    Food Addiction SUCKS!!!

I was like that too and gained weight back before my surgery. I still crave certain foods, but the cravings are short lived and are in head. Once you have surgery, you'll do fine!
  4. 7 to 10 days may be enough for you. Everyone responds to the surgery, anest. differently and it depends on the type of job you have--active vs. sedentary. I have taken 4 weeks (partly because I needed to use up some leave) but could have returned at 10 days as I wasn't in much discomfort. The only issue I would have had would have been eating, which I would have been on the pureed stage at that point. If you plan really well and are not in any pain or having discomfort, you should be fine returning to work by 9/26. Good luck!

    Hunger

I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out and I find that I have more head hunger than actual hunger. I crave certain things, but I have not given in to any of the cravings. Distracting yourself until the craving passes which is only a couple of minutes. I tried one method that someone mentioned somewhere on this forum, I tried on smaller clothes to see what now fits, etc. A good portion of my size down clothing is starting to fit. Yay!
  6. I return to work next week going into my 6th week....here's my plan. I plan on taking a Starkist Tuna pouches, small bottle of mayo, homemade chili, boiled eggs, yogurt, protein shakes and/or protein bars, crystal light or something similar for my water, small container of fruit. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

    Could use some encouragement

Gas pain is the absolute worst! As others have stated movement helps considerly. I had Gas-X chewables with gas pain in my upper chest and shoulder. Drinking tea helps especially decaf mint tea, it felt soothing to my insides. My surgery was on 7/22 and by the end of week 2 I felt much much better as I'm sure you will too.

    Wearing Jeans

I have the same problem almost. The pain in my left side has finally stopped. But the fixed waist band of my low rise jeans are still a bit uncomfortable. I believe my tummy area is still swollen a bit and I'm attributing that for the tightness in the waistline as my jeans are loose in the hip/thigh area. I recenly purchased Danskin capris from Walmart with elastic waist and are super soft, I could leave in these things.

    Dizzy feeling

I'm so glad someone asked this question as I've been experiencing this over the past week. I'm 3weeks out from surgery. It can be quite disorienting at first. Happens when sitting awhile then standing, bending then standing upright also when getting up from bed.

    Feeling Cold

I noticed that I get colder now after surgery as well. I was sleeved on July 22 and the cold flashes started about two days out...whether I am at home, in the car or outside (in the heat of the summer). I thought it wouldn't start until I was a month or two out at least. I was wrong, so now I just leave a jacket in the car and throw near the chair. The sleeping fan is finally getting a break . My office at work is generally freezing so when I return, I probably will need to dress as if it were winter time to survive even with a heater.

    Thank you to my wife!

That is awesome...way to be supportive Mrs. Lopez! So I follow suit and give a shout out to my husband and son (16 years old). They both spent the night with me at the hospital and has taken really good care of me over the last two weeks.
  14. Second guessing is quite normal as this is a huge life changing event. I would worry if I hadn't second guessed my decision. I had to be on 24 hour Clear Liquids before surgery on July 22. I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 10:45 and in surgery by 12:45 pm. There was an issue in the operating room due to the high heat we were experiencing. I did not get into surgery until about 3pm. I was dying of thirst (or so it felt like). To top it off my menstrual cycle started. After surgery, when I awoke I was in my private room and had severe pain in my upper chest. It was gas, but it was intense, they gave me medicine through my IV and like others once I was able to burp, consistently, it helped alot as well as walking. I would say the worse parts for me were the intense dry mouth, thirst and the contrast dye to check for leaks the following day. That was the first thing I was allowed to drink after about 30 hours or so....can we say gross! Then I was able to drink Water, broth, etc. All in all, I would do it again and I do not regret my decision. At two weeks out I have lost 20lbs. and feel better than ok so far.

I cried at the supermarket today

Kate, did you peel the ginger root before blending?

    Kettle Bells

I have used Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred It with Weights (I think that's right). I use a Tonex KB which is plastic, not quite as heavy as the original KB, but quite affordable. The workout is doable and Jillian isn't all scary, but man was I sore after completing it. Also I did the work out pre-surgery. I'm just a over a week out, so I can't get back to it just yet. I purchased my KB from Marshall's or TJ Maxx.
  17. You look great. All of your hard work is paying off nicely.

    Losing too much too fast

I had surgery on July 22 as well. I have lost 17 pounds as of July 29. Pre-op is not worth discussing, as I gained instead of lost and was on a one day clear liquid diet the day prior to surgery for a loss of 7 pounds. Which I gained back through the IV fluids. Ive read of others losing as much in the first couple of weeks and don't believe it's anything to be concerned over however as others have stated if your not sure call your surgeon and ask.
  19. I had surgery on July 22 and I awoke to horrible gas pain in the location you mentioned, upper left chest and side. I felt as if a Mac truck had hit me. In the hospital they gave me pepcid complete via IV. Once I was home I took Gas X chewables a couple of times and I'm to take a pepcid complete chewable twice a day as prescribed by surgeon. The Gas X and pepcid complete have helped tremendously but the pain only lasted for a day or two. I really hope you feel better soon. Oh, mint tea as mentioned above is wonderful as well as peppermint tea.

    Tired!

I too like Mio, but I have not tried it since surgery. Other options I would suggest are flavored waters such as Fruit 2 O or Propel, they help immensely. I am on the last 2 days of full liquids and I don't think I would have made it drinking plan water only.

    My Gastric Sleeve Story

It really is hard to get your mindset ready for this change. I had surgery on July 22, and this week I'm on full liquids and next week is pureed foods then on to soft foods. I'm not hungry or having hunger pains, but my head is telling me that I want this or that because I'm thinking about it or see it on TV. The moment passes, but it is hard dealing with the differences between the mind and the stomach. The only thing I can say is we have to focus on the real reason we chose to do this...our health and a longer life cycle to see our children grow up!

    Protein Tracker

Hello all, I just came across two links for a Protein trackers that also lists the food with amount of protein. I thought others may find it useful. See links below. http://clifbar.ehcli...g/Trackerv2.pdf http://www.naturewellbeef.com/Resource_/PageResource/LiveWell/pdfs/ProteinTracker2.pdf

    Recliner or couch?

I've been home since Saturday evening and have stayed in my recliner. I had my drain tube removed today and was able to take a nap in bed with about 4 pillows. It took a minute for me to get comfortable, but I got a couple of hours of sleep. Good luck!
