  1. Thanks for your reply. I seem to be able to drink warm liquids without much problem of burpin up foam. Guess I will give the doc a call. I know I was definately too full yesterday after the first needle stick. Thanks so much. Will see how the day goes and what I can consume other than warm liquid.... (coffee) is working fine. . Took a sip of Water around 3:30 am and it kinda stuck and was burpy til about 4:45. I didnt sleep well.....

If you can not even sip water, you are too tight. Yes there is swelling but you should still be able to drink water

  2. Hello

I had surgery 8/2 Had my first fill yesterday. Nurse said doc put too much in and she took some out. My sip of Water finally came out of my throat and chest, I could feel it. Didnt eat prior to and now about 1 tbl spoon of anything gets foamy in my pouch and I am spitting up. I cant even suck on 1/3 of a popcycle that doesnt foam and then gurgle up to the back of my throat. I assume from fill conversations that I am swollen ? I cant even sip a tablespoon of water without foaming. My only concern at this point 8 hrs out from a fill is I need Hydration and a tblspoon of water ever hr is probably not going to be enough. I will wait for a couple of days. My doctor says mushy food, but I serisouly dont see how I can even do mushy if I cant get down a thumbdrop of water. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

  3. Yes...I have some discomfort sitting in a regular chair. I too can do the recliner, but sitting up for too long is very uncomfortable and I have to lay down for a bit . I think this is just normal. Everything has gone smoothly for me as well but I sit in a chair at work and I am a bit concerned that I will not be able to sit as long as I normaly do. Would it look funny if I stood and answered the phones ? LOL....

I was just curious if anyone else has discomfort sitting in a regular chair? I am sure this is normal, but I just like to make sure. I sit comforatably in a recliner where I can lean back, but sitting in an office chair is a bit uncomfortable. I guess everything is just kind of pushed together. I was banded on August 1st. So far, everything has gone smoothly.

  4. I am on day 3 after surgery and believe me when I say, that I had all the same feelings your are having. I think most of us do. I decided against that sports car I could have had and and going the the healthy sporty body that I will have. I am a self pay too. So far I feel great and no complications. Its strange how you can embrace new feelings on your life and food. You will be fine and I say go for it. ! Best of Luck :)

  5. Hi guys! My name is Rachel. I am a happily married mother of 4 and impatiently waiting to have my surgery. :) I had my psych eval last week and go in on Thursday for the report, this psychiatrist likes to give the patient the report first before faxing it to the doctor. After this is turned in to the surgeon it should only take about 2 days in order to get it approved my insurance, Tricare, and I am so nervous. Then I can schedule my date....so I am hoping to get this done by the first week in August. Reading everyone's post give me hope, 1 i will get it approved and 2 it will be beneficial to me. I am so ready to win this battle against my weight.

I live in Missouri. Dr. Mally did my banding on Aug 2nd. (Tues)...He is in Stugis now, having a great time. (motorcycle rider) LOL...I am a self pay and all went well with the surgery. The staff at New Hope was amazing and I am down 11 lbs since the pre-surgery diet. I am still sore but doing well. Glad you got insurance to cover it. WTG... I have hardly begun my journey, but at this point 3 days after surgery, I am happy I chose to change my life. I didnt need that sports car anyway ! LOL...Good Luck.

  9. Well, Tomorrow is my Banding Day. Its been a emotional rollercoaster for the last couple of weeks. Oddly enough I am calm right now. Not sure how I will be tomorrow, or tonite after being on clear fluids all day. I have utilized the forums and feel good about my decision to do the Banding. The what if's are the worst. I expect a speedy recovery as I have seen with others and hope that my "Do-Over" Journey to a thinner and healthier me will be ful-filling. Wish me luck and I must say how much I appreciate all the people who have been there, done that..for your continued support and words of encouragement. :P

  10. Hope it goes well for you. Tomorrow is my official Band Day. I am not nervous either...right now. Maybe later. Good Luck and Let us know how your recovery goes.

