    Egg Drop Soup

Anyone had hot & sour while in their liquid stage? I'm thinking if I just eat the broth while i'm on liquids only it would be good with that unjury protein powder or the flavorless powder (not sure yet since I am not on a pre-op diet yet). Once i'm on mushies or soft food could I have the tofu and some of the other stuff in the soup?

    A Wierd but Tasty Post-Op Meal/Snack

Mmm there are lots of yummy suggestions in this thread! I'm pre-op but I'm thinking about going to make a cream cheese, ham and pickle snack right now!

    FACIAL HAIR?

I keep reading about the hair loss from surgery and was hoping that would include my errant chin hairs!

    calories & carbs in vitamins?

Awesome, I didn't realize Costco had liquid multivitamins and liquid calcium! Adding that to my list of post-op stuff to buy.
  5. Mmm I wonder if the pineapple is any good?
  6. That's very reassuring to hear that people (even good friends) don't notice the condition of your plate. I take clients to lunch on a frequent basis and I have had some concern about dining out post-op, sounds like if I just push my food around a little it will not be a big deal at all.
  7. This is awesome and really helpful! I am not a 'sweets' person and honestly the idea of drinking those Protein shakes just makes my stomach churn, even though I haven't tried any of them. I'm hoping my nutritionist will have some good suggestions at my class next week.
  8. Oh my what a litany of things to deal with all at once! Hopefully all will resolve before your surgery. Good luck!
  9. I've been pretty lucky, just an initial consult/group session, psych eval, pre-op testing and nutrition class. That's all my surgeon's office requires. I would be frustrated because of the commute, for sure!
  10. Not terrible at all to try and get it done this calendar year! I'm doing the same thing, and once I have my VSG I am scheduling surgery for my plantar's warts on my foot to make sure I can get it done this year too! Between ER visit for my daughter, husband's vasectomy, and me and my husband's meds, we're about to meet our out of pocket max (probably today after my pre-op testing!) so between now and the end of the year we're going to get all our medical things taken care of while we are at 100%. Good luck with the dietician!
  11. Had all my pre-op testing today. They did bloodwork, urinalysis, chest X-ray, upper GI (holy cow, that barium is DISGUSTING!), ultrasound of belly and surrounding areas, EKG, and pulmonary function test. What a morning! It was worse because I was on the golf course yesterday all day in 100-degree heat, probably drank one too many beers and was dehydrated like crazy this morning (and couldn't have any water!). It was heavenly just rinsing out my mouth after brushing my teeth. One step closer to my surgery! I have my nutrition class next week and then 3 weeks from today I will be starting my new life!!

I'm being sleeved August 10 by Dr. David Diaz from Meridian Surgical Group/St. Vincent's Carmel.
  13. If you have short-term disability you should be in good shape either way. Good luck!
  14. Do you have a medical leave policy or any short-term disability available in case for some reason you're unable to return to work within a week? I am having my surgery on a Wednesday and plan to take Weds-Fri PTO and then work from home Monday (and maybe Tuesday if needed) so I'll have 6-7 days away from the office in a row. My short-term disability wouldn't kick in until the 8th consecutive day of an illness so I have to use PTO until then - but I'll go ahead and submit for a disability claim just in case I need to be off longer. If you don't have disability coverage and you're not yet eligible for FMLA, you should probably read your employer's policy pretty closely. Not that they would do this, but in theory if you exhaust your PTO time and you're not yet FMLA eligible, your employment could be terminated (again, not likely to happen but I believe in having all your ducks in a row on the front end!).

    6 Month Comparison

Congrats - I love looking at before/after and progress pics!
  16. I posted over on the vitamins/supplements board but must not be very active over there. I am pre-op (surgery scheduled for 8/10) - I haven't had my nutrition class yet and have this on my list to ask, but I have ulcerative colitis and have to take 9 pills a day of my colitis medication (3 3xday). I also take a blood pressure pill in the a.m. and as of now I take a multi-Vitamin and one Calcium tablet in a.m. and p.m. I am very nervous about taking that volume of pills when I have my new baby sleeve. Anyone else have lots of pills they take and do they have problems? They make a 1-a-day pill for colitis but it is extremely expensive and I hate to give up my cheaper generic.

Are you Sure you don't want??

Great idea on packing my own 'take-home' container! I also hate to waste the styrofoam . . . that's something else to add to my shopping list!

    Scrambled egg idea

I used to make those a lot when I was on Weight Watchers - we called them "crustless quiche" and I would add cheese, diced veggies, finely chopped bacon or sausage (turkey sausage might be a good option post-op).
  20. I'm very encouraged to hear that fast food cravings tend to subside after surgery. Unfortunately I am on the road a lot for work and fast food tends to be sometimes my only option. I love grilled chicken so I really hope post-op that my sleeve likes chicken (once I get back on solid foods of course).
  21. Ugh after reading this thread (and some of the others on here) I'm not excited at ALL about the protein thing. I too am a savory person and the thought of all this sweet stuff makes me gag. My mom had lap band last year and she mixes unjury chocolate powder with her coffee in the morning and it's tolerable, but I've only had a sip or two and not a whole cup of it.

Sleeved yesterday and just got home

Glad the gas pains are subsiding. I am very nervous about post-surgical pain, I'm a big baby! About being in the US and going home quickly - my doc says that he typically wants a 1-2 night stay in the hospital but every patient is a little different and he's OK with longer or shorter depending on one's recovery. I tend to tolerate surgery very well and actually went home from my c-section a day early, so I'm hoping the sleeve surgery will be the same.

    What to say to....

I told my good friends from work and they gave me the "you're not THAT heavy, you don't need surgery, blah blah blah." Of course they are 3 women who have never had a weight problem in their lives and have no idea what it's like to be caught in the weight loss spiral of losing, gaining, etc. They still think I'm doing something too rash but whatever, I just told them that it's the right thing for me and that I hope they will be supportive.
  24. Hi all, I just registered here and haven't had time to set up my profile or anything yet, but wanted to just intro myself and let all of you know how helpful I am finding this forum! I have surgery scheduled for August 10 and am doing all my pre-op testing July 20, and my nutritional class on July 28. I'm a little nervous but am looking forward to starting a 'new life' for myself. I have an almost-5 year old and a 14 year old stepson. Thanks for letting me participate! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions along the way.
  25. Good luck! I'm really enjoying this forum. Lots of good information.
