  1. That's normal. It really depends on how much you weighed when you had surgery. The higher the weight, the faster the loss. The first month will be the most, then it will start slowing down. Again, though, that will depend on how much you needed to lose. It may take several months to slow down if you had a lot to lose. Someone with a higher BMI generally loses faster than someone with a low starting BMI.

A lot also depends how "on program" you are.smile.gif

weight at surgery was 228 down to 221 now...bmi was 40.7

  2. well it depends on what ur protocol says and how heavy and how fatty ur liver is...!!! u need to shrink ur liver and liquid diet is the way to do that......i have heard of surgeons who after they open u up and see that ur liver has not shrunk, will not continue the surgery if ur liver is still too fatty....do u really want to take that chance?

in the early days of my diet i ate Tomato Soup (no chunks) for dinner and added a few spoon full of french fried onions , the ones u put on thanks giving green bean casserole, it helped a lot to fool my mind into thinking i ate a meal.....but i only did that twice early one.....i left off the onions later.....

people here have different diets, some allow some foods and others none.....mine only allowed Protein Shakes, Water and broth and i got permission for the Tomato Soup thinned with water.....u can not go by other people's diets......

  3. This is just to make some of you pre op ladies and gents aware of the dangers of meds and or issues u may come across......

I was scheduled for vsg surgery for the 26th july but two weeks ago when my blood test came back, they found i had the Hpylori stomach virus.....No big deal, get the Helidac Therapy antibiotic treatment for two weeks and all is right with the world......well didn't quite work out that way.....on day 7 of the treatment I went into a seizure at night and was rushed into the hospital......come to find out the medicine caused the seizure (and it clearly states in the booklet that it can cause seizures but u trust what ur doc gives you right?) I spent 2 days in the hospital, was put on seizure meds for the forseable future, lost my driving privilege for 6 months

(state law for seizure patients , depending where u live can be 1 year) and lost my surgery date........I have never had a seizure in my life nor in my family......if u happen to come down with that virus, and it is a very common virus....8 out of 10 people have it and don't know it.....get a different prescription than the helidac therapy......it contains FLAGYL which causes seizures.....there are many who took it and had no ill effects, but u never know.....hell i didn't........at least u know u have a choice to ask for something different-----something not containing Flagyl....

the only good thing is that the 7 days were enough to kill the virus for me and i was re scheduled for surgery on my birthday...august 2nd.....YAY.....but damn i miss driving my 300C.. lol

  4. Interesting....I'm also on the Helidac. My doc didn't say what kind of virus I had though. Just that I had a stomach virus.

    Good luck with everything!!

if u are on the helidac u have hpylori virus.........be very careful with that medicine.......look on the box it tells u it causes seizures.....the bad thing is no one knows who will get it......only ur body knows if it is allergic to flagyl........i can from now on never ever take anything with flagyl again......hmm and if u do get a seizure? guess what? u loose ur driving priviliges for 6 months to a year depending on ur state.....sucks!!!!....i have never had a seizure in my life before lol.......and hopefully never will again...

  5. ok, as some of u know i had the h.pylori virus 2 1/2 weeks ago and was to take helidac therapy antibiotics for 14 days but on day 7 it caused me to have a seizure..off the meds i came ...surgery was supposed to be tomorrow but obviosly got cancelled......got re checked a few days ago and even though i wasnt on any meds other than the topomax for seizures ----- YES------ it is gone now.........poof......surgery re scheduled for August 2, which happens to also be my birthday.....double YAY....i start my pre- op diet in the morning...thank god its only a week........7 days to go.....im sooo psyched.....so i will join u ladies and gents soon on the looser's bench......

  6. keep reminding yourself that you will be able to still eat what you want to eat after the surgery just less often and smaller quantities also work on your sugar/insulin because you will have to get that under control for the surgery....you are not going to miss out on anything after the surgery, actualy u will have a better quality of life.....work on it one day at a time, one bite at a time......

  7. Just a word of advise/caution for all you pre op ladies and gents........If u happen to come down with this stomach lining virus when they do ur blood test and the doctor wants to give you the HELIDAC THERAPY antibiotic for it......have them give you something else!!!!....this antibiotic (flagyl) is known to cause seizures and the docs know it..........it gave me a seizure (on day 7 of taking them) , now i have to take anti seizure med's, ( and they are no picnic), lost my driving privilege for 6 months (state law when u have seizures) and had to re schedule my surgery date..................trying to save someone else from this head ache...

  8. i have a seizure disorder and i stil had the surgery. i have them when i sleep sometimes and nobody can tell me why!! strange, but true!

had my first one about 14 years ago and had about 4 in 10 years. Haven't had any in about 6 years, but take really good meds now. Topamax works wonders for mine!!

it should not postpone anything. it has nothing to do with your stomach!! Don't worry!!

    Kelly

Thanks that makes me feel soo much better....at least im not alone

  9. hmm not getting too many answers so i figured i ask here........do any of u have seizures /epilepsi and still had this surgery done? my surgery got post poned due to a seizure brought on by antibiotics for a stomach virus..........just wondering if i will still be able to get surgery?
