  1. Does anyone chew gum or eat popcorn or nuts since being banded?
  2. I had my surgery 12/30/11, started my liquid diet 12/21/11 and have a lost a total of 23 pounds. No fills yet.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions.
  4. I had my first post op appointment on Thursday, almost a month after sugery. I had to cancel my initial pre op appointment due to severe weather. I have been given the go ahead to eat "regular" food. I'm nervous about what to eat. I am so worried about something getting stuck or gaining weight. I've lost 21 since the start of the pre op liquid diet on 12/21/11. Tonight we are looking to go out to dinner and I keep going over the menu looking at things that are okay to eat. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

    Yeah!!! Great job!!!
  6. I had my surgery on 12/30/11, and also had to do the liquid diet. My doctor's reason for the liquid diet was to shrink the liver. To my surprise I did not find myself hungry on it. I had to drink HMR shakes 4 times a day with a few other items mixed in. I lost 8.5 pounds in the 9 days. Good luck to everyone still waiting for their surgery.
  7. I had my surgery 12/30/11 and didn't go back to work until today, 1/9/12. I could have easily went back the week following the surgery, Wednesday for sure, but my dr's note was written to return 1/9 and my boss wouldn't allow me to go back earlier.
  8. I did not know that I had a hiatal hernia until I had my lap band done. My surgeon found and fixed it the same day of my lap band surgery.

I would contact your doctor. I had my surgery 6 days ago and I am also on a liquid diet. I find that the shakes (sugar free carnation) and my non fat high protein yogarts and my cream soups are filling me to only eat every 4 hours. It doesn't seem right that you are able to eat all of that food. I'd worry about doing something to my band or worse!
  10. Day 6 since surgery and thankfully the shoulder pain is gone. It was a rough few days. Thanks everyone
  11. I also had a hiatal hernia that was found and repaired during surgery. I am 6 days out and so far feel great with very little pain ( I only took my prescribed pain meds for 2 days).
  12. Mine was a 9 day liquid diet with the HMR shakes (4 a day) with a mix and match of things like cottage cheese or yogart, or fruit or v8/tomato juice, with broth, sugar free jello and sugar free popicles as wanted. It wasn't bad. I lost 8 1/2 pounds on it, good way to start!
  13. Thank you both. I just wanted to make sure that what I was experiencing was normal. I do not remember this being mentioned in any of the classes I attended. This site has been a wonderful thing in helping me prepare for the lap band and a wonderful resource since getting banded.
  14. I had my surgery on Friday, 12/30/11. I've been up and moving, even went to play cards at friends last night and to walmart this am. Is it normal to still have shoulder pain this many days after surgery?
  15. Thanks for all the suggestions. From my surgery date I will be off from work 9 days. I honestly can't believe how well I feel already. I know not to push it but I was kind of thinking that by the end of the 9 days at home I will be going stir crazy, plus I can sit most of the day at work and 'take it easy". I luckily have lots of sick time, but also don't like using it. I'm a "hoarder" of my time.
  16. I had my surgery yesterday and feeling pretty good. I don't have my follow up until Jan 12th but I was looking forward to going back to work Jan 9th. I have an office job where I sit a lot of the day and no lifting. How long did everyone wait to return to work?
  17. Today I had my lapband surgery!!! I feel good, a little tender. While in surgery, my surgeon found that I had a hiatal hernia so that was repaird as well. My experience has been good. Right after surgery I was extremely nauseous and was given something at least 4 to 5 times to help. I was also allowed to continue to sleep to help me with it. My surgery was at 8:00 AM and I was out of the hospital by 3:45. I am so fortunate to be able to begin my "new life" today. I began in the beginning of July when my sister and I went to a seminar. She is still going through the process. At times it seemed like the day would never come, now that it has come I can't believe it and wish everyone good luck.
  18. Congratulations! I have mine tomorrow. What a way to start the new year!
  19. I guess I was very lucky. I had no headaches or any other "withdrawal" symptoms. The only day I was hungry was Christmas Eve and I think it had to do with what I cooked for my family. I have my surgery tomorrow and just with the liquid diet I'm already down 8 pounds.
  20. I am on day 8 of a 9 day liquid diet. I do not find myself hungry. I expected it to be horrible. The shakes are filling and not bad tasting. You can do it and believe me it really wasn't bad.
  21. I had my consultation the first week of July 2011. My appointments seemed to go "fast" at first. Then thinkgs slowed down. I just heard from my insurance that they have approved me. I found out this week that I now have a surgery date 12/30/11. I am so excited. So for me the whole process will be just under 6 months.
