faddisc got a reaction from gingersnap in Awaiting My Vsg....march 28 At Bamc
I'm very excited to find this group. It seems many of us who are going thru Tricare to get our surgeries can benefit from each other's experience.
I have recently finished the last of my prerequisits and just got my date assigned: MARCH 28!!!! I"m soooo excited! I have jumped through many, many hoops to get to this point but I'm so glad I'm here.
When I first began my journey my BMI was under 35 so I only qualified to get a LapBand. I realized that the VSG was probably a better option for me. I am actually glad I have gained quite a bit of weight since I began my weightloss surgery journey. I now qualify for the Vertical Sleeve.
I hope my stay at BAMC is a good one. I have one fantastic experience there in which I felt so well taken care of. But another time I was very disappointed in my treatment there.
Any other members have WLS experiences at BAMC?

Wow! Sounds like your perserverance is paying off. I am so glad your pain is getting better. I've had these surgeries that I thought would be quick recoveries end up keeping me down for 2 weeks! I pray that's not the case with mine.
I begin my liquid diet soon and will be sleeved on the 28th. You should join the group of us who've had surgery in March. :-)

faddisc reacted to pasquini in 10Months Out Ate My First Cheeaeburger Today
K well, i didn't eat the whole cheese burger. Lol, i ate half, and only the meat and toppings. Not the bun. My second oldest and i went to Nic's Grill in OKC it was features on "Dinner, Drive-in's, and Dives" it was good, and i could have eaten the bread if i had desired, funny thing is i didnt really care. So, what is my point?
Well, yes there does come a time after surgery when u really can eat whatever u want. Both physically and mentally. Its a great place to be. Notice however i mentioned this was my 1st burger. 10 months out and 12lbs below goal. So, i read a post here and there where someone is saddened that they cant eat this or that at 5, 10, 12 weeks out. My thoughts on this are (no i dont think i am an expert or know everyones circumstances) we made a choice to force a change into our lives. Sticking to a healthy eating plan should be a given! Why try to eat burgers and queso and cake and all that when u have not made goal, this tool is amazing, it works. And it works even better if we are focused and diligent. Did i cheat here and there? Heck yes, margaritas are a weakness but if I paid for it in a stall, or a pain in the gut, i understood why and how to correct it.
Now, here i am fighting the old demons as i order my with splenda! Did i mention im 12lbs below goal?
I run 3 miles 3 times a week an 10 miles on saturday, the truth is i can eat whatever i want now. And mostly what i want is good clean fuel for this new amazing body i woke up in!! You can get there, you can find that place where u can eat whatever, just in smaller portions. But it takes some time and work. It takes remembering that nothing tastes as good as thin.
I know this isnt as feel good as my normal encouragent post. I mean for it to be, i also mean for it to be a positive way to view where your headed and motivation to stay the course.
If your just starting out push forward dont give up, refocus when u lose track and fight for the beat version of you to crawl out of your old self!

Well, after reading this post - I must've missed the message because this past weekend was my last "full" stomach weekend as well, and I didn't do nearly as much damage as I wanted too! LOL.. I was so busy organizing my husband's b'day party, cooking, prepping, etc.. I really wasn't hungry. But wouldn't you know - today is my first day of the 3 day pre op diet .. and I'm about to chew my arms off! I'm ridiculously starving! I'm really trying to keep my head in the game, but I'm too light headed to think straight!
What I worry about the most after surgery (which is Friday 3/9.. yikes!!) is the head hunger. I don't want to have that - it's like being caught between a rock and a hard place... wanting to eat, feeling the need to eat - but not bein physically able to do so... Also, I feel like a part of me is changing before my very eyes... Isn't that crazy?? Like I am losing some of my personality because it's so wrapped up in food... what the heck is wrong with me?? LOL.. sorry, just had a temporary lapse in sanity!
Good luck to all of us with our upcoming surgeries!

faddisc reacted to Pookeyism in Bad Breath?
Is it coming from the back of your throat? You could have a sinus infection, or nodes or something - gargle with a non alcohol mouth rinse - really gargle - kick you neck back and open your throat...you might kick some nodes out.
A "node" that I refer to is a collection of throat plaque that gets caught in tiny folds in the back of your throat and back cheeks and can cause very bad breath. You will know if you get one because it will be firm, vary in size, migh break up but it will smell FOUL! I got them for awhile after an accident cause me to have plastic surgery to my cheek through the inside of my mouth, but mine stopped - and I go in every 6 months and they check it all out again...
Right after any surgery, it is always good to get a Hubby or someone to "check your breath". Foul odors and where they originate and how they smell have been classic diagnostic tools for thousands of years.

I haven't had the sleeve yet, but I'm a Constipation PRO! I even had surgery to correct the problems that constipation caused.
Here are my solutions: (ask your doc before trying any of them)
    1. fleet brand laxatives are very gentle and may help out.
    2. frosted mini wheats Cereal but LOTS of Water afterward or else you'll have major issues.
    3. dolcolax is what most docs recommend but they take FOREVER to work. If you are on pain meds, you will almost always have constipation.
    4. glycerine suppositories
    5. enema
Don't be embarrassed about taking an enema. It's better you give yourself one in the privacy of your own home than the nurses have to administer one in the hospital .
You should talk to your doc about which options are viable. Once you get things "going" continue eating Fiber full meals followed by lots of Water or else you could come up with the very same problem.

    Hello fellow March Sleevers,
I just got my date today, March 15th and I cannot wait. 5 weeks can't pass soon enough for me. But I am trying to be zen about it and lose a little weight before the surgery.
I have struggled with my weight for the past 13 years. It seems I was okay, never skinny but mediumish build until I hit 30. Then I started to gain, gain, gain. Now at 43 I want to live and be healthy! I have a young son who needs me and he is my inspiration each day.
I look forward to this journey.

faddisc got a reaction from circa in Finally Decided To Get The Sleeve Instead Of The Lapband & Got My Surgery Date!
I've belonged to both the LapBand and Sleeve websites for a little bit now. I've read here so many people who have had revisions to the sleeve from the LapBand.
Yesterday, I completed the last of my requirements to get weight loss surgery.
Today I spoke with my surgeon and he agrees that getting the vertical sleeve is probably the best option for me. He also gave me my surgery date: MARCH 28!!! I'm so very excited. I cannot believe this part of my journey is almost over.
I had a lot of prerequisites to complete before I was able to get this surgery. I was scared I would be diagnosed with sleep apnea which would have made me push my surgery back for at least 6 months. But I passed the sleep study and all of the other hurdles my insurance company had for me. It's been 3 months since I began this process.
I can't wait to be posting my weight loss on this site with the rest of you!!!!
