  1. Taking pictures is important! I bought a dress just for the heck of it, and it actually looks nice. I compared it to my August Photo and couldn't believe the progress! I mean, i saw the 26 pound difference on the scale, but the pictures made me realize that it's actually moving along. Good luck!

  2. I am so sorry to hear that! I hope everything turns out well for you. I had one incision get hot and get a puss filled bump. After 2 days it popped, it was also a puss and blood combo. It might have been related to my port because it was on that side and it happened after my port area got red and swollen. I never sought direct care for it though. I went to the surgeon 2 dys after that and the surgeon said my incisions were fine.

  3. screw the chart... im sorry, but i am not going to go from a 299 porker to a 135 stick. That is not ideal for me. I am one who does not physically mind being big (being Puerto Rican and having a lot of the weight in my lower portion), but i'm getting the lapband because this weight has begun to take a toll on my health. I have seen people who lose too much weight and look unhealthy.. almost sickly. My goal is 170. I know what i look like and feel like at that weight. It's good to make these goals, but to also keep in mind that you can MODIFY them! Good luck to everyone!

  4. Good luck hun, I go in on the 15th... it is nerve wrecking!!!

Hello! I will be getting banded in 2 days! I am so excited, but also a little nervous. I suppose this is all normal :) I will just be so happy to have it all behind me! This pre-op liquid diet has been rough. I figure if I can get through this.....I can get through anything! Good luck to everyone else that is having surgery soon! It will be a great thing!

  5. I see, that I can understand. There's some people that are a year or so out and they complain that they can't go out with their families because they can't resist temptation. some rant about it not being fair for their family to do things that they can't participate. I understand wanting your family to be aware of your boundaries, but they are entitled to do things they want. My little cousin lost 100+ pounds with just a change of diet and excercise. He lost all of that weight while still being around the family on special occasions. sorry, i took it in a slight different direction. It's just a pet peeve i've developed.

Well I'm on the liquid diet I'm only about 2 weeks out.

  6. do not deprive yourself! You can always make adjustments to the meals when you are with others. sorry, but it really grinds my gears when people say that they can't enjoy the time with their families over food!

  7. Sooo... as I am waiting for my surgery approval I realized that I could very well end up being allergic to the band. I say this because my body is sensitive to EVERYTHING! How do I know if im allergic to the material that the band is made of? Has anyone shared this concern? is there a difference in the Lapband or Realize band just incase I end up being allergic to the Lapband? Blah... freaking out. my surgery status says "pended".

  8. My surgeon is Dr. Mitchel Roslin. He's at the Lenox Hill Hospital Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. Lenox Hill is affiliated with North Shore University. I know two people who have had their surgeries done there. After speaking to them and doing a lot of research, i decided this is the place for me. The office is nice and comfortable. You get seen on time. The nutritionist has a no nonsense attitude. If you're too emotional, you might have a hard time. I figure that she see's a lot of people who aren't ready and think that this is a game. MY experience with Dr. Roslin was a good one. He asked me questions and answered mine. Only problem i found was that he advised me to do the SLEEVE, and I refuse to do it. I'm not comfortable with it. I'm overall happy. ;) There is a website, NYCBariatrics.com. Good luck!

  9. Don't worry about what other people have to say. We all want support, but we have to realize that not eveyone will be supportive. It starts with us. Don't let anyone fill your head with doubts, it is your body and this is your decision. Everyone i've told so far ( mom, boyfriend, bestfriend, and 2 aunts) have been supportive. My moms first reaction when i was just contemplating the idea was horrid. She was more afraid though. She got me to join the YMCA... i'm paying 40 bucks a months for nothing... for the last 6 months. I've gone on and off but after awhile i made the decision to attend a seminar and get all of the pre-liminary stuff done. I told her i've started the process and she's a little better now. she even offered to go to the hospital and my appointments with me and everything... I think she's just worried about something happening to me. I'm not planning on telling more people about it. I have a channel on Youtube and if someone happens to come across it, then so be it. I don't care who knows, I just don't care to hear people trying to discourage me from what I WANT DO! Go ahead girl.... you need to do your own thing and make this work for you! ^_^

  10. Hello everyone... I have HIP PRIME *** in NYC. Is there anyone else in NYC with HIP or HIP Prime? If so, can you help me with some info? I'm waiting for my surgeon to submit the request. How long did it take you? What exam are needed once you're approved? I.E sleep apnea, stress test? Any info will help... My surgeon is Mitchell Roslin @ Lenox Hill Hospital.

  11. yea, i think my pcp's office manager was getting irked by me. but, we've been communicating via email and he seems more calm via emails. LOL... could you tell me what test i have to get done? I'm at work and have been doing all this research... it would definately help! Thanks!

Hahah i too have HIP and the only problems i have run into is my PCP office manger !! I KNOW she is so sick and tired of me calling for referrals :P I will say that altho they insurance hasnt really been a pain these test that I have to get done ... are becoming a bit of a nightmare to schedule.

The Gastronoligist doesnt have a open appt until Dec 2011 !! If anything try to get all your testing done early !!! You will be way ahead of the game !

  12. Hey there, I'm also in NYC and have HIP Prime. So far, I am waiting for my approval. So far i've been given the OK from HIP for the consult and to get all of my blood work and exams done. HIP requires us to get a paper filled out for 6 months from the doctor showing we've been trying to lose weight within the last 2 years or a letter of reconmendation from our Primary care physician. They also require a TSH (thyroid blood exam) and an Upper G.I exam (basically a test of your chest to take xrays of your intestines). There hasn't been much jumping or screaming during the process so far... just yelling at my doctor's office manager. LOL...
