Have you ever heard of this???

I would definitely be looking at some other explanations. Using a demo band (one that is not implanted), filling it to capacity only leaves a very small passageway, and that's without stomach tissue inside!! I find it hard to believe that the band is positioned properly and is really inflated with the max amount of fill. My first fill my doc closed me totally off as a demonstration to an onlooker, and no way was it filled to the max. I felt like an elephant was on my chest, and I could barely breathe. I have heard of people needing to be filled more than the recommended max, but I still have a hard time envisioning how small that opening must be....

    I signed up for ediets.

I like eDiets set-up, as well. I was a member for a couple months a few years back (before I stopped my dieting madness), but was just too overwhelmed with shopping lists etc. to get a lot out of the program. Congrats and good luck!

    Be Prepared!

My desk is like being in a small grocery store... :rolleyes In my cube overhead shelf/drawers I keep a box of Cereal, several cans of veggies and tuna, old fashioned oatmeal, Peanut Butter, honey, tea, a hand mixer, Protein powder, Fiber, vinegar, olive oil, spices, soy milk, apples... In the fridge at work I have lettuce, celery, tomatos and carrots. Right now in the work freezer I have unsweetened blueberries and blackberries. I try to cook chicken breasts or other things at home in advance, but on the days I forgot to bring it, or didn't have a chance to do it, I have plenty of stuff to choose from here at work. Very occasionally I will still choose to go out and eat something less nutritious, but it helps that my budget doesn't really accommodate too much of that. However, without my fallback stashes, I'm sure I'd be eating out at least 1-2 times a week, instead of once every couple of months. :hungry:
  4. Um... I think I was there 2 nights too. I'll have to double-check with my sis - she was there with me. But my recovery was much quicker than after my banding - I drove us home, and was back to my old routine virtually instantly.

    Worried about Slippage

Hmmm.... Not sure why that didn't make it onto the "DON'T DO THIS!!!!!" list. I'll have to do some more research...

    Worried about Slippage

From an earlier post: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12148 Common symptoms of slippage: 1. Loss of restriction 2. Gain in restriction 3. Complete obstruction 4. Reflux 5. Onset of frequent vomiting 6. Stomach pain Diagnostic procedures: Slippage should be visible through a barium swallow under fluroscopy. Treatment: Slippage is generally first treated with a complete unfill, unless the slippage is considered an emergency (complete obstruction). After a week or two, if the slip doesn't correct itself, surgical intervention is required. Either the band is repositioned or replaced. Causes: Slippage: #1 cause of slippage: vomiting/PBing 2. Surgical error. Speculation: 3. Overeating/pouch packing

    Sex

Well... okay... Sigh... *twists toe in dirt*
  12. I STILL have some problems eating potatos. For me, potatos were NOT a band friendly food. Apparently they're not a post-band friendly food either. lol Both of you are too tight.

    Erosion, The Real Facts

Nykee, you're right. I think the rest of that thought was that for people to succeed they will eventually have to change their way of thinking to the long term. That's what I meant, anyway. And you're right to remind us that there are no guarantees regardless, for success or failure. There is just likelihood, and odds. :hugs:

    Erosion Myths?what Have You Heard?

I'm not sure sneaking up on restriction makes a difference in erosion - non-adjustable bands erode as well. NEWBIES - The title of this thread is erosion MYTHS. I'm not sure this was such a good idea, since real cautions are now being mixed in with fake cautions. NSAIDS (aspirin) should be avoided. Most docs allow coffee/alcohol. The bottom line is no one knows for sure. Do a search on erosion and find other threads whose sole purpose is to post factual/common practice information.

This Is A Wake Up Call!

Nykee  - Have you ever read the book "Potatos not Prozac"? I'm not finished reading it yet, but the nurse who wrote it equates sugar sensitivity to alcoholism (her specialty was working with alcoholics and stumbled on the connection to sugar sensitivity by accident). I thought it was very interesting, and from reading your past eating habits and current food logs I wouldn't be surprised if you have sugar sensitivity in a big way. (((hugs)))

    Erosion Myths?what Have You Heard?

I'm not sure what follow-up has to do with erosion rates. I had good follow-up, Michelle had good follow-up. I don't know about the others, but regardless, there is no way for anyone to know that the erosion has started, and there was nothing done at my follow-ups that had anything to do with avoiding that, as far as I know. Yes, all my fills were done under fluoro, but fluoro didn't show my erosion. My last fill was in October 2003, and my June 2004 endoscopy showed my 40% erosion.

    Still Hurting bad

It sounds as though you are doing waaaay too much. But if you have any specific pains, particularly around where you think the band is, be persistant with following-up with your doc. I have a sedentary job and went back to work the 4th day after surgery, and went home each day feeling like I'd been run over by a truck. Once I got home I did NOTHING but lay on the couch. On the 5th day back to work I left after an hour - I just couldn't take it anymore. The next week was better, but If I wasn't working I was doing NOTHING but laying on the couch for a good 2-3 weeks. Make all those kids take care of you!!! Take it easy!!
