  1. Hello Everyone!!

I am 3 months post opp and so far I've been doing well. I went for my second fill on 10/25/11 (2 weeks ago). I'm just a little confused, I have 6cc's in a 14 cc band, the first week I had great restriction then I got a stomach bug and spent an entire night dry heaving. I never "threw up" but since then I only seem to have restriction first thing in the morning, by lunch time I have ZERO restriction. I haven't had any pain or anything that would make me think I have a slip, but could i have one? Can dry heaving but never throwing up cause a slip? Would I have the restriction in the mornings if I did have a slip? Is it normal for your "restriction" to go away that suddenly? I'm just a little confused about the matter & any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. My next fill appt isn't until Nov 29th, should I make a check up appt before then?

  2. :bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide: I'm finally in "BAND-LAND"!!!! After a long bumpy ride trying to get here I finally arrived and I could not be happier!! I arrived at the hospital at 5am yesterday morning (8/29/2011), I was the first surgery of the day so they took me right back and preped me and I was in the O.R. by 7am. My nurses and and surgery team were so nice! They went above and beyond my expectations! I had a hirena that had to be repaired during surgery so I am quite sore, but as long as I sit still I do not hurt at all, which is a plesant surprise! I was really worried about the gas pains, as some people (including my husband) experience AWFUL gas pains post op, but so far mine have been minimal. I am so excited to begin this new chapter in my life!!! I would just like to say THANK YOU to all the friends I have made on this site who have been a great deal of comfort and support during the last few months, you are all wonderful!!!:bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide:

  3. I am going to call at 8am in the morning when they open. If he gives me any crap tomorrow I am changing surgeons! Tis crap with him started 2 months ago! He told me "lose 20 lbs and you will be ready for surgery", so I lost the 20 lbs and he said I needed to lose 20 more, so I lost 20 more, then he says I still don't think you have lost enough and I said "LOOK I have done everything you have asked and I want my band!!" So he tells me to buy there Protein Shakes ($65 for a weeks supply!!) and do 3 weeks on those and I can have my surgery and he set the date for 8/29/11. The Protein shakes are AWFUL and I have stuck strictly to him and now he pulls this bull crap! I am beyond fed up. You're damn right I want answers AND I WANT MY BAND!!!!!!!! Losing 56 lbs for a fat girl with a lazy thyroid has been beyond difficult! I have worked myself to death, went hungry for weeks, tolerated those horrible shakes that do not do anything for my hunger what so ever, and this surgeon just keeps yanking me around!!!!!

  4. Wheww... Ok so here is the run down of the past few days. As most of you know I was scheualed for surgery Monday Aug. 29th at 6am. Well yesterday my sergon's office called and said that my surgeon wanted me to come the next morning to get an ultrasound so they could messure my liver and make sure it had shrank enough for surgery, an ultrasound that 2 weeks ago he said there was no need to do!! So I go this morning as soon as they open to get my orders to have the ultrasond, I go have it done (my liver thickness at the lower left lobe was 3.8 I have no idea what a normal liver messures so if you do please feel free to share) the tech tells me that she will send it to the surgeon and his office should get back with me in a couple of hours. So the whole days goes by and about 2 this afternoon I call the office to see what's going on because I have not heard back from them, they tell me if I haven't heard back by 5pm to call them first thing in the morning. It is 7pm now, I have not heard from the office, I do not know if my surgery is Monday or not, and I am STRESSED to the max!! I am so fed up with this surgeon and the whole process for that matter!! "wanting to scream" isn't the half of it!!!!!

  5. I also think you should consider getting another surgeon. There are many good bariatric surgeons.....and it might be a good thing to go to a different dr. than your husband. Get another opinion and if they do approve you for the surgery you will really be pumped up about it!!!

