  1. I am glad you brought this up because I forgot to ask my doctor! My next appt is on Friday and I am sure as heck gonna ask! What's funny is my hubby and I were just talking about this yesterday! I think the when you feel physically ready answer is appropriate. Just don't swing from the chandeliers and I think you will be ok!
  2. I am 4 days post op and I feel like my stomach could already handle the pureed food stage. I feel hungry or maybe it's head hunger. Not sure if I just feel like chewing on something either. But I will say my stomach is sending out all the signals like it's hungry, it's growling and rumbling. I am trying so hard to stay on the liquid diet and follow the instructions. How do you get past this stage?
  3. Hi all! I had surgery on the 28th. I am having feelings of being "hungry". Like a growling in the stomach. Is this normal? It literally feels like I am starving like I would be when I had a normal size stomach. Then when I drink fluids it feels like pressure going down and then I burp a bit. Am I not sipping slow enough? I am trying to get my fluids in but the best seems to be the SF Popsicles and decaf flavored tea. As for the incision site I was having some pain but the hospital sent me home with an abdomen binder which really helps. I am taking the Loratab and am trying to stay on top of the pain. Also, I still haven't had a BM (I know TMI) but is this normal? I am passing gas. I can't believe I just posted that but I want to make sure I am on the right track! Other than that I am just hoping that I am doing this right. I hope you all have a happy new year! I will be ringing it in with chicken broth!
  4. Thank you for the suggestions! I will definitely try them all!
  5. Big Rick, I was also sleeved on 12-28! Congrats to both of us for taking the plunge! I am at home now and am experiencing the pain as well. I am on liquid Loratab and am living on chewable Gas X. I find that the more I walk around the better the gas comes up. Other than that I am sore on the left side where the drain was. I bought measured cups before the surgery and know that I need at least 48 oz of fluid so I am sipping slowly and keeping track as best as I can. Find something that doesn't sit to heavy. Right now I am loving the Crystal Light Cherry Limeaid. Keep your chin up. I hope it's gets better for both of us!
  6. Thank you! I don't know what I would do without the support of everyone on here!
  7. Tomorrow is the big day! My surgery is at 9:30am. I am so excited and nervous at the same time! I hope I can sleep tonight! Please wish me luck, I will check back when I come home on Thursday!

    Incision Site Pain

Just had my surgery on the 28th and I am having the same problem.
  9. Thank you everybody! Well, I am finally home. I got home last night. I am having a problems getting down the fluids along with the meds. Just too much for my stomach to handle. I guess I had a bad time of it in the recovery room but I am up and walking around and taking a bunch of cat naps. I can't shower until tomorrow so I feel really greasy. I am living on the gas tablets and I finally broke down and took some milk of magnesia to try and get things moving again. I had developed a cough about a week before surgery and that has caused me some pain in my recovery. Nothing like coughing when your stomach is already sore. On the plus side, I am down 7lbs in about 2 days. I just can't wait to recover so I can be more excited about it.
  10. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! What a way to bring in the new year!

Re Engauging The Couch To 5k.

that couch to 5k program is the best! Good luck!
  12. Hello all! Well, I am officially 22 days away from having surgery. I never thought I would get to this point. I was supposed to meet with the surgeon for the last appt today but they rescheduled me to the 15th. I was really mad at first because I have had that appt for 3 weeks and they bumped me for another patient who was an emergency. So after I calmed down I realized that it doesn't change my surgery date so I am ok with it. Sort of. I guess I was more anxious because the only requirement before the surgery was for me to lose 15lbs, which I have done. I just wanted to have it documented asap! I also found out that the doctor is not requiring a liquid diet prior to surgery just after. So all in all I will be able to eat during the Christmas season, within moderation of course. I just need to make sure the 15lbs stay off. Other than that I am waiting and while the days seem to be dragging by I am sure with Christmas right around the corner it will go fast. How is everybody else out there coping with their upcoming surgery? Getting anxious? Any tips for staying calm. Please share!
  13. Peacequeen, don't stress or be too hard on yourself. Remember this was something you wanted when you first started the process way back when. Don't forget the reasons why you are doing this and be gentle on yourself. Hugs!
  14. Well, I am 16 days away from my surgery! 12/28 cannot come fast enough and yes I am running through all of the emotions. The only nervous emotion I have had was filling out the advance medical directive and discussing it with my husband. He has been supportive through this process up to that particular point. I told him it's just a precaution. I have had many surgeries that were way harder than this one. I just wanted to make sure we are on the same page. Other than that, I will say, the rest of the emotions are all the positive ones. I am thinking about how good I am going to feel to finally have control over my life again. I started this process back in July and I am not going to back out. I have the chance to change my life for the better...forever. There is no way I am going to pass that up! Ironically, I have been able to drop 22 lbs without really trying. I think the dietician I met with should be congratulated! She completely changed the way I look at food. She actually made sense! For once I am actually looking forward to the new year because there is finally going to be a new me to go with it!
  15. So here is a question for those that have already been sleeved and have lost a good portion of their weight or have met their goal. Do people really treat you different? Do you receive more attention and are people nicer to you? I have a friend who had bariatric surgery and she said that people treated her different. That she had more confidence and received more looks was a bonus for her. But I am married so will my husband respond differently to? Any feedback would be great! Thanks! Cheri
  16. thank you for the input. I am also married to a man who loves me just the way I am. He knows my reasons for wanting this and is supportive so in that respect I am not worried. I just have read posts on here where weight loss causes problems in a relationship. I guess some men are more insecure than others.
  17. that is amazing! Congratulations! I am going in on the 28th! What a way to start the new year! We can post our recovery on here together. Good luck! Cheri
  18. thanks ladies! I am so excited about starting this new life. I do feel like I am in a dream world at times. There are days I still feel like I am missing something because I spent so many months going to appointments and battling with the insurance company, to not have anything else to do but wait, feels weird! I will say that if it weren't for this forum I would have lost my mind by now! So thank you to everyone!

    Dec.28 Pre- Op Diet?!?!

Welcome to the site! You and I are having surgery on the same exact date! As for the preop diet, if I were you I would try to start incorporating a Protein shake into your daily intake now. Replace one or two meals a day that way when you have to diet through the holidays it will not feel so overwhelming. But before you do all that make sure your doctor is going to require one. My doctor was only requiring that I lost 15lbs. I do not have to do a preop diet. Good luck!
  21. Hi there! Well, I started the process in July. I am now 26 days away from being sleeved (12/28/11)! :biggrin5: But there were a ton of appointments to contend with. Hang in there, it is worth it! I have an H M O insurance so I was initially denied and had to appeal a couple of times. Lots of time wasted there. I would have been sleeved already if they had not been trying to deny me at every turn. I have my final appointment with the surgeon on 12-6-11. I have to weigh in at 214 so wish me luck. For whatever reason the closer I get to this appointment date the hungrier I am getting. Maybe it's just nerves. But I know what's on the line here so I have been keeping myself in check. Good luck and keep us posted! Cheri
  22. that's because you lost all of your insulation! :hurray: I can totally live with that!
