Thank you so much for your response. It’s what I needed to move forward. Now if my mom an stay stable this week, i think I’ll be fine. One more question, did you tell extended family members about your surgery? I told my daughter and son and both think I should try harder to loose weight on my own. I have not said anything to any of my siblings as I really don’t want their advice and options. My husband is very supportive and feels it important that I get the weight off. We have so many future travel plans as we move into retirement.

I am scheduled December 12th to have my lap band removed and revision to RNY. I leave in May for Europe for wine cruise in Bordeaux France and then an additional 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal. I would like to enjoy some wine and tastes of on the various foods we will be served. I will be traveling with 2 other couples. I need help understanding where I will be in 6 months. Can I eat and drink just about anything within the small servings guidelines? Being able to keep up with the other couples and being sick and tired of being so heavy and out of shape is my driving me to do this now. The other issue I have is that my mom is being referred to hospice. She is 95 and not sure if she has days or weeks left. How long will it take me to recover from surgery so I can get back to visiting her. She lives near me. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi everyone! I am 42 years old and I weigh 258, down from 262 as of 7/19/11.I have a tentative surgery date of August 31^st.I have already been through my initial consultation, and figured out my financing with Care Credit. I have also found out in my Quest for this surgery that you can take the surgery off on your taxes if the cost exceeds 7.5% of your total income. I encourage that anyone interested in this do their own research on the internet like I did. As a self pay patient I am going to utilize this tax savings. I am getting a Lap Band with plication/ imbrication. I have already been through an Ultra Sound with gallbladder imaging, 2 Chest X Rays, Upper GI, bloodwork and 2 psychological evaluations. I only have an appointment with the nutritionist left and my follow up appointment with my surgeon on either Tuesday August 23^rd,or Thursday August 25 ^{th .} before surgery August 31^st.I have sleep Apnea and Osteoarthritis in my knee and this is why I want the surgery. I have already started working out and eating better so the transition/adaptation after my surgery won't be as big of a dramatic change. I am sort of nervous only because I am keeping my surgery a secret at my job. I am very excited at the prospect of losing my excess weight. My weight has been a big problem for most of my life and I haven't liked the path I went down because of it. I am happy that now I have the ability to create a new beginning for myself and not spend my entire life fat.
