    When will I feel normal??

I was banded on the 6th and this weekend has been the first weekend where I've actually forgotten I even had surgery (2 weeks total). I started feeling better about 8-10 days out but I feel completely normal now at 2 weeks. The first week was really rough for me I could only handle water and about 2 oz of broth a day but slowly things started turning around.
  2. So I am 1 week post op and have moved to full liquids. I went back and read through my book and saw I should be eating "a teaspoon to a table spoon at a time" Uhmm this panics me because I can definitely eat more than that. I usually eat about 4 oz of Soup for a meal or half of a pudding/yogurt/applesauce cup at a time. Am I eating too much?? Today's meal: Breakfast 1 pudding cup (over 2 hours) Lunch: 1 applesauce cup Dinner: 1/2 pudding cup Snack: 1/2 yogurt cup Not a half of a cup but half of the little cups they come in at the grocery store. I know I'm totally lacking on Protein but my stomach can't handle it.
  3. I'm 2 weeks post op moving through the diet stages with .2 cc in my band (i think??) I'm in the process of switching doctors so it will probably be awhile before I get my first fill. I was just wondering....am I at risk for having food get "stuck" and not being able to tolerate certain foods with a basically empty band?

    Pureed foods

Today I started the "pureed" foods stage and have no idea what to eat. Are "mushies" pureed foods or soft foods? I have to be on pureed foods for a week before I can move to soft foods and I'm at a loss...I really just can't handle eating baby food for whatever reason it creeps me out. Does anyone have any recipes for pureed foods?

    Pureed foods

Those are great ideas thank you!! Did you puree the fish before you ate it or were you able to eat normal cooked fish?
  6. Hey! I see we were banded around the same time! If you're looking for a support buddy through this journey I'd love to keep in touch!

  7. Phew I am finally feeling better thank you! The first week and a half was really rough for me but things have definitely gone up from there! I'm on the pureed food stage now and have heard a few good recipes I'm going to try to make it seem like I'm eating "normally" (I just can't do baby food...i just can't do it lol)

    Pureed foods

I'm definitely going shopping tomorrow for some soups and refried beans! I honestly didn't think I would be so choosy once I got to this stage I mean I was basically drooling at the idea of refried beans in the first week lol.

Would you get an unfill if you were me?!!!

I just got my band and haven't had a fill yet. Can someone tell me what "PB" means? I see it on a lot of posts but haven't been able to figure out what it is

    post op liquid amounts

well I went to my dr and they told me I should be eating 1/2 a cup to 1 cup at each meal (They also acted like I should have known this). I can't help but be frustrated that NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT!! That should be written somewhere in the books or they should at least tell me before the procedure! I'm now on the pureed foods and there's information on this stage forward but I really don't appreciate how I was basically on my own for the first two weeks. I hope your doctor provides you with more info than mine =/
  11. So I am 1 week out of surgery and have just moved to full liquids. I have been eating about 1/2 a pudding cup at a time or 4 oz of cream Soup at a time throughout the day. I just went back and read through my book again and I realized it said I should be eating a teaspoon to a tablespoon of food "at a time" Does this mean I should be having a tablespoon of pudding/soup for a meal? I'm having trouble knowing how much food I should be eating. Overall how much should I be eating in a day? and how long did it take you to transition from clear to full to pureed etc. For example today I have eaten in total: 1-1 1/4 pudding snack 3 oz applesauce 2 oz yogurt
  12. I was banded exactly a week ago and have been struggling with knowing how much to eat. I'm on full liquids now and am only eating the things on the list but I'm pretty sure I'm eating more than I should be even though I don't feel "full" when I stop just satisfied. I'm having an incredibly hard time with all of this and to be completely honest have had more days of crying and regretting my decision and just wanting to be able to go eat a normal meal than I have of being happy (even though I've lost 13 lbs). For me, its been extremely rough.
  13. So i'm seeing a lot of posts about a a liquid pre op diet and I'm starting to panic because I don't think my dr. put me on one. I'm only on a liquid diet today as my surgery is tomorrow. My dr. said I should try to lose weight but he didn't put me on any specific diet plan....did I miss something??
  14. So my day has finally come and I am getting my band tomorrow! Any tips??

    pre op diet??

