  1. Sounds to me that you may be a bit tight. Something similar happened to me at my last fill last month. I got .5 cc and was able to drink Water fine all day until night time, after that nothing not even Water would stay in. Went to the doctor and took out .25 and was able to at least drink liquids. I'm glad you're doing better. I lost 5 lbs in 2 days cuz nothing would stay in. Now I'm scared to get a fill.

43 lbs lost (too lazy to put my ticker up)

  2. Thank you all for your replies. I went in on Friday and he took some liquid out the .5. Doing lots better, I can at least drink liquids and stay in. I almost had to go to the ER, I'm also diabetic so my levels were dropping but were able to stablize. I haven't really tried to eat solids yet, just little nibbles here and there and I definitely feel the restriction. On a good note, I lost 5 lbs in two days, but i know that that wasn't healthy.

  3. I went in for my 3rd fill yesterday, .5 cc. Well all day yesterday I was burping literally every 3 minutes, gross. Why does this happen, can I avoid this? Anyway what I'm concerned about is that I can only tolerate about 3 sips of Water before it just sits there. I tried to have some chicken broth twice. The first time I took about 3 spoonfuls and that was all I could tolerate, it didn't come up but felt it just there. The 2nd time, it did come up. I have never experienced this with my previos fills. I called my doc and have an appt tomorrow, but in the meanwhile I'd like some feedback. Also, can I damage my band from throwing up too much? Feedback anyone I'd really appreciate it.

  4. I have diabetes and was banded in August. I'm not losing as fast as I thought, but I was on tons of meds for diabetes and been able to get off of 2 meds and another med has been cut in 1/2. I'm hoping as I start losing some more I can start cutting more. I still take metformin and actos. My last A1C, about 1 month after surgery was 7.5 and I'm hoping this next one will be even lower.

  5. I am fairly new to this site and was going through to see if anyone had their surgery done with Dr. Headley. I have not had my surgery done, but will be soon with Dr. Headley in MacNeal. Did you have yours done already?? I would love to hear your experience.

I was looking through the forum and came across your post. I had surgery with Dr. Headley at MacNeal in August. I really like him, but I don't like his staff at all. I don't have anything bad to say about him as of yet. Did you have your surgery already? If so, how did it go for you?

  6. Hello...

I had my band placed in early August at 300#. Since the surgery date mostly post op diet I have gone down to 264. Had my first fill two weeks ago. 3cc in a 15cc band. Absolutely no change in fact I am more hungry now then before. I have discussed this with my Dr and all he seems to say is relax that it will happen. Today I found myself so hungry and disgusted that I may be a failure because I stepped on the scale which I don't do often and gained a few pounds up to 272. I read everyone stating it takes a few fills but you all know it is better to hear it for yourself on your own post as well as some encouraging words to get you through the day. I run and lift weights everyday which is great compared to the way I was before surgery. I am just looking for a little boost from someone that has gone through this with the 15cc band. My next fill is the 3rd week in November.

Hang in there! I know what you're feeling. I was banded on 8/25 and had my first fill 6 weeks later, don't know how much of a fill I got, forgot to ask but have not felt anything. My next appt isn't until 11/18. I am losing because of exercise and food choices. I was feeling so discouraged myself that I had to put it out here and received some encouraging words from others. Continue to do what you're doing, you're doing an awesome job!! We will be there soon enough. :)

  7. Relax...this is exactly why I am almost 3 yrs out from being banded and never had a fill. When I am excited or nervous or upset my band gets tight. I almost always get stuck when this happens so I try not to eat at these times. This probably will always be like this I am thinking so I work around it. Today I am having issues with gas from eating boiled eggs. Back to the gas x and living to learn how this band works. As long as you can eat and drink without throwing up, you will be okay. Just keep your eye on the band and don't panic with every new thing that comes up. I had so many stomach issues before banding that I have learned to not panic and try my home natural remedies before worrying myself to death. This is a life long journey, just take one day at a time and this forum is a life saver when you are looking for information when something comes up. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

I have to say CONGRATS to you! No fills, that is awesome!!!!!!!! Thanks for the advice, I'm a high tempered person so I have been trying to relax cuz that feeling isn't good. And I do agree with you this forum is a life saver. Now that I've been banded, I can truly say this forum has avoided so many calls to the dr's office. I love it! Thanks again!!!!

  8. Each person is different on what they feel (or think they feel). For instance my band feels really tight if I am tense about something.

    Thanks,

Yes, I've noticed that when I get angry or worked up, it hurts. I don't know if I'm using the right terminology. Maybe it is that tight feelling but it's some discomfort I'm feeling.

  9. hi i live in the south suburbs near indiana. i've noticed that my band feels tighter in the morning or when it rains..havent felt it when it's cold...guess we will be finding out together! LOL! where did you have your surgery?

    Jennifer

I'm about 7 weeks post op, any little thing I feel is freaking me out. And I still feel a bit of discomfort every now and then. I was banded on 8/25/11@ MacNeal Hospital.

