Fear and Anxiety Getting to Me

Thank goodness I am not the only person going through this! I am trying to focus on my pre-op diet but it is super hard. Of course, this is a big reason why I am getting the sleeve in the first place. I need a physical limitation in order to make a mental change. I have discovered that I am a binge eater. Well...not really discovered...more like proved to myself. I can go all day with my protein shakes and SF Hawaiian Punch. As soon as I get in the house I start to binge on everything I can possibly find. I eat until I am past the point of full and then I hate myself for it until it is time to go to bed. I used to lie to myself and say "you didn't eat that much...it's just ONE meal". That one meal would often add up to 2000 calories! I am really hoping that once I get my sleeve, I will be able to finally conquer this. I even tried this week to think about "why are you eating this?" and I found it wasn't an emotional binge. I eat because it tastes great! I don't seem to have the "off" switch once I get started. Sorry for the rambling. You all have been wonderful in helping me get through the anxiety. I am sure I will start to feel better once everything starts falling into place.

    Tylenol after surgery

Now that you say it, it does make sense. Unless the gas is pumped into your sleeve or intestines, it probably won't do me much good (except perhaps psychological). I did find the strips and the liquid Tylenol at my Kroger grocery store today. Silly question...how does the pumped in gas make its escape?

    Got my DATE!!! WOO HOO!!!!!

I am August 16th too! I start my pre-op diet on Monday but I started some diet prep this week. I cold turkeyed the caffeine 3 days ago and I am feeling pretty good. I have been trying different Protein shakes too. Yay! Congrats for August!
  11. I haven't been sleeved yet (August 16th!) but I had a lot of the same questions you did. I am a single mom of a two year old little girl. The mommies here have been great with advice for me and are easing my anxiety. From what I gather, I won't be able to pick her up for at least 2 months. I bought a small step stool for in the car and one for in the house. We are working on her using the step to climb in and out of her car seat (I have an SUV). I moved her baby bed next to mine - she still sneaks in to sleep with mommy, but with her bed next to mine I don't have to worry about helping her get down from my bed. Other than getting in and out of the bathtub, I think she and I are covered. I hope everything works out for you!
  12. I'm going to see Dr. Aceves to get sleeved on August 16th! I fly in on the 15th! :clap2: Is anyone going to be there with me? I am going to be alllll byyyyy myseeeeelf.

    caffeine withdrawal??

Ugh! I am going through the same thing. I decided to start early so I wouldn't have to deal with this post-op. I was drinking 2-3 cups of coffee, and I can't even imagine how much sweet tea I was drinking. I took Tylenol and it is turning the major headache into a dull roar. This definitely is not fun. I hope it only takes 2-3 days.

    I've Got A Date!!!

    Will do! Good luck!
  15. I had a few firsts today. - My first Debbie Downer experience. I am trying to keep this as quiet as possible because of the stigma attached. I felt comfortable telling one close friend (because she may be watching the baby while I am gone). I have to admit that I thought for sure she would be excited because she has relatives in Mexico. Well, you know what happens when you assume. She was Debbie Downer! I gave her all the reasons and research and she still wasn't picking up what I was putting down. Sigh...oh well. - I had my first "doh!" moment today. I mistakenly read the finance company as Care Credit instead of CosmetiCredit. I got approved for Care Credit but can't use them. So I'm waiting until tomorrow with my fingers crossed (and so is Nina) that the other loan company will approve. - My first Protein shake. I got the Myoplex Lite pre-made in chocolate and vanilla. The chocolate wasn't bad. I'm going to go to Vitamin Shoppe soon to try the nectar and Jay Robb flavors. I want a good mix of powder and liquid for when I get to that stage. - My first chew-a-thon. I had a hamburger from McD's and decided to try to chew it 30 times before swallowing. I realized...WOAH I eat fast and barely chew anything! I am like a vacuum cleaner! I also realized that liquified McDonald's burgers are pretty nasty. This is such a mental journey. I am so grateful that you are all here to help me! HDub

    I've Got A Date!!!

