  1. I agree with the suggestions of getting it done, documenting it somewhere and when people start to notice and ask questions, then make an announcement, and forward people to the site where you have documented so far. This way any naysayers will be shut down prior to surgery, and once you have lost enough to notice, people will be less likely to outright be negative. In the process, being in the public eye, you will inspire others who are perhaps on the fence about losing the extra pounds through surgery or dieting. Whatever you choose, make the best choice for yourself and your family. Also, congrats on deciding to make a choice that will only improve your life!

My 3 Month Videos & Fashion Show

I bet you had so much fun shopping. I really liked your last stripey outfit with the black earrings. They both look really good on you, you are very pretty and they accentuate it.

    NSV: new clothes!

I don't think it is bragging at all, you are having some really good feeling accomplishments, nothing wrong with telling people about them. And Jane_J you crack me up!

    Bag it......

What a great idea. Awesome job on your weight loss.
  5. You have made "wrestling" so much more interesting! thanks for the chuckle, and awesome job on your goal!

    4 Months Post Op

Really something to be proud of. Your list of positives are things that people that are not overweight take for granted, it is so nice that you can start taking them for granted as well! Good job.

    1 Month Out

Nice job to both of you! I can already see the potential for having those Fair moments myself. My partner got a scoop of ice cream, and I had no desire for some. We started laughing because I told her this was a "virgin" moment for us. In the past I would have wanted my own, or if I was dieting would have had a mini temper tantrum that I could not have it. Yesterday my response was a "meh looks ok, but nothing special". You guys are an inspiration, keep it up, and congrats on the losses.

    I went through with it...

Congrats! I was boohooing that I left the hospital 1lb more than when I went in, I don't feel so bad now /wink. 10lbs of water weight from the IV and laying around will come off pretty fast. Again congrats, and welcome to this side of the fence.

    eek! Tomorrow!

You will do great. I just had mine done there on 8/20 and the closer we got to San Diego the more my mind started playing out all those same scenarios that you listed. I think it is just natural. I ended up doing great and am recovering much faster than I expected. The staff is super nice (especially Sergio) and the Doctors are very involved in making sure you do well, and feel as little pain as possible while there. I am confident you will be fine. Make sure to get up and walk about as soon as you can and a few times a day. It will make a difference in your recovery. I would tell you good luck but you will not need it. :tongue_smilie:
  10. :tongue_smilie: Way to go!! What a great accomplishment. I bet you are feeling awesome. Isn't it nice to be able to get off medication for problems you used to have, and to impress your doctor? I am so happy for you.

    A little about me

Good Job Kris! I was sleeved just a few days before you, so we are on a similar time track here. Keep us informed of whats happening with you and again congrats!
  12. Awsome job Jamey. It always amazes me that so many people look like a totally different person after some weight loss. You are looking great, and more importantly you look happy. Good work. I also agree about these boards. Pre-op they helped me out so much with information and alleviating fears, and although I am only 8 days post op, they are still helping me out with information, and encouragement when I read them. The people here are the best.
  13. Hurray! on weighing in less than the goal you set for yourself! Great job. It must also feel really good to have to buy size 18 because your other clothes are just to big. I envisioned you sneaking around Walmart with your own personal mission impossible theme music and got a nice laugh, thank you :confused1:
  14. Wow what a horrible lot of things you had to go through. I am glad it is getting better for you now. As far as hair loss, I don't think I have seen anyone mention Biotin yet. It is very helpful for hair and nail growth for most people. Since you seem to be deep into the loss right now I am not sure how much it will help but it might slow whats going on and try and turn it around. It is worth a try at least. Good luck to you and grats on the 65 lbs lost so far!
  15. Hello! Such a nice way to wake up, with a friend request sitting in my inbox! :) Thank you and thank you for your message of encouragement, it really helps.

    where are the heavyweights?

I am 5'8 (perhaps a teense under) and at my highest I was 508 pounds. I had surgery on 8/20/10 and was 479 the morning of surgery. I am currently 464. Right now it seems like a pipe dream to think of being 170lbs, but that is my eventual goal. For now I am setting smaller goals to reach and eventually by hitting those smaller ones I will get to the final one. I think I was a normal weight the day I was born, the day after is another story though. I have always been overweight. I have not been under 310 pounds since I was 20 (now 40). At 14 I was 240lbs, so I just can't even imagine what 170 would be like, or 270 for that matter, but it will be fun finding out.

    questions 3 days post op

I am 7 days post op and prior to surgery I could drink a clear isopure no problem, the taste was ok, after surgery I can't stand them and I have like 30 in my pantry. They seem to coat my mouth and tongue, I have given up on them, Tomorrow I am going to try a non clear protein shake, hopefully I can take that down better. I have read of others that have been constipated, but I am on the same side of the fence as you lunarose, I imagine once we start in on something other then liquids things will turn around.

Booked for 8/28 with Dr Aceves

I am going to be there 8/20 so I will miss all of you guys, so far it sounds like a slow time for me, unless all the people going don't peruse these forums :svengo: I was also asked to be off wellbutrin for at least 4 days prior to surgery. I have been slowly weaning myself off of it to avoid any problems with a sudden stop. I plan on asking when I can start back on it, since I do much better with it then without it. I am hoping at some point to stop it entirely...ie hoping my depression is more related to my body and weight rather then a genetic situation that will never go away. Best wishes to all of you that will be there a week after me.
  19. With the surgeon that is...I don't think my spouse would approve of me having any other kind of date. :w00t: August 20th Dr Aceves. I have the trip mostly all planned and set. Hotel before my flight out, and on my return all booked. Airline tickets purchased. That was a hard one, what is so difficult for the reservationist to understand about "I AM FAT NEED MULTIPLE SEATS" yeesh, still nervous about getting to the airport and being told they never booked my seats for myself (2) and spouse (1) together. Stopping by parents for two days prior to flight, and they have been very supportive, I had expected the words Mexico and surgery to scare them, but my mother was all for it, and is trying to push cash and goods onto me like it was Christmas I had a dream last night that I had surgery, and my room was the hallway with tons of other surgery patients all sitting in wheelchairs. I tried to stand up and started yelling I was going to fall over and was scared I would break open. Then I took some Water to help my dry mouth, meant to spit it out and swallowed a swig, then my stomach burst open. Do you think I might be nervous? Dreams are odd! Excited and scared all at once. I will be so glad when it is done and I am back in my own home.
  20. I am in the process of getting a sleeve set up. I would have to fly to Mexico. I am 470lbs and I am seriously scared of flying. Not because of the plane, but because of my size vs the size of the plane inside. I will purchase 3 seats (2 for me 1 for spouse) all in a row. I have already spoken to airline customer service and gotten seat dimensions, belt extender info, and how to board prior to everyone else. None of that seems very reassuring to me though. I have read some of the airline industry forums and one of the biggest peeves is fat people. Since my spouse and I are getting three seats together, no one else should be inconvenienced, but you know how it can go sometimes. Is there anyone say 350+ that has gotten this done in mexico and had to fly there? How was your experience? Was the flight less/more stressful then you thought it would be? Any tips or helpful hints? Thanks in advance

    470 lbs Flight Question

Hey all, thank you for all the responses! I didn't expect it. I very much appreciate the information provided as well as the encouragement. I know that 470 is an insane amount, but I am actually pretty active in spite of it, I go to school and walk all over campus, just slower than most everyone else. I can't wait to get this done and start getting healthier, and yes...I am more worried about the flight then the slice and dice of my insides...pretty funny. Thanks again all, Probably go back to lurking, unless some other weird question pops up.
