  1. I didn't realize this at all, but apparently it isn't a good idea to get a fill before flying. Did you know this? I read on a post about people's bands tightening up once in the air and some people vomited for days after. Some people even slightly unfill before flying so they don't end up getting sick. I had no idea. My family is going to disneyworld in a few weeks and I scheduled a fill for the day before we leave. Guess I'll be cancelling that appointment!!!

    Your weigh Ins

I thought I'd start a topic where people can share their weight history from pre-surgery up to today if you want. A lot of people are asking how quickly us bandsters have lost, etc. I lose very slow. So, here it goes... Pre surgery 222 Day of surgery 206.5 1 week 203.5 2 weeks 203.5 3 weeks 203.5 (cussing the scale at this point) 4 weeks 202 5 weeks 201 6 weeks 199 7 weeks 197 8 weeks 195 9 weeks 192

I have BCBS also, and didn't need a primary care physicians referral. I would call the surgeons office and ask if you need a referral from your primary care. You never know, they may say they dont~ good luck!

    Lap Band - your thoughts

Just like anything, this is a tool. You don't understand the whole concept of it being a "tool" until you get banded. A lot of people go in to the surgery thinking the band is going to solve all their problems. This is DEFINITELY not the case. It takes hard work and extreme dedication. I'm not saying the other patients didn't have that, but I truly believe the band works if you are willing to do "the work". And its hard. Its a mind struggle a lot of the time and its frustrating at times. Dedication is the key!

    How often do you weigh?

Me too!! Every day after I get up and go to the bathroom. lol. I, also, record on Thursdays!
  7. Oh no, girly, you are not alone! I didn't feel much different after surgery, just like you. Try not to freak, as when you start getting fills this will get better . You are not a failure, I think its great you haven't gained since surgery. Give yourself a break. Wait til you get to your green zone, then you will start seeing results. I'm right there with you, can eat anything I want, only smaller portions. And I HATE it. But, it is what it is. And I try to make the right decisions so that I can lose. I have only lost 8 lbs since surgery 2 months ago, so I know how you feel. Hang in there. It will get easier, just do THE BEST you can to eat right and make sure you're feeding body hunger and not head hunger.
  8. I'd say call your doc, have them check your TSH again and make sure you are on enough synthroid. Yes, the periods and thyroid problems can go hand in hang. Speakin from experience!
  9. I agree with slm. It is a shame . Its not like we're monsters or something! But yes, same here. MEN are actually looking at me different. holy cow, didn't think thatd ever happen!
  10. Its called "weightloss surgery insurance secrets". by craig and leslie thompson
  11. I hope I've gotten the info to everyone who needs it! I liked it because it has forms and stuff in it so you can track who you talked to at the insurance company, all the diets you've tried, etc. It makes a nice little workbook!

    I need help!

OR you could go out and buy a new shirt/pants, etc. You definitely have to be down a size or two, right?? We are so proud of you. Holy cow 50 lbs!!!!! I'd LOVE to be at that amount of weight loss ....W T G !!!! You need to give yourself a pat on the back, cause you DESERVE IT!! All the hard work you are doing is paying off. Keep it up! ~hugs~

    1st fill!!!

LOL, we are completely use to people passing out, so don't worry about that! It doesn't matter how big or small the needle is, just the idea of it some people can't stand. But the fact that they had to dig around a little. ouch! I'm sure I'd be sweating too! I felt the same you did, fill wasn't too bad at all. Cracking up at karma. I can just picture you going into the dr's office and saying "PLEASE put this port above my belly button cause I can't stand to be tickled.......lmao~!!!!
  14. Because there are so many different pre and post op diets, it really isn't fair to judge anyone on here. But, I too, slipped up and ate a deviled egg 3 days after surgery because I was so hungry. Try to stay on track the best you can. We are all human. For anyone to say they have never ever cheated is silly . Keep up the good work. We're all winners here!

    I Blew It

Just like everyone else said, I'm proud of you too!! And you definitely know how to lose the weight, girl. I do know it gets frustrating when you've seen the lower number on the scale and just want it to come back. Hang in there, you can do this. You DESERVED all that fun you had for your wedding, honeymoon, camping, etc. Now you can get back on track like you did for so long! Congrats!!!!

    Six months supervised diet

Unfortunately the final weigh in will prompt the doctor/dietician to give the documentation of a completed diet and THEN the surgery will be scheduled. The insurance usually has to submit approval before they will schedule it. I'm so proud of you, hang in there! You will be VERY happy you had to go through this, although it may feel like torture now. This is the right way to do it and you are given ample time to prepare yourself for this life changing event. Hang in there, you're over half way there!!!!

    PCOS

Just wondering if anyone has PCOS and if it got better after dropping a lot of weight. Also, did it help your infertility and/or reduction in excess hair!?!
  18. it helped me out quite a bit. plus I got approved on the first attempt. just wanted to offer support to those who need it. I won't lie, I probably did get jipped out of money, but it sounded good, and it did help.
  19. Yes, you should get a surgery date tomorrow. Make sure to bring your list of questions. And if you have a date or week in mind, tell them! You've been approved so there really isn't anything holding you back. They do check labs to make sure there isn't anything going on that would affect the surgery. Good luck, keep us posted!
  20. My gas pain lasted 2.5 weeks after surgery. Gas-x will help! It was my shoulder/neck that hurt the most. Take some tylenol to help with the pain and hang in there. You should be on the downward slope of the pain!
  21. Prayers are being said for you!! Just remember during the tough times how hard you have worked and that there IS an end in sight. Focus on the goal, but you need to heal first. This isn't a setback, just another step in your weight loss journey. Good luck, I know you can do it!!
  22. Nope, I jumped on the scale and almost broke it lmfao. That cracked me up!!

    Too many Lap Band fills?

I agree. Your surgeon is there to provide a service to you, both before and after surgery. Its their job to make sure that you are reaping the benefits of the lapband. I would say most people who have had fills have gone in multiple times until they've gotten it just right. Even then you may need another adjustment a little while later. Its a process, not a quick fix. I'd say get in there and tell them its not right! Eating too much can also be a sign that you aren't full enough.
  24. This is a good post! Thanks for the helpful question!