Thank you! Thats a relief to hear I was very worried I had messed up somehow!
  16. Thank you all for the tips! I definitely feel more prepared than I did before and am much less anxious. I'm excited to join you all on the other side and begin the journey to a healthier life!
  17. I am getting my band tomorrow and am trying my hardest to be excited but honestly I'm having trouble. It took me a few days to realize why I wasn't excited and today it finally hit me....I'm not nervous about the procedure (I've had surgery with my dr. before and trust him) I'm nervous that I won't have the self control to do this. I'm nervous because I'm sitting here fasting (Clear liquids only all day today) and all I want is a sandwich and that worries me. I'm trying really hard to focus on what the results can be. Earlier today I went online and found pictures of all the things I want but can't have because of my weight (ex: knee high boots, a flattering trench coat, a bracelet I LOVE but it can't fit around my wrist). So I can only tell you that I'm not super excited but I know that I don't regret my decision...I'm just not jumping up and down about it. I hope to get there the first time I hit a new goal....That will be a very exciting moment for me. I wish you the best of luck!!

    Dr. Enochs in Raleigh

Thank you! I'm very excited but still a little bit nervous...I'm more nervous about my own self control and being able to stay positive than I am about the actual procedure lol. Dr. Enochs removed my gall bladder a few weeks ago and it wasn't too terrible so I'm definitely comfortable with him.

I am getting my band this Saturday and am now very concerned. Has anyone noticed an improvement in this situation?

Used to being the "fat friend"

I'm so glad I found this topic! I'm getting my band on Saturday and was talking to my mom today about how I want to be able to go to a bar with my "thin friends" and just not stand out like a sore thumb (like I do now as the fat friend) One guy that was hitting on my friends was kind enough to introduce me to the Angry Birds game on my iPhone so I would have something to do while they were all chatting and flirting. Angry birds quickly became my go to activity when we were out lol. So I'm certainly not expecting to walk into bars and be the center of attention...I don't know if I'll ever have the confidence for that but I would LOVE IT if I could be viewed as an equal and not "the fat friend that needs to be entertained" MAN do I sound bitter lol but this kind of stuff really brings down my self esteem...
  21. I'm 22 years old and am scheduled to have surgery Aug 6. My parents were the ones that brought up the surgery but after learning about the procedure both of them have major concerns while I'm trying my hardest to not back out because of fear. I had to have my gall bladder removed a week ago in preparation for the surgery and that was unbelievably uncomfortable so I'm scared of being in serious pain again since he'll basically be using the same technique (single incision). However, my BIGGEST concern is- Is it possible to still be a normal 22 year old? I'm so worried about going out on dates and going out with friends and not being able to eat and drink at the same time and only eating a few bites of my meal. I have decided to keep my surgery a secret because my friends that I see on a daily basis are not exactly kind and supportive people. My close friends know but they live far away. I'm also starting my senior year at college Aug 22nd- according to the diet plan I'll still be eating baby food by then. 20 somethings and college kids help!! what was your experience like? Are you happy you had the surgery at a young age? Is there a good way to find local support groups that are age specific? I live in North Carolina.

    22 and scared...help!!

Thank you soo much this is all really helpful and is making me feel a lot more secure in my decision! I have to just keep the end goal of being happy and healthy in mind! I'm so glad I found this talk forum because I don't know anyone who has had this surgery and its really nice to be able to come here and chat with people my own age who really know what I'm going through! I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and I'm nervous but super excited!

    22 and scared...help!!

Thank you so much for sharing! Your comment actually got my mom back on board again so thats a big relief! Its always a good feeling to know that other people have gone through the same stuff. If you don't mind me asking another question...I'm having the surgery August 6th and have to head back to school August 13th or so...I am slightly worried about being on my own so quickly....how did you feel a week after your procedure? Were you able to go back to normal activities?
