  1. I am drinking my first protein shake and these are not too bad. Has anyone ever blended with warm decaf coffee? I'm going to experiment tonight. Since these have 30 gms of protein and only 11 oz, I think this is my best bet as the other powders I've tried have grossed me out.
  2. Agree - my doc says any non-carbonated, sugar-free and caffeine-free fluids count - including decaf coffee and tea, milk, etc.
  3. I'm going back to work on day 7 - I'm hoping that my swelling is mostly gone by then, although most of my co-workers know about my surgery anyway so I'm not worried about it.
  4. I saw that article the other day. I think it makes a lot of sense, no matter how often I have tried to lose weight, I always return to this weight I am at now. Thanks for sharing!

    First Day Home

    Glad you are doing well!

    Am I bad?

My doc's list of full liquids (they call modified solids) includes all kinds of beans smushed up (refried is one of them), cottage cheese, oatmeal. I get to start these tomorrow, but I'm not going to go crazy right off the bat. I'm thinking mostly yogurt and maybe cottage cheese for the first couple days, then if I tolerate that well I will try the beans.

    Coffee rediscovered

Syntrax has a nectar protein powder that is cappucino flavored; I plan to mix that with my decaf in the mornings. I hate to give up my caffeine but at least I can have my decaf.

    Hungry Hungry Hippo

A lot of people on here have said that hunger after eating is likely due to acid. Are you taking anything for reflux or any antacid?
  9. I bought unflavored calcium crystals from Bariatric Advantage. My goal is to mix it with decaf coffee in the morning along with a packet of the nectar cappucino protein. Hoping that works for me and allows me to kill two birds with one stone.
  10. I didn't try the mixed berry package from Celebrate yet, but I wonder if it would dissolve in warm water better and then mix with cold water to drink it? Or maybe mix with crystal light or decaf tea? I'm willing to try anything, the chewable vites are gross as can be.

    Effexor XR post op?

My husband takes the generic Effexor XR and they are capsules. My surgeon said capsules are generally OK because they dissolve pretty quickly. He doesn't want me taking any tablets that are larger than an aspirin, though.
  12. Jamee - the stomach rumbling might be acid. Did your surgeon prescribe you any kind of antacid or reflux script? My only stomach rumbling has been due to gas, I do not feel hungry at all and only eat because i am supposed to. Jmiller - I have a case of Protein drinks from costco but I'm not supposed to start them until day 6 or until I have a bowel movement.
  13. There's also a combined multivite/calcium by Celebrate that is a powder, it's berry flavored. I haven't tried it yet but I have a single-serving. I think I may need to try it because the children's chewables I bought are DISGUSTING. I also had to buy chewable iron and I'm dreading that too, it smells horrible. I may try to dissolve it in Crystal Light but not sure how much better that will be.

    Effexor XR post op?

I take 3 capsules, 3 times a day for my ulcerative colitis - and they are pretty big. We tried to empty them into juice but it was AWFUL - like not even possible to drink. My surgeon is OK with me starting to take them tomorrow (my surgery was 8/10) - he just wants me to take one, wait 10-15 mins . . . so i'll be taking them all day long it will probably seem!

    8 days post op

Thanks for the update! I gained about 12 lbs as well from the fluids - I can tell i'm starting to get rid of them now because I'm peeing a lot more than what I am drinking. I can't wait to start full liquids tomorrow, a month of that then onto purees!

    2nd wave of All Stars!

I'm home from my surgery Weds! As far as the water, my doc wants at least 64 oz - they gave me a baby sippy cup that I think holds 8 oz and they want me to drink one every hour or so. I've had 40 oz so far since I was home and also had fluids in the hospital so I think I'm doing OK. I bought a large water bottle that doesn't have a straw (it has a sipping hole) so I think I'll start using that tomorrow so I can keep better track.
  17. 1. Did you have a lot of pain? Do you have a surgical history? ~ No real surgeries other than my c-section. I was just sleeved Weds and the pain is very bearable; I've started to pass the gas and that has made me feel 100% better. I just have some aching pain around incisions but nothing major. 2. Did you have a preop diet to shrink your liver? ~ My surgeon did not require a lengthy pre-op diet. The day before my surgery I had light Breakfast (oatmeal), full liquids for lunch (yogurt/applesauce) and clear liquid for dinner (popsicle and broth). 3. Did you keep up your pain medication? ~ I got my pain meds pretty regularly in the hospital but I came home this morning and only have had one dose since midnight last night. 4. How old are you? ~ 36
  18. My doc uses a 32 but doesn't staple right up to it, and he says in his experience it makes a perfect size. I've been able to handle clear liquids no problem the past few days and start on full liquids tomorrow so we'll see!
  19. I was sleeved Weds 8/10 and just came home today. I still have some localized gas pain and some soreness, but otherwise just tired. I get to start full liquids tomorrow so hopefully they will go down OK.
  20. Best of luck! I'll be one day behind you - I have to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

    Broken hearted

If she was dropped from insurance during the LOA period, she would have had to elected COBRA then. She's now outside of the eligibilty period to elect COBRA. Good luck, I hope you're able to find a position that better suits you AND that has insurance that will cover your hubby's surgery.

    Odd discomfort

Could it be residual gas pains? Hope it gets better soon, if not I would give your surgeon's office a call just to be safe.
  24. I am on Wednesday and can't wait!
  25. I've already been taking calcium and a multi-vitamin daily for years, so it will just be a matter of adding the B-1 and B-12 sublingual in for me. I will have to up my calcium (I was at 1200 mg daily, will up to 1500) and a little additional mulit-vite. I agree with others though, SO worth it!
