  1. Hi! I hope your foot is feeling better!

How many calories are you eating? Most of us are at about 1200 calories. I use My Fitness Pal a lot! My user name is Leepfrog, look me up and friend me!! This is not only keeping me honest with what I am putting in my mouth, but also making me aware of the high calorie foods I was oblivious to. I follow Eat This, Not That on Twitter to get some helpful hints throughout the day which is helpful, too.

Are you grazing? If so, STOP! The band works if you eat meals and chew well. bread and rice are typical problem foods with the band~I have just eliminated them.

Water is a must!! Learn to LOVE IT! Our bodies are made of mostly Water, and if you are not replenishing it, you are doing more harm than good!

    Good Luck!!

  2. I kept reading about My Fitness Pal and thought ok...ok....Well, I finally joined and, If you haven't already, YOU SHOULD!! Not only does it keep you accountable throughout your day, it helps to see what you can do to keep the weight coming off! I had a really strong start being banded on 8/17. Then as predicted the weight just wasn't coming off as easy while I was doing the the same things. I thought this was just the process. I found out by entering my exercise and goals to loose that I wasn't eating enough calories. In less than a week I am already seeing the benefits of this great tool! You can use on your PC as well as an app on your DROID/APPLE device. HOW CONVENIENT!! It is super easy too! Thank You to all who have been promoting this and convincing me :)

My name is leepfrog on there if you want to friend me :D

Good Luck to EVERYONE! We all know this is not an easy road, but together, WE CAN DO IT!!

  3. I agree. I am newly banded and have found that going sugar free/fat free is the way to go. If I have the urge to snack, I drink a glass/bottle of Water and ask myself, am I really hungry, or do I just think I am hungry. If I am unsure, I ask myself why did I get the band again? This helps me stay motivated to make the right choices, cottage cheese instead of chips. If I am still on edge, I look at this website and see all the progress everyone has made and think, "I CAN DO THIS!" I have motivated my husband and now we are in a little competition to make it fun :) PS I'm winning :P

  4. I agree with what everyone else said :) Walk a lot and constently sip Water. Another point is if you have a CPAP/BPAP machine to check with your PCP and have your pressure adjusted. Within the first few days of surgery, I was able to get my pressure reduced by 3 points. That caused me the most grief with my stomach pain.

  5. Hi! Everyone is obviously different and you want to follow doctors orders..but.... I was on a liquid diet for 5days pre op, then 1 week post. I was really strict with the diet surprising myself honestly :) When I went for my follow up I was told that I was healing so well, that I can start creamy Soups right away and they gave me a loose deadline as to when to progess my diet telling me to trust my body. Like others said, each doctor is suggesting different diets for each of their patients. The liquid diet prior to surgery is contingent on BMI I found out. I have had different questions that I wanted my doctor to answer, and I have called them. That's what they are there for! I would rather be safe than sorry!

    Good Luck!

  6. You Rock thank you for the encouragement! I am so happy for you! Do you feel hungry at all?

Well, I am now 4days since I have been banded. I have not been hungry at all. I have had the gas rumblings which at first I thought were hungar pangs, but I realized, I am not hungry! I have been strict with the liquid diet using sugar free Jello as my lunch/dinner. I used to be able to eat 2 cups without a thought. I can now only eat a spoon full (slowly) and feel satisfied. My biggest challenge through the process at this time is figuring out if I am really hungry or if I only THINK I am hungry. I am constantly sipping on liquids, popsicles and broth and so far I am down 12lbs~ and feeling satisfied!! I have more energy believe it or not. I am still taking pain meds, but instead of every 4 hrs, maybe 3xs a day ( when I wake up, late afternoon and bedtime). I don't have too much pain except when I lay down to rest.

Something I was shocked about was right after surgery moving to recovery. I had A LOT of pain, but they got my pain meds connected and it went from a level 9-10 to a 2 in minutes. I am absolutely glad I researched my doctor and am absolutely happy with the care I received at the hospital. They were so accomadating and I didn't feel like I was bothering the nurses at all. In fact, they were part of my cheering section :)

  7. Hi! I was just banded on 8/17! My primary insurance denied me due to the contractual obligations with my employer. I have a secondary insurance through my husband that luckily approved me. If your insurance does deny you, you can always submit a grievance, how long that will take, I am not sure.

I was more nervous about the liquid diet leading up to the surgery than the surgery it's self! When I was in the pre op room, that's when the nerves really started and I realized~ This is going to happen! I am still in a little pain, but just remember to walk and sip, the sooner the better! Also, take advantage of your pain meds. These were prescribed for a reason :)

    Good Luck!

  8. I need a support group ...

Hi! I was just banded on Weds. I haven't had surgery except for my wisdom teeth. Needless to say the closer the surgery got on Weds, the more nervous I got! Everyone was so nice and put me at ease. By the time my IV was going and I spoke to the doctors, I was ready to go. When I woke up from surgery, I had really bad heartburn, but they said that was normal. They started my pain meds and I was feeling great! I was walking that night and a bunch the next day. After my GI test, I was sipping liquids and walking like crazy so I could go home. I live in PA and the ride home was rough with all the bumps! When I feel asleep in my own bed my belly felt a little stretched. when I woke up in the middle of the night, it really hurt! I took my pain meds and put a pillow under my knees, making sure I keep my feet moving as much as possible. When I woke up for good on Friday, I feel some pain, but I am sipping and walking around the house to help get things back to normal.

You will do great! It's all mental right now :)
