  1. I think that depends on what you expect from the surgery. I decided to go with the Lap Band because the gastric scared me. So far, I have been happy with it. However, the weight loss is much slower than with gastric. I am 4 weeks out and have lost 20 pounds. I have not lost in 12 days, but Dr. Enochs explained that once I started getting fills it would come off faster. If you want to the weight off faster and do not mind a longer recovery time and more risks, you may want to go with gastric. However, I wanted to take the weight off more slowly (I think will be healthier in my case). Also, please consider that with the Lap Band, you will have to do a lot of the work yourself. Whereas with the gastric, you will not be able to eat many of the foods that can cause weight issues (breads, for example). My issue is portion control, and the Lap Band will help me with that while still allowing me to eat some of the foods that I love. I am excited about beginning my new life!! I wish you the best with whatever you decide. Let me know if you want to go to a support meeting at Rex. We both are from the Smithfield area.
