  1. A little about me.

My name is Ronda, I'm 28 and I have my surgery date on Oct 31st. I'm excited, scared, nervous but ready.

I have 3 kids and have been married for 7 1/2 years. My husband is in the Marine Corp so he will be deploying soon after my surgery but will be coming back home to a new wifelaugh.gif

I'm excited to go through this process with you all.

  3. Hello everyone. My surgery date is October 31st which is Halloween, anyways I have three girls ages 6, 5, 1. Last night my oldest kids were saying how excited they were to dress up for Halloween and asked what I wanted to be on that day. Well I told them mommy won't be able to go because she has to get her tummy fixed at the hospital. They hugged me and said it's not going to be the same without me and to wait until after Halloweensad.gif

They then asked me what's wrong with my tummy and started to cry so I had to explain that I'm doing it so I can be the best mommy for them and be healthy so I can run around and play with them without getting tired really fast. My 5 year old then said "are they going to make you fly and jump really high too laugh.gif and she was a tad bit disappointed when I told her no.

I feel really bad for missing out.

  4. Well my PCM put in a referral in for me on Monday (YAY) I called yesterday and they said I need to wait for a phone call to schedule a appointment with the bariatric nurse. Im so excited to get this whole process started I hate playing the waiting game. I was also told that the whole process start to finish could take around 6 months but some people get it done faster than 6 months. Did all the necessary labs, evals and paper work take that long for anyone?

  5. I would still pursue it. Sounds like the doc that you spoke with doesn't know about the surgeries and is trying to scare you out of it. You've done research so you know the risks. Sure, there is a risk of death - but it happens very rarely. There's also a risk of getting hit by a vehicle and dying from that - but that doesn't prevent you from walking down the street or driving does it?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the military policies on this, but I would really get to another doctor instead of the one you spoke to.

Thanks for replying. I'm going to continue to pursue getting vsg done hopefully I can get good news soon.

  6. Hello everyone,

I'm not sure where to post this but here goes.. a little about myself first. I'm 28 years old and I weigh 251 pounds (cries) I'm 5'3 by the way. My husband is active duty Marines so I have tricare insurance.

I wanted to schedule an appointment with my PCM but she was not available so I was set up with an appointment with someone else. After researching lap band and VSG and decided I wanted to go with VSG. After months of informing myself I decided to talk the PCM about it today and she immediately shut me down. She said "it's serious surgery and people die from it",I'm giving you a referral to the nutritionist"

At this point I no longer know what to do. Should I schedule an appointment again? How should I approach the topic? From what I gathered Tricare will pay for the VSG if it is done on a MTF, is this correct? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
