  1. Thank you so much for posting this thread.... I was so pumped for my May 16th surgery... until yesterday, when I had my pre-op meeting with the surgery coordinator at the clinic. She went over the risks, and what to expect pre-op, during the operation, and post-op. She made me sign a paper stating that I know there is a risk of death associated with ANY procedure (rare risk, I know... but still, seeing it written out....)... also that if they cannot do it laporoscoplly, that they would have to do an open procedure, and I would need to consent to that (Which I absolutely do not want an open procedure, she said it's a rare (almost non-existent occurence in clients who have never had surgery before).. I know all this stuff is stuff that they LEGALLY have to tell you, and that the chances are higher that you'll win the lotto than have any of these side effects... but still. So when I got home last night, my crazy mind was going over all the 'what ifs', visions of my body laying dead on the OR table (I am so sorry if this scares anyone else), even the thought that the doctor would have my charts messed up and perform a bypass by mistake, or WORSE a heart removal (Now, I KNOW a heart removal isn't a typical surgical procedure.. but, hey, it COULD happen)..... Then my DH told me that if I had doubts, he'd support my decision to not have the surgery, just as he supported my decision TO have it... He told my that he noticed a new commitment to exercising and dieting and that I could probably do it by myself.. (Ok, sidebar, DH is literally the PICTURE of fitness, a personal trainer, with a basement full of 1/2 marathon trophies.. my husband doesn't have a 'pinch'able surface on his body...) So, this made me upset.. (in my crazy, going thru something big, mind).... I told him... "If i could do it on my own, don't you think I would have? Don't you think there have been a million diets that I started truly belieiving.. OMG this is going to be IT, I'm gonna stick to this one.. Do you think I EVER go into a diet thinking "I'll try this for a month or so, and then go back to grotesquely overeating, because that seems to be working for me"... So he replies... "Ok, then you want the surgery??".. And at that moment, I realized all the 'risks', as much as I'd rather just have a lapband installed via a fairy's magic wand, I need this lap band. ..and I'm going to do whatever it takes to get it. Sorry this was so wordy, I guess I just needed an outlet. Thanks for reading.

    I got my insurance approval!!!!

Congratulations!!!! That is SUPER!! You're gonna be a may bandster!!!!
  3. I'm due to have my surgery in 3 weeks (pending insurance approval)... I've been feverishy researching every morsel of information I can find on the band.... I came across this video of a girl who had the lap band, and was unsuccessful. She is at the doctor's office on the day of her gastric bypass, and has some pretty negative things to say about the band. I am curious about what you guys who've ALREADY been banded, think about what she has to say. ...... Same day surgery? Not here :-(

i just got back from my meeting with the bariatric coordinator.. I practically BEGGED her to not make me stay the two nights.. (Surgeries are on Wednesdays, discharges are on Friday around noon)...I complete get where you guys are coming from.. but nothing makes me feel better than lying in bed next to DH.... and the two nights away from my kiddos are gonna be torture :-( I would NEVER EVER leave AMA, but I do question why the extended stay.... The coordinator told me that this is how they've been doing it since the clinics inception, and they haven't had a single infection yet, and their post op complications are nearly non existent, so why mess with what's working?.... I guess I see her point... I'll just chalk this up to one more 'sacrifice' to becoming the new me :-)

Ok.. here's two more reasons for the "100 reasons to lose 100lbs" - I want my WHOLE BODY to stop moving when I stop moving (not 2-3 seconds later when I stop j i g g l i n g).. _ I want to be able to shower without having to *ahem* 'lift' any body parts for cleaning. :-)

Very new to the lap band process

Congratulations!! It's going to be AWESOME... and time will fly right by!! Good luck with everything!!! Welcome.

    HELP !!! I gained 3lbs.

It could be the scale.. I know you used a doctors scale.. but they are all calibrated differently... It could also be something as simple as a full bladder... You weight can fluctuate up to 5 lbs up or down a day... As tempting as it is... try not to weigh yourself between appointments. (I know it's hard... ok, ok, maybe even close to IMPOSSIBLE). Instead, go by how you FEEL... clothing fitting better?? Notice a little bit more muscle definition???

Let me be the first to say..... CONGRATULATIONS! Hopefully, you'll be a May bandster!! Wishing you a prompt surgery date.

Hey, I have another one.. I want to be able to buy a 'girlie' souvenier t-shirt when I go to theme parks, carnivals, shows, etc... instead of boxy tee shirts because those are the only ones that fit.

Ok, here's one of my reasons for losing 100lbs... So I can 'not' skydive because I'm scared to death to do it.. NOT because I'm to heavy for the parachute's weight limit. :-) (DH is an adrenaline junkie.. he'd skydive and bungee jump every day if he could.. me? Two feet planted firmly on the ground at all times :-)
  14. Eeeks... I'm so much more excited than I thought I would be... I am anticipating this SOO much... My doc just told me she submitted my case to the insurance company... and if I get approved, my date would be May 16th... However, she did mention that I shouldn't completely count on it, because they often get rejections on the first submission... but almost ALWAYS get approved the second time. YAY!!! :clap2: :clap2:

  18. It's actually a mini gastric bypass that she's comparing it to... I guess that's different from RNY. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo82IT1FlFc]YouTube - Failed Band Patient Converted to MGB[/ame]

I'm pretty sure it will be... since I was offered the option of using my primary doctor for weight tracking... BUT my PCP is anti bariatric surgery :-( So, I'd rather not deal too much with her.

:nervous Yep.. they do make you do 6 months supervised dieting.. but I'm going thru a Weight Management Center...so they do a whole 5 month program that includes seeing a nutritionist for pre and post op diet info, support groups, medical testing, it's a whole process... They submit at 5 mos... arggh.... I don't want to leave the house... every time the phone rings, I'm like... OMG it's them!!! :biggrin1: Glad I'm not the only one out there... so, did you find out yet?

    i'm an exercise-infomercial junkie!

Thanks Sonia for the info! I think cancelling the Fluidity bar was a good call, it was overpriced anyhow.

    Oh my... Insurance submitted!!

Hey Thanks, Drew's Lou... and Faith.. it doesn't matter WHAT the motivation was.. you still rocked it, girl :-) Way to go... So, did you make it to your goal, 335?? I still totally cannot get how someone can tell someone that they are too big for weight loss surgery... That's like saying your cholesterol is too high to be treated. Duh.

May 16th... perhaps. I'm just awaiting insurance approval. My md says that my insurance (BCBS) is famous for rejecting initial claims... but almost always approves on the second (or third) time... so I'm not getting my hopes COMPLETELY up... ok, ok, who am I kidding... it's ALL I'VE BEEN thinking about!!!!

    Oh my... Insurance submitted!!

    I second that.. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
