  1. I have lost approx 125 lbs, my stomach looks like alot of flab, seen a liposuction dr. and he says i need tummy tuck and not liposuction....I have read in some places that liposuction works as well and don't have the discomfort and cost of tummy tuck. Has anyone out there experience this>

    Esophageal problems

I had my lapband in March of 2007, I have lost 100 lbs and I was 61 when I had the surgery. In the last year I have continually been having problems with my esophagus burning, lots of phelgm, purge some, I never had this problems before. Im just hoping its not caused by my lapband, I have heard on tv that it is one of the side effects, would like to hear from some of you that it has been at least a couple years since your lapband.

  4. How does one know if their band has slipped, it seems like when I get a fill, the first two weeks I think this is my fill spot, then within a couple more weeks I can eat anything and as much as I want, I don't understand why that is. Have any of you experienced this. Since I was self pay I don't know that I could afford to get my band fixed if it has slipped.

I lost 20 lbs, now I have to work at keeping that off, I don't get a fill til May8th and I am hungry all the time, although I have found the band itself gives enough restriction I can really overeat easily

Cascadian, I'm with you on the liquid diet, the Protein shake in the morning really sustains me pretty well until I'm around food, then I just want to ravish it. I was coming through Wichita yesterday and stopped at a chinese restaraunt and got me a large egg drop Soup and large hot & sour soup to go, I drank the egg drop soup on the road and last night I had the hot and sour soup, didn't figure the mushrooms and ginger in it could hurt me much. I have lots of nausea and also the squirts. I don't know if I can make it until the 29th. I've got to go to my primary physician today and get some for a cough and sinus drainage to assure I will be well enough to have the surgery. When I went for my pre-op yesterday the nurse that did it told me if you have much of a cough or congestion it may delay the surgery. Good to hear others experincing same problems
  8. Welcome Jaycee, you don't live far from me, I am in Kansas, keep us posted on your new journey.
  9. Hey, that is really great about you both being banded together, you are able to understand what each other is going through. I almost considered going to Mexico myself to Dr. Ortiz at TJ, it's just that I live in Kansas and it is so far to travel if I have any problems, I would have to be able to get a plane to San Diego, so by the time I paid for my plane tickets there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference in what I'm paying int Topeka.......Good luck to you both and keep us posted on how things go.

    March 2007 Bandsters

I have a terrible problem, I am being banded on the 28th and I have to start my liquid diet on the 18th. I have been going to my favorite places to eat every day and getting my favorite food there thinking it will be the last time I will ever be able to eat there. Last night I went to my favorite place that has ribs, usually I eat half of my order and take the other half home and eat it the next day, but last night I ate the whole meal. Its like I can't help myself, knowing that I'm going to be on the liquid diet Sunday and it will be a good 6 weeks or better before I can have real food. I am just craving all my favorite foods with the thought that I will probably never be able to eat and enjoy these foods again. I have to get over this feeling, I going to weigh more at my pre-op then i for my first consult. Has anyone else experienced this, I know its all in my head. I am so stuffed and bloated I can't hardly breathe. I am beginning to look forward to the 18th just so I can't do this anymore. Have I gone off the deep end?:hungry:

    Why are YOU Fat?

I was born into a fat family, we have always based everything we do around a meal, and you always tried everything on the table and cleaned your plate. Guess what, I raised my kids basically the same way. Thank God they have learned the errors of my ways and not raising there kids the way they were raised when it comes to food. It doesn't matter what my family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. did it was planned around, what food we were going to have or what restaurant we were going to meet at. The sad thing is the family that has passed on has passed on due to heart attacks and diabetes. Most of them died in their 60's. Thats too young. I am 62, I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes II, bad back and hip pain. I am determine to live out my life feeling good, that is why I am getting the band. I believe it is the tool that is going to help me start feeling better. Looking forward to 3/28/07.

Hi everyone, I have been browsing this sight for a long time, I have got a lot of information off of it, thank goodness for lapbandtalk, I have really learned more off here then all other things I have read and the seminar. Obviously we all have a weight problem or we wouldn't be on here, it is good to be able to share with people that are going through the same thing you are and know they really do understand. I am 62, weigh 285 and have a bmi of 48. I am so sick and tierd of being sick and tierd, I want to feel good, be able to cross my legs comfortably and walk and go up and down stairs without panting or hurting. I beleive the lapband is going to help me achieve this. I am so excited about having this done. I live in Kansas and will be having mine done in Topeka. Good luck and God Bless all of you Tallgrass Surgical Center Topeka, KS Dr. Dunshee 3/28/07

I was so glad to find this post, I will be banded on the 28th, i am so excited and a little apprehensive. I am self pay and worry that if something goes wrong I will have to pay extra, I doing good to pay the $12,000. I have been browsing this website for quite awhile and have really learned alot from everyone on this site. I am 61, i was wondering if there was anyone else out there close to my age, I am concerned with my age how well things will go, but if I don't do something I know how I will end up. It would be so nice to be able to walk without aching or climb steps without breathing heavy or be able play with my grandkids without getting short of breath, and be able to fly without asking for and extender. I wish you all the best of luck. Band 3/28/07 WT. 285/150 Dr. Dunshee Tallgrass Clinic, Topeka, KS. Start liquids 3/19

    Anyone else over 50??

I am 62 and I am planning on attending a seminar on Feb. 10th in Topeka, KS. I'm really looking forward to getting the band because I am so tierd of being sick and tierd. I'm going into it with a positive attitude. Actually I had a wonderful steak yesterday and got to thinking that if I get banded I will probably never be able to do that again. I've had to shake myself back into reality. I'm sure there is people older then me that has had it done

Hi Beckymit, I am also new, I am 62 and going to my first seminar Feb. 10th., I am so looking forward to having the lapband but I also worry about the first couple of weeks and the nausea. I plan on having mine done in Topeka, KS. by Dr. Dunshee, I had a friend that went to him and has done quite well. He is also cheaper then the KC or Wichita area. I have BC/BS PPO and they won't pay anything. This is quite a sacrifice for me to have to pay this out of pocket but I am so sick and tierd of being sick and tierd, I just made up my mind I am going to do this for me. My primary physician has encouraged me to do something for awhile now because I have so many illness because of my obesity. I'm jealous that you are going to get your's in a couple of weeks. Please keep me posted on how you are doing.