Good Luck with whatever choices you make and eventually it will happen for you. God Bless You. CAT

I haven't changed surgeons because there are only 2 in our area, the next closest one in about 3 hours away. I checked into it and the surgery center here said it can be near impossible to get a surgeon here to do your fills if he didn't put in your band. That being said, I cant afford to have to make a 6 hour round trip once a month to get fills. :(

  6. I finally got my surgery date!!!!! I will be banded on Aug. 29th!!! I am beyond excited. My surgeon was a bit of a jerk at our last meeting, after him telling me what I had to lose to get my band I lost it and then he still didn't want to do surgery!! He Say's "I think you need to lose another 15-20 lbs" Keep in mind I've lost 46lbs already. I just flat out told him "look, I have done EVERYTHING you have told me to do and I want my band! Either you can do it or someone else will!" He acted a little taken back, but I got my surgery date. If it weren't for the fact of this surgical center being the only one around for a couple hundred miles that does this type of surgery I surly would have taken my business else where, but I don't want to have issues getting fills close to home if I leave this surgery center. I am on all liquid (up to 5 Protein Shakes a day and nothing else) diet from now until my surgery date, but that is fine by me!! I am just so ready to get my band!! This process has taken a year!!

  7. I just love this thread! I am pre band and also have hypothyroidism. I have lost almost 40 lbs over the past year just trying to get approved for the band and it has been incredibly hard, but I haven't given up. I always come here and read all these posts from the "hypo bandster" and y'all keep me going! I just wanted to say THANK YOU ALL for sharing. :D

  8. My husband is almost 3 weeks post opp and is experiencing the same thing, sever pain in his lower back and around into his lower abdomen. He isn't one to complain about pain, he didn't even complain in the first few days after his band was put in, so when he came home from work 2 nights ago in tears I took him to the ER. After 6 hours in the ER, a urine test, blood tests, and a cat scan, they told him his band looked fine and sent him home saying he has a stomach bug! "What the heck?!" I thought. Since when does a "stomach bug" make you hurt like that?! We came home and called his surgeon and the surgeon said to "wait a few days and see if it goes away". OK so now I am pissed! My husband is in extreme pain and no one seems to think anything is wrong! We have him an appt with our family Dr. 2 days from now (thats the soonest they could work him in), he is drinking liquid Tylenol as often as he can take it and it isn't even touching the pain. I hate that you are going threw the same thing, but I would love to know whats causing it!!

  9. Hello All!! Just wanted to touch base with those of you who have been following this thread. Thank you all for the support and kind words!! Right now I am just working hard and following my diet to try to get these lbs off by the 8th when I see the surgeon again. What he tells me on the 8th will determine if I will find another surgeon or not. If he says I've lost enough to get my band well then he can give it to me and if he says I haven't lost enough well then I will seek a second opinion. :) Trying to stay positive and focused!!

  10. Whew! Glad to hear I'm not the only one craving vinegar!! Thought something was wrong with me LOL. I've been on a liquid diet and soon after starting all liquid I started craving vinegar. I researched and found that as long as it is distiled it wont hurt anything and it has actually curbed my cravings for solid food!! When I crave solid food I pour an ounce or two of vinegar in a little cup and drink it (I know it sounds totally crazy). The craving for vinegar subsides for a while and I forget all about wanting solid food! It has really been a blessing cause as most of us know doing a liquid diet is FAR from easy!!

  11. Thank y'all for the kind words and support. My hubby had his surgery yesterday and is doing wonderful. I am a little envious that I'm not recovering right along side him tho LOL. I did go weigh yesterday while we were at the hospital and I have to say that I am quite disappointed in myself. After a week of one small Small meal a day ( 4oz poultry & a hand full of raw spinach), 2 Atkins shakes a day (1 for Breakfast & another for dinner), going to the gym twice a day, and drinking Water like I am part fish, I have lost half a pound!!! Seriously?! Half a pound?! I don't get it! I want my band more than anything and I am giving it my all but obviously my all isn't good enough. At this rate I will never lose that 25 lbs and get my band.

  12. My husband is being banded Wednesday and myself sometime next month and our surgeon reguires 10 days of the Lovenox injections as well. 1 injection the night before surgery and one a night for 9 nights following. I believe the like the element of surprise because no one mentioned this in the first 9 months of our pre surgery process, not that it would have mattered much, but it still would have been nice to know. I'm fine with giving my hubby the injection  but no so much with injecting myself (LOL) thinking he may have to give me mine.