  10. I knew going into this that there is pain in surgery especially when they sew something to your muscles, but wow! In the hospital I was on dilauded that really helped with the pain and I could go to the restroom by myself and not be in an extreme amount of pain. Now that I am home though, I am having trouble even walking. My husband has to help me get up, walk, sit back down... and everytime I am up for longer than just a couple of minutes I get really nauseous and lightheaded. When I breathe in deep or cough or anything with sudden movement like that I feel a searing pain in my side that takes about 20 min to settle down with an icepack on it.I did have my gallbladder out at the same time that they put in the band, but the pain that I feel in the right side is totally doable, the pain that is getting me down is the left side where the port is.) Is all of this normal? Am I doing something wrong? (Oh, and the hospital gave me a binder that does help some with the feeling that my guts are spilling out everytime I stand up, but it is totally not tight enough so I find that I have to hold myself together to manage to move)

That sounds normal to me, in my experience anyway. I can honestly say that I was in more pain than alot on this forum. You are explaing what I felt almost to the T. I did get some very good pain meds from my dr that helped. I am about 7 weeks out but I can honestly say the first 4 days were painful. Around day 5 is when I started feeling a bit better and I would say after the 1st week I was back to almost normal. I still couldn't bend but it does get better. I still feel a little bit of uncomfort every now and then. Hang in there! It does get better. :)

  11. SO....I finally hit onederland today! :) I also hit/surpassed the 50lb mark as well today, which was exciting. It has been very slow going for the past year +...but honestly, wouldn't trade it for the world! I am SO much happier 50lbs lighter....much more confident....and still going strong! It may take me longer than most....but the point is that the scale hasn't gone up in a year! I've NEVER been able to say that before....but now I can! I am SO happy and SO thankful for my band. Best.Decision.Ever! :)

Congratulations on your journey! Can't wait untll I reach the 50 lb mark. I can definitely relate to you as it seems my weight loss is going slower than I thought . But like you said, I'll take anything to nothing and as long as we're not gaining.

  12. I was just wondering after reading another post... How many people can actually see their port?

I am so glad I read this. I was getting worried and wondering if this was normal. I'm newly banded, about 7 weeks and as I've started to lose weight/inches I can feel what probably is the port. I new I couldn't feel it before and I thought something was going wrong. So to answer your question, I cannot see it but I can definitely feel it.

  13. after my second fill, it took a few weeks before i started to really feel the restriction. and i know the same goes for lots of people. so you might need to just give it a little time. or hey, go in for another fill, soon! that's why we have the thing... to choke us when we feel like gorging on bread. lol

You know, now that you mention it. I was having my lunch (chicken, broccoli, & cheese) and I had to throw 1/2 of it away (although I hate throwing food away, that "WAS" my problem, instead of throwing it away I would just eat it) I felt really full and had to go out for a walk. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the restriction kicks in. And on the other hand, I see my dr in 5 more weeks. He told me to see him in 6 weeks, I was hoping more for 4 weeks. But that's how my dr/ins works. Have a great weekend!

  14. same happens to me. it's always stop and go! but i've been working out a lot and can feel it in my clothes. the pounds are holding on for dear life, but if you keep it up they'll eventually fall away. good job on the .5 ! :)

Thank you. I have lost 18.5 lbs since having surgery. I have gone down one dress size, I just thought the fill would have given me an "extra" boost. I've read lots that it can take up to the 3rd fill to actually feel restriction. I just have to keep at it. I guess I was a bit spoiled by losing anywhere from 1-3 lbs weekly and then this .5, wasn't really expecting that at all. Thanks again, I knew my lap band friends would understand.

  15. We don't always lose every week and you actually did!!! It is so important to just keep watching what you eat and exercise. It will come off! Don't get discouraged! Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Thank you for the picker upper! I feel lots better after taking a long walk. You are correct we don't always lose I just thought I worked my butt off this week. Thanks again!

  16. 18 pounds would be awesome!! Sorry you are feeling discouraged. It's gotta be better than before. Congratulations!

Yes, I'll take 18 lbs over anything. I'm just being too hard on myself but as long as I'm not gaining. I had prepared myself that is was going to be a slow process.

Hmm, not sure why my ticker isn't working today.

  17. I am a Type 1 Diabetic of 25 years and am seriously considering lap-band procedure. I have been disciplined and have tried my best and still continue to gain. I have gained approximately 75 pounds over the past 10 years an cannot lose an ounce. Currently I am approximately 85 pounds overweight and feel I am entering a dangerous point and this is a life or death issue with me right now. It's no longer just a vanity issue. Anyone??

I am not Type I but am type II recently banded. I was banded 8/25/11 and have lost 18 lbs and 1 dress size but haven't lost how I expected but I am taking less meds and having more energy. I know I am still in the beginning phase and although I feel a bit discouraged today, I do not regret my decision of have this surgery

  18. I was banded on 8/25/11 and had my first fill last Friday 10/7/11. I weigh myself every Friday (same scale and time) and I thought for sure I'd lose a few pounds (my goal is 1-2) a week and I don't have much weight loss this week. (.5 lbs) I haven't felt the restriction, I still can eat whatever I've been losing because of eating healthier and exercising. This week, I did about the same with food and have upped my exercise to 20 min/1 mile on my treadmill on a 2.0 incline and added in 5 lb weights . I know I need to just keep on doing what I'm doing and believe in myself. I just need to vent with people that can understand. :(
