  1. i just had the lapband a month ago but I notice shoulder and back pain after I eat too much also. hmmm.

It's been 2 years since I've had lap band surgery. Recently I've noticed left shoulder pain and after having it for a month or so can finally associate it with after eating. I describe it as shoulder pain but it's really more like under my left collar bone really. I've read some research about referred pain from the phrenic nerve in the diaphragm and wonder how unusual this is among other bandsters. I have read posts about people having revisions due to pain and that's not something I want to face. In fact my pain is only present after larger meals. Possible I could be eating too much but just would like to get some feedback. Attempt not to scare me too much lol :) I'm a nurse who already over thinks life lol~

  2. had the lap band on the 9th of august. not sure if this is a silly question or not, have just started on cream Soups and looking forward to puree tomorrow.

question: what does feeling full feel like? is it the same feeling as before? I feel real full right now after a bit of pureed potato Soup, not sure if this a full feeling or just stomach hurting from stomach getting used to something other than liquid.< /p>

    comments please

  3. mashed potatoes ok, puree chicken just put a small amount in blender and puree, veggies too, just puree, carrots are the best,,, I start this on wed, cottage cheese ok, scrambled eggs(mushy) I will be eating mostly chicken and mashed potatoes, plain yogurt ok too hope this helps

Today I started the "pureed" foods stage and have no idea what to eat. Are "mushies" pureed foods or soft foods? I have to be on pureed foods for a week before I can move to soft foods and I'm at a loss...I really just can't handle eating baby food for whatever reason it creeps me out. Does anyone have any recipes for pureed foods?

  4. I have about the same amount as you, I started out at 200, lost 17 lbs. before surgery diet, had my surgery one week ago and now have lost another 5 lbs. slow and steady, want to get down to 125. I am short, 5 foot 3 and small boned so that should be good. I was trying to do that weight ticker, found the site, went in and set it up and then how do I get it back onto here? thanks for the help and good luck.

So I am 1 1/2 weeks out and I am feeling good. I have exersized for 3 days. I am not getting as hungry as I used to and I feel like I am eating right. I am seeing a steady loss of .5 to .75 lbs a day. I have not gotten choaked. I just burp more than I used to. No big deal. I know that things will slow down and im sure the hard part is yet to come, but I am very pleasantly suprised. I have my first follow up apt with my Dr on Wednesday. I am looking forward to it.

  5. Just saw that you have Dr. Madan, thats my doctor as well, I had the surgery on the 9th and you are so lucky, he is amazing and caring, my Constipation was very rare because I had a muscle relaxer for big back pain before surgery- and it constipated me so I hadnt had a bowel movement for 5 days before surgery or the surgery would have been a breeze, Dr. Madan was there for me, he is fabulous..... good luck.... my e-mail is sheryl52@mindspring.com and I will be very very happy to hold your hand if you want to e-mail. take care.

I can't believe it is only 10 more days until my banding. I have waited so long and had totally committed to the journey. I quit smoking back in June and went to all my appointments and did everything I was supposed to. Now I am nervous reading all the posts on after pain. i am a big baby and I burned my arm tonight while cooking and groaned about the pain for over an hour. I am also pertrified to be put under anesthesia with the tube down my throat and all. I keep thinking what if I don't wake up, what if something goes wrong. I hope this is normal pre thoughts because I have come to far to ruin it all. My youngest who is 11 is very unhappy that I am going to do this and that doesn't really help but I no she loves me and is just scared.

  6. just had the surgery 6 days ago, pain from insision and laproscopic surgery is very very minimal, be careful of vicadin, if you dont have pain, dont take it, take liquid tylenol, i became so constipated and dehydrated that i ended up in the ER with an IV to give me fluids because I didnt follow instructions which is why I am giving you a heads up...... just take the pain reliever if you need it for a day or two but be very very careful of Constipation and take ducalax for that and gas X,,,, most important.... this is the lesson I have learned the hard way.....

  7. OMG, got banded on the 9th. ended up in the ER yesterday, dehydrated, didnt drink enough Water, the Constipation is so intense, guess its guess also; this is day 4 and I just need the constipation to quit, think its gas too. lungs hurt too. how are you doing with the drinking? soooooooooo important, hard for me because I feel so full.

I had my surgery on August 11. I did well, today ohhhhhhh lawd, my sides hurt, im uncomfortable, I need to lay flat, on my side then I need to sit up straight. I cant make up my mind. My side feels like some one has stabbed me, my lungs hurt when I take a deep breath. Let's talk about my BELLY... The top part feels like its bloated..Its soft..I need to fart and burp..When I do it just makes room for more gas pain. GAS X AND TUMS..help a little just enough for a tease of a fart and burp..HELP...Im drinking my broth fine, I actually like it. I had yogurt today. I'm not hungry.

  8. good for you

I too have done a preop diet and am proud of myself since I havent had a successful run in over 20 years, I started at 200, have lost 17 pounds and am getting the lapband on tuesday august 9th.nervous but excited. any post op advice you can give me for the recovery is greatly appreciated. take care and good luck

Did a little bit of reflecting over the weekend, and I've come to realize that I LOVE that I had a 2 week Protein shake only liquid diet. Yes, you read that right. This coming from the girl that kicked, screamed, and complained through most of the preop diet. I know that some people are not required (or are required to do the liquid only diet and choose not to), but boy am I glad that my surgeon requires it. Here's why. I truly appreciate every piece of food that goes into my mouth...most importantly the healthy stuff. And of course, it did jump start my weightloss.

Before the band and before the preop diet, I wasn't a binger. Yes, I ate too much food, but not bingeing. And I am a complete carb queen...and chocolate fanatic, sugar addict, lol you get the point. Vegetables, whole foods and healthy foods were not a part of my daily diet. I even counted ice cream as a milk product when on Weight Watchers. Most days of the week I ate ALL my meals at fast food restaurants. This morning when I ate a hardboiled egg with 1 oz of low fat cheddar cheese, salt and pepper, I was content. My insides felt good (weird, I know lol). Now if I were to rewind back to May of this last year, I would've had a Dunking Donuts croissant with eggs and cheese and a medium iced caramel latte with whipped cream for breakfast and I never felt full or content.

I know I have the band to thank for this, but it's more than that. Being "deprived" of the garbage food I was eating really helped me gain perspective. My body was created perfectly by God (sorry if others believe otherwise, don't want to create waves here) and I was slowly destroying what He gave me. I feel back on track and happy with my new way of eating and my new way of thinking. Yes, at the beginning of my recovery time I did think "omgosh what did I do?" because of the discomfort I was in on my second day post op, but it did pass and I felt brand new on day 5.

So anyone that is about to start or in the middle of their preop diet, YOU CAN DO IT! It truly does get easier, I promise you that! And once the preop diet is over, I hope you can relate to what I've said.

    Best of luck everyone :)

  9. Hi there my surgery date is July 28th, I am Sheryl and my e-mail is sheryl52@mindspring.com if you want to keep chatting. I am 59 and very nervous too, I am doing this because of pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and also back pains.

am doing all my pre-ops right now, am having the surgery thru insurance in Beverly Hills.

    how bout you?

love to keep in touch and support each other.

    Sheryl

Hi all 7/11 bandsters.....I have a date of July 25th. Excited and nervous. I'm much older than most on this site and have researched this for over a year and think it will help me with my blood pressure and knee problems and back issues too. Hope so. A little nervous reading some complications on this site about auto-immune disease after being banded but my doctor assured me there is no connection with the two. Also emailed Allergan who makes the band and will read all the stats. I think I'm over thinking this band ..... I hope I can just relax and enjoy it. Good Luck to all.