I have an overnight stay at the hospital to do a barium swallow the next morning...wish me luck I am off to the shower and get ready success1.gif

  11. My surgery is 8/2 as well. My doc's liquid diet is not all liquid. So I am not reallly suffering. Monday will be an all clear liquid diet and that will be a difficult day. I been alittle *itchy the last few days. I hope your surgery goes well. Keep in touch. Jme

I'm day 4 on my liquid diet.... No fruits, no veggies, no meat... All I'm allowed to have is sugar free popsicles/italian ice, sugar free Jello, chicken/beef broth, strained cream Soup (which I can't do because they upset my stomach), Water, Protein shakes... that's about it.

I'm starving and feel weak. And I'm a nurse and have to work the next 2 days (12 hour shifts each day), feel like I won't make it.

    Surgery is Tuesday 8-2

  12. Hi, Monica.,

I havent had my surgery yet, but my pre-opt diet is not that strick. On Monday I go to clear fluids only and Tues Surgery. Then back to liquids for a week. I have notice that most of the liquids that are sugar free have aspertame in them. I am allergic to aspertame and it give me horrible headaches Headaches can cause nausea. So I dont know how much crystal light you are drinking, but that may be the reason for headache and nausa. Just a thought. I will have to get creative to avoid aspertame,. Good luck and hang in there. These are desperate times and they require desperate measures.

    names Monica

I was just introduced to this site by a close friend. and I am so grateful for it... I'm going into surgery 12 days from today. 8/6/11 (lap ban) and already going threw an array of emotions..

I have spent my entire life coming to terms with my body, accepting and loving me! and now my doctor says that this is necessary for my health... yea i know if i loved my self i wouldn't of stuffed my face until the point of diabetes and high blood pressure.. but in my defense up until 2months ago i never had any health food related problems. Now this surgery could mean life or death for me. so why am i not more excited about it? but eventually i know all good things will work out in the end. and i will be much happier in the long run :D

what i do need help in the worst way is this liquids for two weeks..

It's my second day and i already Mucked up! Subways got the best of me this afternoon! ..

Im really scared that i will not be able to go two weeks on liquids only.. I am already crawling out of my skin! i get headache's, nauseous, and literately feel dizzy sometimes? and what's up with these Protein shakes? could they make them taste any worse? (yuck) HOW am I going to get threw these two weeks?

Is there anybody else going threw this problem? and please please tell how did you get threw it? Any advice is much appreciated.

  13. I am a self pay. I am scheduled for surgery next Tues. My emotions are all over the place. I read the negatives and positiives as well. Its very confusing and I have flipped back and forth about doing this. I have decided once again this is the best and only option I have to lose the weight. Obviously I havent done it on my own and everytime I commit, I fail. I have heard more positive than negative about the lap band surgery and right now at this minute I am doing it. I might change my mind again in 2 hrs. I am coming to grips with the fact that food shouldnt be the focus of my life and I shall have to mourn my loss of food later. I will rejoice in the loss of weight and the fear of losing any specific food item will be diminished quickly. I need to be heallthier and that is my goal. To feel better and live longer. Its not about the money, its about your life. You cant take it with you when you go : Good Luck and pray for a smooth surgery for me :D

Hello All!! I have decided to get Lapband Surgery done even after my insurance company informed me that they do not cover weight loss surgery. The cost will be $18,000 not including each fill. This is a lot of money but I've spent this many times over the course of my life on new vehicles so I figure it's surely worth a lifestyle change!! I am very concerned though becuase I have done a ton of research and have read the blogs on this forum and it looks like there are a number of people that haven't been successfull losing weight. It also appears from what I'm reading the the after-care isn't always the greatest. I am terrified of spending this kind of money only to not lose weight. If anyone out there can give me any advise or make any sense of what I've read I would really appreciate it. Good luck to all of you!!!

  14. Congratulations. I must say I am amazed that you would be on the computer already. That makes me feel better. They told me I would sleep all day when I have my surgery next Tuesday. I think the sooner you get on the boards and talk about your experience the better. I hope !

Had my surgery today. Will say I felt miserable when I woke up in recovery but feel SOOOOO much better now! I have to give a shout out to my surgeon Brad Watkins, the staff of Cincy Weight Loss Center & all the nurses, anesthesioligists and other staff at university Hospital in West Chester Ohio. They are so caring!! That means ALOT. I had also lost 32 lbs on my preop diet.. I was AMAZED. I hope to use this board more often now & get to know the ppl on here.
