  1. I too have a BMI of 31 and I don't at all think that surgery is too drastic. You have to remember that surgery is a tool and it is not in any means a cure all for weight loss. There is not a surgery out there that cannot be sabotaged. That explains so many revisions. Also...over the years a pouch can stretch out and you can begin to gain weight. Look at the statistics....most people lose initially and then further out they may gain 10-15 lbs. sometimes more. I say go for it! The most important thing is to find a competent doctor and to choose the right surgery for you. Good luck on your weight loss journey!

I am considering vsg and I'm having trouble making a decision. My reasons for wanting it are back pain, lack of energy and yes, vanity. I feel like if I don't have the surgery that I will just continue gaining weight , and eventually my BMI will be much higher, and I will have wished I had addressed the problem earlier. Also, if I do have the surgery, I want to keep it secret from everyone but my family because I fear being judged. Any thoughts?

  2. So I went to my 2 month follow up today and the doctor is concerned about the things I have been eating for Breakfast, he wants me to get more Protein. I did explain to him that my stomach is a bit more temperamental in the morning.

I have been eating cream of wheat or yogurt and he thinks I should be eating more Protein rich foods. Half of an english muffin with Peanut Butter on it works for my stomach well but I can't eat that every day and I doubt my doctor wants me eating half of an english muffin.

I cannot eat eggs, my stomach doesn't like them or breakfast sausage at this point. Bacon works but again I can't eat that every day.

I do not like greek yogurt or cottage cheese.

Any ideas? perhaps someone will mention something I didn't think of.

Ok..I know you don't like greek yogurt. I don't either. I actually hate it. It tastes awful...BUT....I have made something with greek yogurt that is so delicious whenever I eat it I feel like I'm eating some kind of dessert. Take a 1oz packet of plain Quaker instant oatmeal and make it. Make sure it sits in the hot Water long enough to get sort of thick, Then get the brand Fage no fat yogurt a small 6oz. container. Mix it up really well so it is really creamy consistency. Slice some bananas into the hot oatmeal and then put the greek yogurt in there. Mix it all together. It is really good. I know it sounds atrocious but really it is good. If you try it I want to know what you think!!! And if you hate it...tell me!!!!

  3. How does the Sleeve compare to the VBG? Well..... most of my stomach was surgically removed is the difference. Did you have the mesh or silastic band? I'm doing fine so far, just be sure you find a surgeon with experience at doing VBG revisions.

I think I am going to Dr. Gagner in Montreal.

    Who did your surgery?

I had a mesh band. Do you know what the difference is and does it make it difference for the revision?

    Thanks!

  4. Well, I can answer that I had a drain placed immediately from surgery- but I was revised from the VBG to the sleeve not the lap band. Basically, the drain is used to help carry out excess drainage. They left the drain in me for a few days after I was discharged from the hospital. I was nervous about having it removed but it wasn't that bad actually- mostly just uncomfortable.

    Not sure if that helps.

    Hi!

I had a VBG 14 years ago and I am looking to have a VSG. How are you doing with the sleeve and how does it compare to the VBG?

    Thanks!

  5. You have to come to the chat room some time!!!

It is so much fun to talk to others and share experiences and learn from others.

The word chat is written across the top of the website. Just click on in after you sign in and it will get you into the chat room. But not today!! Apparently something is wrong with the chat room today. Maybe try later today or tomorrow. Sometimes things can be down for a whole weekend. So keep trying!