Oooh you will have to let me know how it goes! I'll be there soon. YIPPEE! It seems like it is all moving so fast that I can't keep up.
  17. I have a couple of questions. The patient information guide for Dr. Aceves says that I should refrain from lifting heavy objects for 3 months. I have a two-year old daughter who is 26 lbs. I am a single mother, so it is usually just the two of us. Does anyone have an idea when I should be able to pick her up to help her into her car seat or her high chair?<br style="text-indent: 0px !important; ">The booklet also says that I can get Nexxium in Mexico. Is it possible to cross the border with 6 months of Nexxium? I have to admit that I made myself laugh thinking I could get stopped at the border for trying to get too much acid relief back into the US! Once I stopped laughing, I figured I should ask. If you bought your loot across the border, do you remember how much it cost? (Can I use dollars or do I need pesos?) Maybe it is because I am up past my bedtime but I am cracking myself up about this Nexxium! Heather

Why Don't Skinny People Get It ?

That IS a great analogy. I'm finding that it isn't just skinny people that make the funky face but fat people do too. I think other people who are overweight are turning their internal negativity onto us as a place to latch on the feelings. Skinny people don't have the frame of reference. I'm a lady (well on a GOOD day), so I won't understand what it's like to be kicked in the nads. I'm sure its painful but I only know that from what I've been told. I'm sure WLS is like that...you just can't be there mentally until you have been there physically.

    Total cost?

Great googley moogley! $200 for Nexxium? I hope this stuff has specks of gold in it or something. If you get it back here in the US do you have to have a prescription? I do have drug coverage through my insurance but I would need a script to get it. Do you think the people at Target would give me that stank eye if I came in with a Rx from Mexicali? ** Note - Sorry for the threadjack but it's kinda about costs? **

    Lifting & Nexxium

I am glad I am not the only person thinking about what to do with my Peanut. I am starting to notice through the day how many times I actually use my flabby ab muscles to lift or help. It is a little frustrating because even bending over to get something off the floor uses my tummy muscle. I am thinking of carrying a pair of kitchen tongs on a string so I can reach things without hurting myself. HDub

    Total cost?

My entire stay with Dr. Aceves is going to be $8750. I think I am getting in on a special deal. I already have a passport so I can't help you with that one, but my round trip flight is going to be around $450. I am flying from Georgia to San Diego. I don't know how much I will spend on my last big meal or on the Nexxium supply. I hope this helps! HDub

    Dr Aceves & CareCredit

Hello everyone! Does anyone know if Dr. Aceves is able to accept CareCredit? I did the application and was approved but I am waiting on a decision from cosmeticredit and medfinanceloans. I wanted to shop the best deal on financing, but now I am concerned that I messed up. Anyone know? Thanks! HDub
  24. Well, I'm not sure where to start. I have been lurking for quite some time and now I am coming out of the shadows. I have known for over a year that I wanted WLS but never thought I would be able to do it. I thought I would be miserable for the rest of my life. I am at my highest lifetime weight and it is seriously impacting my quality of life. I can't walk for more than 5 minutes without my back screaming at me. My knees are constantly aching as is my left hip. I have a 2-year old daughter that I want to play with and take on walks, and I feel like I am only partly in the game. A dear friend of mine lost her mother earlier this year. After the funeral she sat me down and said that she had all these regrets for what could have been in her life and that I don't need to waste one more minute being unhappy. So I got off my keester and started making things happen. I am the HR Manager at my company, so I know quite well what is covered and not covered. We use BCBS of GA and our policy does not provide for WLS. I also have Tricare but that will be going away here shortly. I just finalized my divorce. Knowing all this helps a lot, because I decided I will have to do self-pay. There is a bariatric program (Center of Excellence) in my city, but I am not comfortable with it. I have been admitted to the hospital for several different things in the past so I know the level of care to expect. It stinks like hot garbage. So after a lot of research, I want to go with Dr. Aceves. For a lot of the reasons that have been listed before in the forums and the research I have done online, I feel like this is the place for me. I pressed the "contact me" button on his website and now I'm waiting to start my journey. I am a bundle of questions and most of them it seems everyone else has already had. I am a single mother but a dear friend has volunteered to stay with my daughter while I am "out of town". She is the only person that I am willing to tell about all this. She supports me regardless. My parents do not. Other people put a lot of fear in me by asking "what about your daughter? you are being reckless because something could happen to you." My thought behind that is that something could happen to me right now. I am already functioning well below capacity so I need to make things better. I have no intention of telling my job what I am doing. I will tell them that I need time off for "a personal surgery". I am hoping I will be able to go back to work when I return from Mexicali. This has gotten quite long so I will close it out and hope that everything goes well.

    Lifting & Nexxium

Hmm...a stool is a great idea. She loves to climb. I will have to work on her figuring out how to get into the car seat, but she is a smart kid so I am sure she will get there. I certainly don't want to pop a stitch because of a car seat!
