  1. Write it all down in My FItness Pal or Fat Secrets (Calorie Counter). My husband tells me that I am obsessive about it. As soon as I get in the car after we go out to eat, then I pull out my Droid and put the information in. I do it everytime I have a snack to. Also, maybe just getting out and exercising a little more. I am sure you have an exercise routine, so try stepping it up to keep those grazing times from coming around as often. I am a grazer, too, so I can identify with your problem, I try to graze on a peach, plums, or carrots, and those aren't a problem, and carrots work your jaws because you really have to chew them to avoid problems. Best of luck. Keep us all posted.
  2. The insurance companies at work - but doing their job. I am sorry that you have to wait three months - but I'll bet you get healthier during that time. We're all her with you, and know you'll be fine.

  3. I agree - the best thing for pain is walking. Sometimes I had to walk with ;)my arms up - a pretty funny sight - so I reserved that move for the house. But walk, walk, walk. The gas will rise and dissapate. It may take about two weeks for it all to be gone, but it decreases a lot daily - so have patience. I took drugs only one day, because I have a tendency to throw up when I take them - not a good thing. Anyway. BNest of luck to you, remember, it might be painful right now, but there is an end to it. Any your journey is going to be fantastic!

    Banded this morning Sept. 1

Best of luck to you! I think we had the same doctor band us. I am doing well, and I know you will, too. Just follow the rules and enjoy the journey.
  5. I know you are thrilled with your progress. You're right; plateaus are in the picture, but stay active. Congratulations!

    what's happening

I agree with you, Newbie. I haven't had a fill yet - and it has been three months since I was first banded. If I eat chicken, I have to put something with it - like tomatoes so that it does not get hung. Slime is no good I'm not really a red meat eater, so I get my protein through protein drinks, tuna (also have to make it less dry), or other kinds of fish, and chicken.
  7. Do some walking, too, if you feel like it. My husband and I would go to the mall and I would walk - slowly at first, but I got better. It will help with the gas pains. Best of luck. Keep me posted.

  8. Oh, Goldenvic. From what you wrote, you could be my little sister. Eat out of boredon, anxiety, no time to eat, and then eat too much. I'm excited for you. Keep me posted.

  9. Congratulations on your surgery. I hope it all went well. Very exciting journey ahead '-)

  10. I ended up self pay, I couldn't wait. What is your status now?

  11. Try to keep me straight, please ;-)

    Pasta

I just ate a cup of pasta with a tuna/tomato sauce. It was SO very good. The pasta mixture was in the freezer, and I had not eaten a good lunch. SOOO, I defrosted it and ate it. I have no idea how to put this information in my calorie counter and I am ashamed of myself for eating it. I have not had pasta since banding. I am disgusted with myself! What do I need to do to get back on the wagon.

    Pasta

I have been very careful not to eat Pasta, and I slipped. You are probably right, but I am so afraid that I will do something to sabotage myself and gain weight back. I have been on too many diets, too many times, and always gained the weight back, and more. Thank you so much, for setting me straight. I appreciate your words. Edie

    Frustrated & a little anxious

I agree with everyone that has written. I was very upset to begin with, because even though I was doing everything I thought I was supposed to, I did not feel that I was losing. FIrst - write down everything you eat. I use Fat Secrets, but a lot of folks use My Fitness Pal. I know that Fat Secrets is smartphone compatable, I don't know about My FIttness Pal. It take so little time to punch it in. ALSO, keep track of all of your exercise - again, both programs allow you to do that. Exercise is anything but resting or sleeping - so look them up in your program and record the calories. The math says, that if you're expending more calories than you take in, blah, blah, blah. BUT, it is fickled; I know sometimes I will lose two pounds in a week, others, I won't lose a thing. AND I AM DOING THE SAME THING! So, Jensjourney, please keep the faith. If you're not exercising - do something - like Water aerobics or water walking (my personal favorites). They are easy on the joints. You have a huge support system in the banders, so we are with you, and want to know how you're doing.

When do people notice the weight loss?

WOW! Congratulations on your progress. Keep it up. I don't hear it from many - really only from two people that did not know I was having the surgury. I've lost about half the weight I need to. Maybe folks don't focus on our bodies as much as we do. Maybe they don't have time to notice - especially in a work environment. I agree, I am not looking for complements (they make me uncomfortable anyway), but there has to be some kind of acknowledgement - if indeed they notice. To be fair - I changed my hairstyle/and some color change about the same time I started losing, so maybe they can't figure out what is going on with me - they just know that something is. It's like my husband. He grew a beard and stopped with the insane comb-over at the same time. Folks couldn't figure it out. I didn't do it for anyone but me anyway, I just want to be healthy

    Why are YOU Fat?

Great thread. I wish I knew the truth, but I have my suspicions. I eat when I am anxious, I know that. I also have the genes in my body to help me get heavier. I am not a huge exerciser, but am loving Water aerobics. Most of my female cousins are constantly on a diet, but do much better than I. My husband of 40 years is always talking about weight, although he is a great size. When we first got married, I remember him saying that he would NOT be married to a fat lady - well, guess what - he is. My sister was tiny, as is my mom. My dad was diabetic - but not a large man. Nutritionist told me that I do not eat a great deal - even before my lapband, and the psychologist told me that my weight issue is in my head and that I am depressed. I don't know what to believe. My weakness is bread and butter with something sweet on it - jam, jelly, sugar, etc. CARBS!!! The bread and butter is something I have avoided since my surgery. I feel like if I eat it once, I will be like an alcholic and won't stop, I am terrified that I will regain my weight once I have reached my goal. Folks say that you can. What can I do to keep this from happening? Please give advice.
