Aetna Approval but on a out patient basis - nervous
I have Aetna and it said the same thing... My surgery was two days ago. I didnt have to stay over night. My surgery was at 9:30 and I was out by 3:00. They just want to make sure your vitals are good, you can pee, you can swallow and you can walk.... Then you're good to go! Good luck!

Finally on the other side!
Thanks Amy. I just called and he said my band is just too tight and I'm swollen. He wants me to come in first thing in the morning and get some Fluid taken out.

Finally on the other side!
Thanks for the advice... I've been trying to tough it out a little but I'm in a pretty good amount of pain. The gas is killing me. Its just that my oxycodone is in pill form and really hurts to swallow... I cut them into fours but it still hurts. I'm not getting much of anything down right now... Even full liquids like soup are hurting now. I'm contemplating going to the ER to get some liquid pain meds... But maybe I'll just wait til morning and have my dr call some in. I'll just keep on walking! Sorry to complain... I am very excited to get past this initial phase... Hopefully I won't have too much of this pain left :-) thanks for all y'all's support!

How many hours in the hospital?
I had surgery yesterday. My check-in time was 7 AM. I believe I left the hospital around 3:00. I was having some pain so they gave me some medicine which made me sleep for a couple hours... If it weren't for that I could have gone home sooner, I guess. They wanted to make sure my vitals were good, I could pee, drink and walk around before I could check out. But apparently I needed a little nap too :-)

Finally on the other side!
Welp! I'm finally joining the post op side! My surgery was yesterday morning and it's been a pretty rough 24 hours or so, but I'm still here! The gas pains are pretty terrible, I'm not going to lie. I have to be standing and walking around or sitting straight up like a stick at all times. Last night I slept( for about three hours and waking up every 30-45 minutes) in my wing back chair with two pillows behind me. It's been quite the experience. But I know it's only getting better from here and I'm so happy I've finally begun my new life. I have absolutely no hunger but I do have a great amount of thirst. Today I started full liquids for the next three weeks. I tried to drink some Soup but only got down about 1/2 cup. Then I tried to drink a runny yogurt smoothie thing which is 6 ounces and only got about 2 oz of that down. But I've been sipping on Water all day... My doctor wants me drinking 1-2 gallons of fluids a day... Hmm I think I only got in about 40 oz yesterday... But I will try to do better today. Anyway, thank you guys for your support! Please fill me in on what your first few days were like! Thanks!

My surgery is at 9 AM tomorrow too... How are you doing? Feeling nervous at all? I am a bit... More just anxious. I'm ready for it to be here and over with. Haha trying to clean and keep myself busy!

Less than 12 hours!
Welp... It's almost time! Less than 12 hours and I will be at the hospital. I can't believe it's finally time. I am beyond anxious. I'm cleaning my house like crazy... Trying to keep myself busy. And then sometimes I have these moments where I find myself sitting on the couch for 20 minutes just thinking about what's to come... Ah! I wish I could just go to bed now and wake up and go... But alas, it's time to watch the bachelorette :-) Say a prayer for me! Thanks!

Wow

What was your post op experience?
So my surgery is Tuesday and I'm starting to get pretty nervous. I guess im just nervous about the whole "unknown" thing. I've never had surgery before so I have no idea what post-op life is like. I'm nervous about the pain... What was your experience like? Also, I'm beginning to get nervous about the lifestyle Change. I am more than ready for this.. I'm just nervous. What has been your most difficult adjustment? And what have been your greatest rewards? Ah! I wish Tuesday would just get here so I can stop freaking out.

Nervous, anxious, excited.... But I know everything will go smoothly. I've never had surgery before so I just don't know what to expect! Anyway, good luck! Nice to meet you!

August 2011 Bandsters????
My surgery is next Tuesday as well. Good luck! I too am feeling less energetic with only on liquids during the day... But I do get a high protein dinner so that helps. Good luck!

Bruises
Iron. You're probably not getting as much iron because you're not eating much. Meat, fruit, leafy greens all have lots of iron. Good luck!

Bread
When you say sometimes you can eat certain foods and sometimes you can't... How do you know you can't? Is it a stuck feeling? And sliming feeling? Or is it like you feel like you may get stuck if you keep eating it? I'm asking because I'm not banded yet (will be in 9 days!!) and I'm very nervous about trying certain foods once that day comes... Like white chicken, fruit, some veggies, bread etc... I know it's probably bound to happen eventually... But I just have this fear of getting stuck. Anyway, I guess my question is, what does it feel like when you know you shouldn't continue eating something? Thanks!

How should I prepare?
My surgery is a week from Tuesday and I'm starting to put together a list of things I need to get and take care of prior to my surgery. for example, I know I need to make some chicken broth, buy a heating pad... Etc... Is there anything you experiences bandsters can think of that I may not have thought of? Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

low carb tortillas?
My surgeon and nutritionist both told me not to have any of the "experimental" foods until after 6 months...

HOW MUCH IN ONE MEAL
I am not banded yet so I can't tell you how much I eat... But my surgeon and nutritionist both say 1-1 1/2 cups of food 3x daily. Try not to snack but if I do, high Protein. I can believe your doctor says 3-6 bites!! That seems insane! Don't you feel weak? I think I would... I would get a new surgeon. Maybe youre not losing weight because you aren't taking in enough calories..? My doctor(and it seems like other people's surgeons agree..) saying you should eat 1/2 cup of protein. 1/2 cup of healthy veggies and then if you have room, more veggies or fruit. Are you getting enough protein in? My doc recommends AT LEAST 60 grams a day. Good luck! I really hope you figure this out... I would definitely look for a different doctor.

Do not have to do a pre op liquid diet...am I in trouble?
My surgeon told me that the low carb diet won't actually shrink your liver within a week or two... It needs much more time to actually shrink the liver. But he said when the liver isn't processing carbs, it makes the liver very soft and moveable which is what they need for surgery. He says he's had patients that didn't go on the low carb diet before surgery and their liver was the consistency of cat food.... Eww!

August 2011 Bandsters????
That sucks.. I'm sorry. Something similar happened to me... My doctor had moved and I was unaware, therefor, it took me a few unexpected weeks to get in with another doctor. I was super bummed... So I understand. But all is well now and my surgery date is scheduled for august 2nd... So you'll get there! The set back sucks though.

Woohoo!
Thanks ladies! It feels so surreal... I'm a tad nervous about the actual surgery but the excitement for the life change outweighs any fears :-)
