stalls now since i had surgery on Feb 28. They are very discouraging! So far, I haven't gained during my stalls, but just didn't loose any weight. However, I did loose inches during all 3 of my stalls.

The best way I found to break the stalls is to increase my exercise a bit, take in a little more Protein, and make sure to drink all of my Water. It usually works!

Hang in there and know that we all experience them! They seem to be part of the process!!

  11. We are all loosing weight, but at different rates. I agree, you need to write down everything that you are taking in. I hit plateaus about every 6 weeks and I don't loose anything for a week. It is really hard to stay focused when I hit these stalls. I usually can kick off my weight loss again by increasing my exercise and increasing my Protein by just a small amount. So far, it has worked, but I am also not loosing a huge amount. There are a lot of on-line resources that can help you track your intake. The most important thing is to not give up! This will work for you. Set small goals for yourself and Celebrate your own success. Don't get caught up in to comparing your loss with anyone else. Keep your chin up and celebrate that you have lost weight! Re-evaluate your own goals and work towards those! Hang in there! You can do this!

  12. I did have a hernia and they repaired it during my surgery. I did have acid reflux, but didn't know it until I had my surgery. I was put on Nexium and I am still on it. You need to go to another doctor, it seems. The information that your current doctor is giving you is not correct. My doctor encourages the sleeve over the bypass, regardless of acid reflux. Surgery changes your body's system and conditions that you have before may improve after. Seriously, you need to seek additional advice from another surgeon.

  13. I still have a hard time with sweetners. I try to find things with sugar and then just dilute them. I know that it slows my weight gain, but I am happy to loose only a couple of pounds a week. Slower is better because it will be more permanent and I won't have all that loose skin hanging on my body!

As long as you are conscious about it, I think you will be fine. I am about 11 weeks post-op and I have lost a total of 48 lbs. I am pretty happy with the weight loss so far and I am even happier that I can finally get in the total amount of fluids. Just this last week, i started being able to drink enough liquid!

Good luck! Happy that you are now on our side:)!...the loser's bench always has room for more!!

  14. I usually get that feeling of tightness right in my chest, then I hiccup. I know I am full. If I take one more bite because I am not paying attention, then I feel miserable for about 30 mins. I usually have to get up and walk around or something. I never measure anymore and I just eyeball what I can eat. I have been using small plates since I had surgery and I know what I can eat by that.

It definetly is not a pleasurable feeling when you take that one bite too many, but it is a nice reminder of the restrictiveness of our new tummys.

  15. I had surgery 2/28 so I am about 10+ weeks post-op.

A typical day for me looks like this:

    Breakfast: A scrambled egg

    Snack: Cottage cheese with fruit

Lunch: 1/4 sandwich on whole wheat bread with slice of turkey or ham and a slice of cheddar or jack cheese.< /p>

Snack: Nuts or Jerky (whatever I have on hand)

Dinner: chicken tenderloin, veggie (usually green Beans or a small amount of salad finely chopped up with cucumber and carrots), and usually a fruit or an additional Protein.

Snack: Usually nuts, Jerky or Activia Yogurt

I drink throughout the day and can usually get in my 64 oz.

I am loosing about 2-3 lbs per week, which my doctor says is perfect!
