  1. That was biggest complaint too. I started on the GasX yesterday and this morning it is MUCH better. Hang in there. It will pass (no pun intended).

I agree! It never felt so good to give a good burp and pass gas!! Thankfully i've not been in any situation where i needed to keep it in.....LOL

GasX deosn't seem to do it for me. Not sure why. Right now, i have a terrible pain under my left breast that's making it hard to breathe.

  2. When I had my surgery they had liquid prevacid going in my IV. When I left the hospital they gave me a 3 month supply of Nexium (I don't have reflux) to help with the healing in the stomach. They didn't say how long I have to take it but I am going to check on Tues when I have my post op. Long story short, your dr may give you some sort of meds like prevacid or nexium..... That bowel prep was no joke!!!

I have a 3 month prescription for pepsid that i need to take.

You're not kidding about the bowel prep. My surgeon's office told me to take a dulcolax IF i hadn't had a bowel movement by 2 nights before surgery. WHile i did have one, i wanted to make sure so i took one pill..........well, let's just say.........DAMN!!

  3. I totally agree about anything out of the ordinary freaking you out. I am right there with you.

I agree as well. I have no idea what to expect any time i put something in my mouth (water, liquids, vitamins). With the gas pains, it's hard to decipher what is a full filling and what is actually gas. It's weird. I guess we'll be able to start feeling what restriction is supposed to feel like once we're on normal foods.

  4. Okay, this is a silly question but for those of you that are post-op and still on the liquid diets is there something that you can't wait to eat when you get on the pureed/mushies part? I am craving refried beans! It is the weirdest thing but that just sounds so good. I go to my post op on Tuesday so I am hoping to advance them so I can have some, lol. Just a silly question :)

  5. Did you have surgery and go home the same day? My surgery wasn't until 4 pm and I got to my hospital room at 8pm last Tuesday, went home on Thursday at 4pm. I was so dizzy and nauseated with Zofran in my IV and a patch behind my ear. I knew I had to walk so I could go home, but every time I was sea sick. Every time I moved I screamed in pain....even last night when I turned in bed I woke my hubby up screaming in pain. The meds will make you dizzy for sure because you don't have any food in your stomach. Maybe you can ask your doctor for the patch for nausea to put behind your ear? Then if you are still sick, take the Zofran - mine is dissolved on my tongue. Hope this helps! But you are a real trooper to be up and moving like that.

    :) Marebeth

Yes, had the surgery at 8:30am and was discharged at 5pm. My surgeon does all the band surgeries during the first part of the day because they are all same day discharges.

I was only nauseous in the recovery room and they put something in the iv for me. Once i got to ambulatory to sit for another 3 hours while sipping Water, i was able to walk around....especially to the bathroom cuz in recovery, i hated having to ask the nurse for the bedpan and hope she put it in the right place so i don't pee myself!!!!

I stopped taking the lortab today so that i wouldn't have that terrible dizzy spell again! I seem to be ok. Maybe i'll just take tylenol before going to bed and see how i do with that.

    Thanks Marabeth!!

  6. Sorry you had a bad night! The first night after I had surgery I had gas pains so bad I had to get up in the middle of the night and walk around the nurses station to make them go away. I would think the dizzyness might be from the meds. I know the liquid lortab they gave me said it can cause dizzyness. I hope you are taking it easy. Make sure you get plenty of rest so you can heal :). Take care!

I decided not to take the lortab till tonight when i go to sleep. My kids will be coming home from school and i need to be of good sorts to spend the time with them. I'll deal with the ET Tylenol till i have to go to bed. Yes, did take it easier today. Thanks!

My problem now is my stomach growling. I'm supposed to have 3 shakes a day and IF i'm hungry, i can go to full liquids (soup, yogurt, pudding). It's hard to tell what the noises are in my stomach.........hunger? gas? I do feel weak....just had a cup of pudding and am feeling a bit nauseous. This all just very confusing to me.

  7. I wish you all could see this huge smile on my face tight now!!!

I just left my docs office for my 1 week post-op check-up... They had me weigh in & I'm down 13.4 pounds in my first week!!!!!

Good luck to everyone getting banded today & the rest of the week! My biggest recommendation - get up & walk as much as you can, as quick as you can after surgery.

    Good for you!!! That's amazing!

  8. My Lap-Band surgery was yesterday morning and all is well. I'm still in hospital and will likely stay another night. Yesterday was nothing by mouth. Today is clear liquids. My surgeon is conservative. He wants the stomach to rest and recover and then take it slow. This is fen with me!

My lungs have needed breathing treatments every four hours. I've been up walking and am sitting Ina chair right now. The incisions hurt and I'm thankful for pain meds!

    Deep breathing is painful.

All in all, the experience has been good and I lime my surgical and nursing team and the hospital. I will list again when I get hone and can catch up with everyone else!

On my way to a size 12 and better health!

We got banded at the same time!!!! I went home afterwards though. Hope you're doing better.

Yes, the incisions do hurt! I'm in the same boat. It's also hard to move around in bed so i didn't sleep too well.

    We're on our way! :)

  9. I was able to function without too much pain the very next day. Maybe I wasn't in pain due to the pain killers but it really didn't seem bad. My hubs went back to work so I was on my own and I was fine. I'm now almost 2 weeks post op and the only problem I'm dealing with is itchy itchy incisions. Every once in a while my port area hurts but it doesn't last long.

Thanks for your response. I'm able to function today as well but still taking the painkiller. My husband did go to work today as well. I'm feeling a lot of soreness from all the incisions......have no idea where my port is......is it through the biggest incision?

  10. Getting banded on Thursday... My husband has been so supportive of me getting the surgery but today he said he doesn't think I should do it. He 's been reading a lot of stories about people having complications. I'm trying to reassure him I'll be ok but he's freaking me out now!

My husband was the same way. As time got closer, he was questioning and not wanting to talk about it. I had my surgery yesterday and now he's fine. I think that once you're on the other side and your husband sees you're doing fine, he'll feel much better. It's the unknown that scares him like it did my husband. Good luck!

  11. Had my surgery today. Things went well and i'm hoping they went well with anyone else getting banded today.

The thirst was difficult throughout. I was thirsty while sitting in preop for 1.5 hours but obviously couldn't drink. After surgery, while in recovery, i did feel nauseous so the nurse gave pushed some meds into the IV. Because of this, they decided not to give me any Water or ice for the 3 hours i was down there.......that was really tough. I had terrible dry mouth and was so uncomfortable. Finally, when they brought me to Ambulatory Medicine, they gave me ice chips and i tried real hard not to down all the Water at once!

Was walking around in amubulatory with no problems. Discharged 3 hours later. For the most part, i'm feeling good....just a bit of pain inside and out. Hoping to get a good night's sleep and some rest tomorrow.

One question to previous bandsters: how long does it take to recover enough to function enough without much pain?

  12. I'm scheduled for monday the 19th too!! They are having me get to the hospital at 6:30am! Thankfully, i'm the first appt. Hoping to be home before the kids get home from school. I've been on full liquids these past 2 days and can only have Clear Liquids tomorrow (sunday). What are you guys having surgery on monday eating for Breakfast tomorrow? I can only think of tea cuz broth doesn't appeal to me for breakfast.
